In which I ruthlessly* cull my sci fi shelves to make room for more...sci fi books.
#sciencefiction #scifibooks #booktube #bookunhaul
* rather timidly tbh

I laughed at the point at 15:16 when the book fell and it was Planetfall 😄

Velocity Weapon .... I was suckered into that one by the poster-worthy cover. Only thing worthwhile about it, should have been a poster!

It was mid-table for me, didn't hate it. Thanks for watching 👀!

I really like those sleek editions of the Simmons books. Nicely done making space! Just in time for all of those new books you onloaded haha.

Hi Niki. I just shelved my latest haul (video next week) and it barely fits. No room at the inn. I am planning a stealth mission to expand into some downstairs shelf space. Mynwife will never know (she'll spot it immediately, but better to seek forgiveness than ask for permission!).....thanks for watching 👀!

Hahaha yeah have to be stealthy when creeping into new real estate. That’s about how my recent haul/unhaul went. I’m exactly where I started.

I don't know if you're into historical fiction but Conn Iggulden has written a lot of it. 'Wolf of the Plains' by him is one of the best single historical fiction books I've read. Great battles and storytelling.

I read the Illuminatus Trilogy as a teenager, probably a mistake, because I couldn’t understand all the pop culture references, but even then, I had the feeling of reading something special, like the ultimate conspiracy theory that ends all conspiracy theories. … You should keep the Witcher books. They are very good. Don’t judge them by the TV show … Cavill is great as the Witcher, but only a few episodes capture the feeling of the books. Instead, you should play the Witcher Wild Hunt game (or watch a walkthrough), it’s so much closer to the novels and complements the books nicely. … And great to see some Philip K. Dick books here, he‘s my favorite Scifi author of all times, and I will never forget when I took one of his books from the library for the first time … it was a short story collection with „The Father Thing“, and a Playboy release … I won’t forget the look on the faces of my parents either … 😂

Hi Michael. I've sold the Witcher books! Too late...oh well, never mind. Maybe I'll listen on audiobook one day. Thanks for watching 👀!

Now THAT is a good clear-out. I endorse your selections. I would add Max Brooks _Devolution_ as it wasn't very clever and pretty average. I'd also not give Cronin's _The Passage_ the time of day. Easily one of my least favorite books I had the displeasure of reading.

Ha yes i remember you slamming The Passage before. Noted re Devolution. others have cheered on both, mind, in these very comments. Cheers Kev, thanks for watching 👀!

I audit after every read....if I really enjoy it and would reread it(if i ever did rereads) then I keep it...if not, then it goes bye bye....even some books i like but it's really not something i'd be interested in rereading then it has a high chance of leaving. I also have separate shelves for books I haven't read...I don't mix them all together.

Wow that's very disciplined. I tend to err of the side of caution but that is getting me into trouble from a shelving point of view. Thanks for watching 👀!

Hi Jon, it's the right decision to keep Wilson's "Illuminatus Trilogy". It's not just a simple conspiracy theory story, alongside Ecco's "Focault's Pendulum it's the genre-defining conspiracy theory. The band "The KLF" named itself after it and its entire myth is based on this book. Even if you never read it, keep it, it's a pop culture milestone. And get rid of Sanderson, you're not a 14 year old girl.

Jon, you may keep Deus Irae, only after getting you cat to pee on it. 😂 In commemoration of what happened to the original manuscript, before it was sent to the publisher for the printing. 😮🤪 To be honest, I've never had problems removing books from my collection, to be resold via used book stores. Nor for any other media. I've always been more interested in what lies between the covers, and I've never found the musty smell of paperbacks and hardbacks of dubious provenance appealing. 🙄 So good for you Jon. 😉🙂🎉

Dump Cowl by Neal Asher, Prey by Michael Crichton and Artemis by Andy Weir. Keep Stephen King books, please.
@SciFiScavenger
@SciFiScavenger Месяц назад
Artemis wasn't very good, as i recall, or perhaps my memory is being swayed by the many negative opinions i keep hearing about it. I'll probably keep it to check for myself at some point. I'veread a few Asher books but ages ago, his earlier stuff. i need to put him on trial, see if i like him now. Cheers, thanks for watching 👀!

No, there just wasn't any audio in the speeded up sections, or nothing interesting. I felt like the previous episodes were over-long so trimmed it that way. [Unless something else went wrong!]

@@SciFiScavenger to be honest it was such a long time ago that I read it that I can't remember in detail. I think the premise was so intriguing, but the book fail to deliver on it. I think I also found it a bit too 'cute' and 'cosy'. Also, the version I had compared it to Rendezvous with Rama...and (for me) that's a lot to live up to (it didn't).
@JohnG225
@JohnG225 21 день назад
@@SciFiScavenger but also bear in mind that I don't really get on with the Culture books, which I know you love, so your mileage may well vary with Noumenon :) (not that I'm comparing Noumenon to The Culture).

You're keeping those Rama sequels by Gentry Lee? Pure garbage, of you ask me... The only Rama book worth anything is Clarke's original Remdezvous, imo.
@SciFiScavenger
@SciFiScavenger Месяц назад
I have kept them for now, yes. I re-read RWR last year, thought it was a bit boring. I may or may not read the others at some point. If i get even more desperate for shelf space perhaps they'll have to go. Call it a stay of execution!

@@SciFiScavenger I only read It once, in 1975. Back then I'd gladly read anything by Clarke, even his laundry lists!😂 I know it's slow, but still I was enthralled. Rama ll I actually dumped in a waste basket...(I got it real cheap off a street vendor)
