9:05 Oh boy, you have no idea how poor was understanding of average people around the world what nuclear explosion capable was. Fallout game series really not that far away from naivety of 1950’s Americans. And such government sponsored cartoons were made mainly for two purposes: 1) To reduce raising panic and mistrust among citizens, who slowly began realising full power of nuclear warfare. 2) Make potential job for funeral teams easier, since most corpses would be in kind of expected places.
As you enjoyed the movie, I would recommend reading the children's novel on which its based, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes (1968), a classic (although the story is quite different).
Im 21 now so this came out before i was born but it is by far my favorite childhood movie i actually got a pretty cool tattoo of the giant a few months ago and I still watch this movie like once per year
Really awesome scene! Someone told me that there is a deleted scene of the Giant dreaming of some massive space war. I definitely need to see that for a little backstory. Thank you for watching, my friend!
There is an extended edition with the Giant's dream - where he and more just like him basically vapourise an entire planet. So he is literally a super-weapon. Some of the themes were informed by Brad Bird's sister being murdered (shot) and he imagined, "what if a gun had a soul and could choose". The entire film is a masterpiece from start to finish on pretty much any level; you can rewatch and enjoy it more each time (trust me, I had to do this when my son was about 6 and wanted it every night for a week - I watched and enjoyed it every bloody time).
Thank you so much for this information. I had no idea about the director's sister, which, now knowing, provides amazing context into the film. Also...hell yeah for finding that movie that you can watch with your kids while still enjoying the hell out of it yourself :) Thank you for watching and the great info, my friend!
4:18 I know squirrels and can tell that they are worst than rats and mice. They are cute…Until you witness how they eating small birds (staring with heads) and cannibalising on each other’s offsprings (do to competition for food).
honestly, what was Kent's plan with the escaping in the truck. the dudes on the ship'll verify he's the one who called in the strike, and with him being the only survivor, someone will connect the dots and lock him up. hell, they would probably lock em up and hang him out for this anyway just to cover up a nuke destroying a town.
My guy had absolutely no clue and no plan. Other than some misdirected idea of advancement, his motivations are completely lost on me. The one thing I do know is that Christopher MacDonald is aces at playing a grade A a-hole :) Thank you for watching, my friend!
It's been a long time since I saw this one, but just the recap made me teary-eyed. What is it about Vin Diesel that he can get you right in the feelz that way?
Right?!? Since seeing this, I've been telling everyone 'Vin Diesel is awesome and emotionally evocative in The Iron Giant'. And everyone has responded with, 'Ah yeah we've known that for nearly 25 years...where the hell have you been?' :D Thank you for watching, my friend! See you Friday!
Movie fact: Director Brad Bird was inspired to make this movie after his sister Susan was murdered by her husband, who shot her. His pitch was "What if a gun had a soul, and didn't want to be a gun?" Also here are other Sci-fi movies that are more family friendly that I grew up with: *Batteries Not Included (happens to be the screenwriting debut of Brad Bird) Flight of the Navigator Short Circuit
Such an amazing and heartbreaking story of inspiration. I am fairly certain I've seen *batteries not included and I know I've seen Shot Circuit. I've never seen Flight of the Navigator though. Need to change that. Thank you for watching and the information, my friend!
This is my first non-Star Trek reaction from you. Great reaction to this incredible animated film. If you watch it more than once, it comes to be more meaningful. All the discussion about souls and becoming who you choose to be really hits home for me. Also, the focus on the menace of gun violence came from the director Brad Bird coping with the death of his sister who was shot by her estranged husband. Also, note the subtle reference to the death of Bambi's mother. That deer was intentionally made to look like a deer from Disney's film "Bambi." It's been a while since I've seen this film, but isn't there a brief scene show a lot of metal robots on another planet at war with each other? This isn't just an anti-gun movie, but also a great anti-war movie The time line of this film starts with the launch of the Russian satellite Sputnik and also takes place in the beginning years of the Vietnam War. "I am not a gun," is a great message. Viva the iron Superman!!
I saw this with a group of kids when i was 27 yrs old at the theater. I was so choked up that when it ended, i could barely speak. Such a surprisingly great film.❤
Damn that sounds like when I went to see Inside Out with my kids and their friends...not a good call on my part :) The Iron Giant lulled me into a false sense of security and then hit me with that haymaker in the final act. Completely agree with you...a surprisingly great film. Thank you so much for watching, my friend!
@@WarpReactor Hullo, I was one of the animators on the film. Glad you liked it. All of us that worked on it are VERY glad that it's regarded as one of the very best of the best. And we're all very proud of it. All the best to you. And thanks for the fun reaction. :)
HaHa I honestly can't remember a character that is supposed to be a functioning member of society act SO F'N CREEPY. Plus he has zero redemption arc...ZERO. Thanks for watching and the laugh, my friend!
28:41 It worth a lot to bring over a thousand trained soldiers with their equipment, weapons, vehicles and supplies. Especially in remote areas. Not to mention that they were prepared for real fight.
Yup as soon as I saw the destroyers/battleships off the coast, I knew that the general was NOT exaggerating :) I like to think that came out of Mansley's prison wages for the rest of his life :)
