Learned the quote from an XO years ago. He knew the "politics", or staffing as he called it, to get us what we needed. Not sure what happened to him after he picked up O-5 & transferred, but some Admiral in DC probably got a helluva Chief of Staff.
I really hope more people write will write stories in this kind of gaming genre. Sadly, OP’s account got suspended, so it’s difficult to see if they wrote more stories like this, except for part 1, which was linked in the original story.
Can't remember the set-up for this. I'd almost be worried about showing my adaptability (& frankly, genius) in a game if war were possible. But if that were unlikely, then this would be a good way to earn some respect in the alliance or confederation or whatever. I do love the gaming aspect of this.
