Sci Fi Channel Promos (Early 2000) 

Nanoforge1 I've got almost 20 more tapes to go through. I've been trying to go through in chronological order, and I am at tapes from June and July of 2000 now. Send me a message if their are any specific promos you are looking for, I might have them. As for Prey, that's part of why I find Sci Fi's schedule from the beginning to about mid 2004 so fascinating. The channel wasn't afraid to pick up short lived series to air on a regular basis. Whether they were lesser known series like Space: Above and Beyond, Alien Nation, or Dark Skies (to name only a few), or more well known series like Kolchak, The Time Tunnel and the original Battlestar Galactica. I only wish that I would have been old enough to appreciate all of channel's unique programming before it all went down the drain when NBCUniversal took over in 2004. Oh yeah, I have seen the Innermind SFC board before. Great site and you are right about it. So far I am happy with you putting up anything though I do like some of the 98-2002 bumps and intros the best. That is when SciFi did their SciFI 2.0 revamp of all their onscreen graphics and bumps. About the short lived series. When SciFi first started that was really the only way for them to get themselves off the ground as they had limited funds for original movies and programs and were sharing financial responsibilities with USA Network. Eventually they got picked up by Schweppes and then Universal and they were able to create more SciFi branded shows but they always fell back on the nostalgia that older series brought to their channel. It is sad that with the current owners we have little nostalgia in the programming department and more emphasis on cheap FX driven movies and series that are often not as good as the old stuff. I think the last time I felt like SciFI really wowed me was the year Farscape debuted, and that wasn't even the favored show of that season, First Wave got the distinction of getting a 3 year commitment out of the gate where as Farscape had to sing for it's supper each season and hope it got renewed.

This channel was so cool back then that they took a 13-episode failed ABC series and made it look badass with one promo. Really brilliant editing on all of their promos, incredible sound design and voiceovers.

Yeah because nothing says scifi like THe Craft.

Nothing says SciFi like "Smackdown"

Not even recognizing Wrestling's existence on SciFi.

Thankfully the channel course corrected back to focusing on genre and its fandom last year.

Yes. It was good network in those days. I used to watch this channel all of the time. NBC acquired it and they must have done some market research and figured they could make more money by targeting a demographic that does not like "Sci Fi". This happens a lot. A network will be built by targeting a niche audience to make money early on and then they will abandon that audience and rebrand.
