He loved music - and could play anything. But still, the love is most important. Here is a bit from Wikipedia: In 1935, Arrau gave a celebrated rendition of the entire keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach over 12 recitals. In 1936, Arrau gave a complete Mozart keyboard works over 5 recitals, and followed with the complete Schubert and Weber cycles. In 1938, for the first time, Arrau gave the complete Beethoven piano sonatas and concertos in Mexico City. Arrau repeated this several times in his lifetime, including in New York and London.
Claudio Arrau is always a great pianist, and one who is never in a hurry to play too fast to impress his public , but always takes his time to explain whats he doing. Many pianists should take this example. A pleasure to listen to this version. Thanks for uploading
Arrau's weighty hands enable this music to sing and dance without force or strain enabling rich but subtle emotional colouring. Very lovely playing of works that can sound cluttered.
What a poet Arrau was! The phrasing is a marvel of plasticity, the tone coloration is subtle, every gesture is poised and natural. He played in such a way as to show us the heart of the music. Thanks for sharing this.
After listening to several versions. I had embraced the very "pressurized" way the of the other artists cramming it all together. Now I hear this more "relaxed" version. I assume it's the same amount of notes being played, but the energy level seems lower. However, Francois and Melvyn have convinced me to appreciate the ease at wich Arrau plays.
