This Ständchen (Serenade) by Franz Schubert is one of his most popular compositions. It is from Schwanengesang, a romantic song cycle which is usually sung by a singer who is accompanied by a pianist.
The great piano virtuoso and composer Franz Liszt transcribed this song (amongst many others) for piano solo - merging voice and piano into one piano. I have recorded this transcription and some other Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn song transcriptions by Liszt on my debut album for Sony Classical which was awarded the ECHO Klassik.
These recordings can also be found on RU-vid.
This video was my second encore at my second drive-in piano recital in the Blackforest in Germany (Titisee-Neustadt). Klosterkonzerte St. Blasien presented the concert in cooperation with Krone-Theater Neustadt and it was filmed and broadcast by Baechle Event & Media. Many thanks to Steinway & Sons dealer Labianca for the beautiful instrument!
