I have played this piece for over 15 years as my daily warmup before going into other stuff. Since the melody is basically carried by the pinky of right hand, and the middle voice is executed by the rest of 4 fingers of the same hand, it's a great warm-up piece for right hand finger independence. I do like how Horowitz, Zimerman, Lupu, etc voiced this piece to give it an ethereal touch from heaven -- tenderness of the deepest love declaration possible. But Olga's playing is also refreshing, adding much vitality and youthfulness to what possibly Schubert would have liked but was perhaps not aware of. Schubert died in 1828 at age 31, as a star that never ceases to shine. He lives on in millions' hearts.
Dear Olga, I am very happy to listen to your excellent Interpretation! How are you getting along these days? I wish you sencerely your further success as Pianist!!
This entire piece was the intro to a cassette tape of a children's story called the enchanted horse that I had when I was little. I was just as enchanted by the music as I was the story, and I've been searching for the name of it for years. I finally found it, and it's even more wonderful than I remember. Thank you ❤
I’ve played it when I was 15, I forgot the name but could forget the music, the feeling. So I’ve been searching for the name for years too:) It almost makes me cry to write this:)
This Impromptu is one of the most beautiful pieces of piano music ever written. Listening to such a beautiful interpretation so full of sentiment is just wonderful. It seems as if her fingers were just floating over the keyboard, barely touching it.
My great-grandmother passed away a day before my mother discovered that she was pregnant. Life and death is the natural order of things, and as long as the memory of your wife lives, so will her spirit
Here we are into 2014 and I always return to this most beautiful work, which is played to perfection by the best. No one has ever reached into my emotions like Olga when she plays this. Schubert is very proud somewhere in the great somewhere.
It is definitely not too fast. It is very well played !! Horowitz made it his own interpretation which is outstanding but on it's own... Olga plays it the right way. Most excellent.
breathtaking. I can't believe so many people feel compelled to criticize and express their childish / jealous egos for all to see. it only reveals that you lack modesty and haven't the capacity to appreciate a genuine expression of beauty from another soul
The majority of the comments here are actually extremely positive, which is what I would expect. I think it's a beautiful interpretation and I find it odd that two of the top comments are focussed on putting down the critics when there really aren't that many. Not everyone would agree with me, but I really I really wish people wouldn't lash out at critics (unless they are incredibly rude or insulting). For starters, when the top comments are focussed on highlighting the naysayers, it gives the impression that the overall reception of this performance was a negative one, which is far from true. Also, music and art are extremely subjective and how we respond to it is very personal. In other words, if someone dislikes the work of a very talented and popular artist, singer, or musician or dancer, it doesn't automatically make that person a jealous hater with low self-esteem. We can't presume to know anything about that person. I'm sure we've all criticized You tube videos that others find amazing.
This is my favourite impromptu of schubert and one of the most beloved piano pieces in my life. The first time, i heard this piece, i was infected. This interpretation is nearest to the one, that exists in my mind. Very inspiring and absolutely beautiful. Now i'm a fan of Mrs. Jegunova. Thank's a lot!
I used to play this myself (long ago, and nowhere near this level) and I always imagined Schubert composing this as he was walking along a small stream. That's exactly what I hear in this performance: the small stream gently rolling along ... so, thank you for that!
This masterpiece is one of my favorite classic piano creation, when I play or hear it, it gives me an emotional feeling of life power, something divine which we cannot get it, sublime with a combination of harmonic arpeggios and dissonance (chromatic transitions), it feels both sadness and hopefulness like Schubert wanted to convey the soundtrack of his life in one piece...
My best friend passed away two nights ago and I have turned to your beautiful music to comfort the terrible loneliness and hurt that follows the finality of it all. You comfort me in ways I never thought possible. God bless you, Olga.
Horowitz takes the no.3 too slowly for my likingm though he gets his own way finally by the sheer magic of his touch, Olga ,for me was ok full stop.I grew up with the Schabel version, and it remains utterly supreme for me. Incidentally Iussd to use the piece as a relaxant before captaining the cricket side .. just spread on the sofa and switch on. Beat the pants off valium.. For months I tried to find the meaning or word thi s said to me.. I knew there was something, and it eventually came ... resignation . In the sense of acceptance .Of what? No idea.. but thats the word. MW.
