LOT of interesting stuff illustrated in this short film. Emotionally, it really shows the sad divide between generations, and those things that are important to us at different stages of our lives. Youth doesn't understand the work and passion that go into something like a completely home-made meal, and the youngest generations often _can't_ understand it because they've never done it, or maybe don't even get them with parents who are always too busy, like her mother appears to be. Certainly also shows the challenges of technology for non-technical people, and yet, also shows how people a little _too_ comfortable with technology can be almost dismissive of the risks. Heh, though on a sidenote, as a Network Administrator, I have to wonder what sort of crazy company builds something that has all memory and configuration wiped by a software update! Jeez, my job would be even more a nightmare if that were true of everything. Very great fun film, and really has some great life-lessons on a lot of fronts. Loved the way it was filmed and presented.

yes i can understand rosa's upset at toto being new again, my granny has trouble everytime she needs a new phone, its the same to us but not to her and its alot harder for them to relearn things. she would have to teach toto everything all over again and thats alot for an elderly person.
@Dakiraun
@Dakiraun 2 года назад
@@LordGreavous Yes - when she was still around, my grandmother didn't get a lot of technology and didn't have the patience for it. In Rosa's case, it's also extra negative in that she _did_ teach TOTO, but then all that effort was lost by a great grand-daughter that didn't even comprehend why her actions were hurtful. It makes TOTO an excellent metaphor for how technology and generational divides can create misunderstandings.

Of course a child hasn't yet truly appreciated alot of things. That's why they're children. I used to take my grandma's cooking for granted. If grandma is still around when she's older, she will finally understand. Dogbert once made an analogy that today's human brain is a teacup being filled with a fire-hose.

Learning it then is better than being spoiled and given what you want. My parents - exhausted with work, severe medical conditions, my older siblings, and having kids late, found it easier to let me eat whatever. To let me get away with whatever. I lacked discipline. As a result, I lack discipline and willpower now. I could wear them down and get away with things. I was a good student and likable, so the trend continued. I had a rough homelife so the teachers wanted me to succeed. And I was smart so i did. But you can't tire out your boss and get away with stuff. Eating crap now means I'm chubby. Don't get me wrong there's no one to blame but myself. I started working at 12 so that's served me well. I moved out at 16 so I am capable of self-sufficiency. But lasting success has eluded me, where a more disciplined person - even far less intelligent - would've found great success.

I am a grandmother with only one grandchild. She has become like this girl--always looking at her phone, never has time to stay and watch a DVD, says I drive too slowly, gasps if I ask her to do something that saves me climbing stairs, is irritated if I miss a word as she speaks. I speak to her using three different languages so she will pick up simple phrases, teach her basic cooking, talk about her relatives of several generations back, show her how saying something or doing something kind for someone makes her feel happy, tell her to always do what she feels is right, even if it is against the law, and encourage her to travel and know the world, meeting people along the way. I never had a grandmother but wish I had.

Excellent little movie! Very relatable about how good devices are getting ruined by infamous system updates, and the careless generation of consumers who just mindlessly say yes to whatever the industry is shoving down our throats. - In fact I'm surprized that the old lady was even given a choise of updating or not.. Here in the real world most of the operating systems manufacturers have long since abandoned the good principle of asking for the user's consent first.

Congratulations to Marco Baldonado and Rosa Forlano, her perfomance was incredibly good. Ambientation, script, roles, photography (that figure of Jesus Christ, where the size, the background and its milimetrical ubication, provide to the scene with an exceptional witness ), sci-fi with that C-9007 called "toto" and his umbilical charging cord was designed and developed with care. The unique contribution of the Italian language that always dress with musicality, humanity, personality and tenderness wherever it is pronnounced, was also a great sucess. That lady whose wrinkles on her face not only reflect the passage of life but knowledge and wisdom, does not need any robot to perform and give herself to others on a day-to-day basis, she would never have burned her pizza.

But there there is a warning. Have you watched t IDIOCRACY? it is somehow a documentary Several matters are being developed worse and worse, from artisanship, to mechanical industry design and buildings, to software. More and more stupid stuff ("dancing", but very fondamental for humans like the actor inside the robot), even if without planned obsolescence.

Wonderful short film, It brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of a few years ago. My mom was having problems hearing her flip phone, with Bluetooth. I brought her to the cell phone store, so they could program it to work through her hearing aids. Rather than doing this one simple task they tried selling her a smart watch saying was what she needed. My mom was 80 at the time and barely knew how to turn on her computer. She had no need or desire to learn anything more. That's why she had a flip phone rather than a smartphone. Shortly before my mom passed I learned about a USA based cellphone manufacturering company who knows about this and designed their entire product line around seniors. Trying to make things easier for them with bigger buttons, louder volume and so on. However they weren't available in Canada at that time.

