Sinds het winnen van de eerste prijs van het Internationale Koningin Elisabeth Concours in Brussel in 2003, heeft de Duitse pianist Severin von Eckardstein (1978) vele successen gekend. Zo trad hij op met gerenommeerde orkesten en dirigenten, waaronder het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest, Valery Gergiev en Jaap van Zweden.
Von Eckardstein is een veelzijdig pianist met een breed repertoire, variërend van Bach tot hedendaagse muziek. Zijn recital betekent een spectaculaire tweede avond van het Young Pianists Festival Amsterdam. Deze jonge meester is een voorbeeld voor de deelnemers van de YPF Piano Competition 2013.

This music, so totally different from any extravert pianism, with the touching flow of expressive and profound feeling, takes you into another world. Eckardstein gives it its full due... he understands this utmost individual emotional and musical world as if it is his own. You rarely hear Schubert this way. The richness of toucher, the supple technique, the perfect and natural ease, it's all there. The mechanics of technique and instrument have been completely absorbed into pure, intimate musicianship. A profound lesson about what music for the piano is and how it can be played.

It is really mind-boggling the level capture he achieved at this record. This sonata has episodes of moods and I am amazed how Severin bind them all together. I also thought that there was authenticity in the playing as if it's been recorded in 1880's. Probably I would remember rest of my live if I was one of the audiences. Best interpretation!

Best interpretation ever? I think so ... Schubert is alive and kicking ! Perfect tempo, perfect technique, subdued but really deep emotions ... and the 'encore' is also breathtaking. Thank you, thank you.

200 % akkoord met Ignace! Gelukkig zijn er nog moedige en eerlijke pianisten die zichzelf niet laten opsluiten in het keurslijf van de vermarkting. Severin is er daar één van. Ik ben er hem dankbaar voor.

Cet interprète se classe à mon avis parmi les 3meilleurs, avec Kovacevich et Chiovetta par. 1) le respect du texte et le choix des rythmes 2) l'absence de tout maniérisme, dont ce chef-d'oeuvre n'a pas besoin 3) une grande expressivité. Mieux que Brendel, Richter, Kempff, Schnabel, Arrau, etc...

It might have been the way I was only really passively watching, or the way this performer played, or just the music, but I found the sonata very boring. The Impromptu, however, was marvelous, save for the fact that he took it a bit fast for my taste.

Es gehört eine gewisse Souveränität dazu, in S. keinen "defizitären Rachmaninow" zu sehen, sondern im "fast nichts" die eigentlichen Effekte zu suchen - und zu finden.
