I really appreciate how suddenly and quietly the ship flew away. Almost every spaceship you ever see, when taking off or landing, is a fanfare of visuals and sound effects, but this broke that expectation in the most pleasing way.

Yes nice departure. Right up there with E.T. when the ship leaves and they de-tune the gravity phase compensator and make a rainbow. My all time favorite though is in Cocoon. I saw it in the theater and there was a sub-sonic undertone that played while the ship was leaving the Sol system under full star-dirve. It sent chills up my spine. You could just feel the power of the ship. While hovering over earth they were using less than 1% power, but in flight... WOW! You really got the impression that there was the power of an exploding sun contained in that ship. I have watched DVD and BluRay version and the under-tone is completely missing, such a shame. Some things can only be conveyed in a good theater.

Cleverly done. You found out all about the man's life through the photos, life on the sea, marriage, kids, simple development but important to give a familiarity to the main character. He had the feel that he' 'seen it all, been there done that' but then sees something fantastical and unique to him. The smile almost says...'well, life is still really full of surprises'. Think there was just one line in it, 'won't be long'. Direction was on point, and the acting beautifully understated. Great work.

Yoga says old souls have already been in this universe 100s or 1000s of times (on their journey home to god, into eternity, the limitless self, our true nature if you trust in Vedanta). A rare film in which every molecule of it is perfection: casting, close-ups, location, sounds of the "thing," the "thing," costume, music, every shot does it's job without wasting time being long-winded. Going through all the Dust shorts now, and this is my absolute favourite so far. Told from a relatable, everyman perspective; hinting at a much larger lore without showing too much; beautifully simple in it’s concept and execution; creative special effects that don’t overdo it - reminds me and takes me back to the moment when the space truckers found the “jockey” in Alien... my favourite moment of sci fi cinema. I liked that the ship was rather dilapidated. It looked like it had been on the bottom for a long time. Activated by the lightning strikes? Marvelous use of actors, both human and animal. Lots of little items acting as clues, nice. His reaction was spot on, "Oh and I saw a huge alien ship rise out of the sea just a bit ago." I don't think so, because when you see such a thing, what are you to do? It's gone and all you are left with is an unbelievable story.

Some of my best stories are incomplete. A good story in a film or game (visual mediums are better at this) leave you with questions, but provide enough information to answer most of them. This is so you look deeper, and find connections you might not have noticed. It's all there, you just need to find it. Those don't work for all stories (some work better with the bare minimum information given), but it's certainly a way to increase interaction and retention

The beauty of these short films is that they keep it simple and leave room for speculative discussion, which is part of the fun. Good writing keeps you asking questions, but at the same time you don't want the mystery to be over, because once the mystery is over, the fun is over. The smile on the old guy's face at the end, though... Once over the initial shock, and the realization of what he saw hitting home was classic; an old man in the twilight of his life found new joy and child-like wonder in something alien and inexplicable.

Excellent ! I like the tension you feel all along the film, especially when something happens into the sea and the man doesn't see it. Great ! The whole story in the silence of words, but so expressive...

Swell! The man was flabbergusted (or flubbergasted). Blessed are the animals, as they are accustomed to miracles.

For a second after it went quite I thought it broke down and was going to fall back in the sea. But then it shot off in a flash. That was great.

You can read volumes on his face. On the way out, he's just going through the motions. Nothing ever changes. He sees the ship and he's thinking 'What? How?' Then the ship is gone and he's sitting at home thinking 'I can't even tell anyone. They'll think I'm mad! But I know what happened to that old rowboat!'

I like the look on the cat's face when the clock chimed and the look on the dog's face at the end, when he glanced over at the man, kind of said it all.

Was one of the first Dust videos I watched. I half dismissed it at the time, but re-watched it a couple of times since, and this time absolutely "get it". The video hasn't changed, so maybe I have. I hope the team that made it went on to bigger and better things. Class.

Beautiful attention to detail. Complete fantasy and yet so real with all the rusty junk hanging down. Watched it twice and paused several times to take it all in. And no daunting music to create tension - it was not needed at all. Wasn’t there a reference to Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea?

At 4:53 there is a wrecked boat, perched over the right, larger arm of the spaceship. Is that, maybe, the boat of his son lost at sea? Is that the reason he goes there when a storm is coming? Is that the reason he smiles at the end? Great short movie. Wonderful! I loved it!