Thank you for this beautiful short film. It has a really poignant message about accepting the gifts of our elders exactly as they are. Don't try to "update" their gifts. The little girl was not being insenstive. She was just being a somewhat self-absorbed child. True for the mother. The grandmother accepted Toto just as he came in the package. And that's what we should do for the grandmothers in our lives.

As an adult child who learned to cook from watching and following the instructions of his mother, I now understand that the generational gap and appreciation for simple yet wholesome things like homecooked meals can be met through teaching and spending a lot of time with family. The source of the problem is this movie lies with the middle generation, i e adult daughter/granddaughter too "busy" to dedicate that time and views granny mainly as a babysitter. Children are naturally curious and helpful. If you teach them young enough and get them involved, be it in the kitchen for instance, some of that culty has a chance at passing on to the next generation. More importantly it will bring everyone closer together and make them understand and appreciate things that otherwise it would be impossible to know. The solution is for people to slow down and spend time with eachother rather than popping out kids and teaching them nothing. Realistically, both somewhat optimistically but sadly as well, robot companions becoming mainstream doesn't appear to be farfetched the further along we go. But I believe that the message here is that although potentially really useful in some situations like providing companionship for the elderly or disabled, they cannot replace the need for family and more importantly a close-knit family bond.

Much as I love my modern technology I sometimes wish programmers would remember the principle of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" Too often the gains made by a software update are countered by the loss of a valued functionality.

I really appreciate the story. I hate that Grams built rapport with the robot and the little girl updated the thing. I see a lot in the comments about the generation gap. The girl is a child. She hasn’t had enough life experience to be grateful for the pasta. At her age, I’d probably want pizza, too. A short story that introduced and maintained my empathy for the characters and left me wanting more, but at the same time, left me filling like I’ve enjoyed a full length film. Loved it.

Hey, that was for grandma! To make her day to day life a little easier and less lonely. And little granddaughter erased all of Grandma's work and happy memories with Toto. 😔 And the Mom, Rosa's daughter, saying she's going to help her with it, there's no way that will ever happen. Ten years later she'll still be talking about 'someday.' Someday never comes. Well, I guess Rosa will just have to take time to teach Toto and make friends with him all over again. Don't let kids or anybody play with him unattended any more.

Understanding of giving and receiving LOVE between generations and to respect each other’s and how much time we have for each other . I really enjoyed this . Sad but it shows the reality , everyone needs compassion in different ways

It's like that movie "Frank and the Robot". I'm now middle age, never had kids, but work in tech and have generally kept up with technology. I hope digital assistants like this will be common and affordable in my old age. Just like Japan's aging population, there are many Americans that never had kids. Weird that a new robot is kinda dingy looking - also, software updates shouldn't erase important memory...

Seems like bad engineering that the update requires a factory reset. Also, trading fresh pasta for frozen pizza...

Oh, this reminds me of my feisty, little Italian Grandma so much. Kids! Well, that's how they are, especially at that age. I wasn't as much of an angel as my G'ma thought I was, lol. But, I was there for her, and helped take care of her particularly in her golden years to the end. I do believe you would've heard her drop a few F-bombs, etc though, with things like the pizza(gate) and the girl damaging her new robot. 🤖

It made me sad. There are a lot of reasons in this short to make me sad. Loosened family connections, isolation, loneliness, ungratefulness, aging… My grandmothers used to tell stories about their tough childhood, too. Stories about struggle and hunger and kindness. Later I learnt that they had never tell us the darkest things, such as deaths of their mothers and siblings and other hurtful events. Home-cooked food is the best! I would be happy to have any meal cooked by my grandmothers. Unfortunately, I can’t anymore. Be grateful for having your family around. I think that many of younger people do not appreciate home-cooked food because they don’t know how much it takes to cook anything. It happens to almost any activity. The girl was so ignorant to mess up with the device that was not her in the first place. She should have asked the owner - her grandma - if she could update the software and briefly explain all the pros and cons of it. And… what a weird software update that reset all settings and memory!

Agreed, but the girl swims in tech and for her the update was just background noise. She likely thought she was helping.
@Beading_Kate
@Beading_Kate 2 года назад
@@WilliamStonerock you’re right, but… I still think that children should be taught the right way to interact with someone else’s belongings. There should be respect and attention. I bet the girl would be upset, too, if grandma did the same thing to her tablet or phone.