Schubert’s music are musical. People cannot fall asleep at a concert which uses Schubert’s music. Magical... I feel like I’m in a comforting sauna bath 🧖🏻♀️
I am studying this master peace, pretty much inspired by this performance. The most emotional one that let me drop a few tears every time I hear it! Beauty in it's most pure sense! Thank You Olga :)
This piece brings a lump in my throat no matter who plays it. My mother played like this. I sat at her knee and listened. She majored in music in 1928 from college. She could also play by ear and had "perfect pitch" which was a problem sometimes when asked to play in little churches.
One of the most delicate and beautiful renderings of this piece i have heard in a very very long time. As a professional musician, I have played this piece numerous times and with the No4, still remains one of Shubert's best. Olga has the gift and "feel" to wonderfully emphasize the main theme with the last 3 fingers of the Right Hand. I have heard most of the older masters, Rubenstein, Horowitz, Lang Lang and others play this , but Olga has acquired the knack of bringing Schubert to life in this piece. Well done Olga.
I thought she played this beautifully! I loved the way she balanced the melody against the inner voices in the right hand and appreciated the way she executed the melodies in the left with conviction and clarity. I loved everything about this performance.
What truly exquisite playing, the balance between power and tenderness it absolutely stunning, thank you so much, I was profoundly moved by your playing.
I feel like there is a message about life in this music. Life can be wonderfully beautiful, but at the same time there is a deep sadness in knowing that it ends. I feel like this piece captures both the beauty and wonder of life but also the profound sadness in knowing that it does not last forever. Olga expresses both the beauty and the sadness so well.
Wonderful. This is one of my very favorite piano pieces, and she played it so well. I like it just a tad slower, but she plays so delicately that I don't mind.
I tried to transcibe via online translator but it didn't work. Olga , your playing is superb and moves me to tears. This is my favourite piano piece and I will be eternally grateful that you shared it with so many people .You show so much feeling . xx
Brimming with so much life, passion and sensitivity! You really know how to make your instrument sing. Excellent storytelling and performance. I really believe that you realized Schubert's intention with regards this piece of his. For me your interpretation/realization of this piece is the best I've heard. Congratulations and keep on playing beautiful music for us. 🙂
Lovely interpretation -- it has a different spirit, of course, from that of performances by Horowitz and Zimerman. This version is a bit more passionate and impetuous compared with the elegiac quality of the latter two pianists' renditions. It sounds as if it were performed by a young pianist -- which she is.
+Rhea Borja I agree, she got some honesty on that moment to playing, i can feel her vibrations, she was telling something on every movement. I like her passion.
I don't know if it's because i discovered this piece with this version but i have listened to countless versions of it on youtube since and I always go back to this one. The sound and emotion is so perfect. Thank you for this wonderful interpretation of this masterpiece.
Fantastic interpretation of this great piece! Could really feel the passion and fire in the transition sections. Nice steady, smooth inner voicing throughout. Such a gentle, expressive touch. Thank you!
I spend hours listening to this mind blowing music. Schubert's Impromtu in G flat for me is heavenly. The Marche Militare played with 4 pair of hands, bright and innovative. Superb.
This music is so moving, so powerfully emotional. I am finding that I cannot listen to it too often, lest I become completely overwhelmed with emotion.
I've known this for years without knowing what it was. It was used as the intro/outro music of one of my childhood audiobooks, The Enchanted Horse... Always loved how bittersweet it sounded, even when I was little.
¡ ESCUCHAR A FRANZ ES ACERCARSE A LAS ALTURAS !! ¡ SIEMPRE HAY UN TIEMPO PARA PENSAR QUE BAJARÁ UN ANGEL , PARA MOSTRARNOS ALGO TODAVÍA MÁS HERMOSO !! ¡ CON ESTAS MELODÍAS, PODEMOS SOLAZAR EL ALMA Y ESPERAR CONFIADOS LA BUENAVENTURA FINAL !!
Bravo, Olga! It's very hard to find this piece played as well as you do. Brendel, Kempff, Rubinstein, Schiff, Zimerman, and yes, even Horowitz and Sokolov didn't get it like you. Thank you.
One of the most beautiful piano pieces ever written - my dear departed mother could play the notes but not the meaning - this is a wonderful interpretation, not as muscular as Brendel's but possibly as sensitive - ok just an amazing piece of music
This piece is somewhat reminiscent of Liszt's Libestraum, but as beautiful as that is, this is even more beautiful if that's even possible, this has calmed me recently during some very anxious nights
La differenza sostanziale tra Olga e gli altri pianisti,è che Olga non suona il pianoforte,ma lo accarezza rendendo così la musica più fluida e melodica Grande!!!!!
