Note this production technology enables manufacture of parts and watches in huge numbers - so how can they be worth so much? The value is actually in the BRAND the watch itself costs very little to make.
@M7x0.75
@M7x0.75 6 лет назад
They are not produced in large scale. Not only the brand defines the price, but also the exclusivity.
@RollaArtis
@RollaArtis 6 лет назад
Yes, production is limited in order to keep exclusivity and the high value. But if they wanted to, they could just as easily make thousands which everyone could afford to buy. Although with a higher grade of manufacture, PP watches are just like like all other wrist watch brands. They are made using production machines which are designed to throw out finished parts in great quantities. The watches are hand assembled not hand made - except for the engraving, engine turning and some hand finishing.
@codorin
@codorin 6 лет назад
Have fun making thousands of them.... It will not be the same ... Just 4 different people who have the skills to make this particular watch... Try finding some more people at this caliber you will find 10 needles in 20 piles of hay before you find one. Most people I know can't do a mundane thing properly. Making art out of watches, very few.
@RollaArtis
@RollaArtis 6 лет назад
4 people? Do not believe anything Swiss watch manufacturers tell you. As you can see, these watch parts are not made by hand. Most parts not even finished by hand. Only assembled by hand.
@joshuasanford6934
@joshuasanford6934 6 лет назад
To put things into perspective PP has over 2000 employees. They probably produce 1% the quantity of watches that Rolex produces which in itself is a very exclusive brand. The reason being is that every employee does just one step in a painfully long process, but they do it perfectly. It is this drive to the perfection of human craftsmanship that is what make these watches so valuable. Also PP doesn't only make 2.5 million dollar watches. They only made 7 of these i believe, so to make up for the 1000s of man hours in designing these watches the price has to be jacked up a little to compensate.
@thepro08

to be very honest is more valuable the time of countless people wasting their time looking at at stupid commercial of 11 min than any watches ever made.

Is there any real reason to use ruby bushings inside a wristwatch? I get that its for themal stability, but is it really necessary? Just seems like something that would only really be necessary in a 100 thousandths dial indicator. Im sure im wrong, but id like to understand if its a "because we can" thing or if it has a practical use. Is it to keep everything rotating freely in temperature extremes? Like would the gears unmesh in high temperature or the shaft be as tight as a press fit in the cold? At the scale of the components is thermal stability a necessity?
@--matthew--
@--matthew-- 5 лет назад
It is used in all mechanical watches, even those that cost under 100 bucks. It is basically a synthetic sapphire [Al2O3] made in laboratory and cut in to pieces using diamond coated saws. It is the same material that the scratch resistant sapphire crystal watches are made of (but this one is colorized). The reason you want to have it there is to reduce friction in the place where the moving and static parts contact. If there were steel-on-steel connections between these parts, they would get deformed over time.
@donzmilky5961
@donzmilky5961 5 лет назад
@@--matthew-- oh, dial indicators use synthetic ruby instead of saphire, for thermal stability, looked like a red donut to me just like in a starrett indicator.

My dad was rich. He would say a man should have two keys - for his house and his car. He owned one very thin gold watch all his life that had been made by an unknown watchmaker in Poland. He had a long thin wallet from Italy. He had one credit card. He ate mostly in Italian and French restaurants. He thought I was a barbarian.

Actually the price is inline to Patek’s cost. They only made 6 of these. The amount of engineering, development, testing, after 5 years this is not off the mark. As the most complicated wrist watch to date, with the most complications, the effort was to sell this to only the best Patek customers of interest. This was done for stretching Patek’s reputation as the technical leader, and publicize this, while then putting in place something that will generate publicity when auctioned off 20 years from now at a new record price, which then is supply and demand in the most crazy manor as I expect one to sell for over $50 million dollars. Their similar watch from decades past sold close to $20 of $30 million at auction a couple of years ago. That is part of the hype Patek is planting a seed for, this publicity, and perhaps this is their biggest sin. If they don’t do this the others will continue to do it and Patek’s ego and reputation may diminish in the eyes of their market, which is the richest of watch buyers. If you compare a $50,000 Patek to a $500 Speedmaster, in your hands and carefully inspect these watches, there is no comparison. One is paying for technology and refining of the product with technology and fit and finish, plus a bit because it is Patek.
