Feelings are often associated with physical reactions: terror can send chills down your spine, and love can leave you weak in the knees. A recent study has linked specific emotions to physical sensations. Researchers tested emotional responses in hundreds of subjects and then created maps identifying locations in the body where emotions cause physical changes.

It makes sense that anger would in increase activation in the upper body especially the arms but not in the lower body. When you're anger you usually wanna punch something but not kick it. Also, it makes sense that with depression there is no activation in the head and chest but there is increases activation with sadness. When you're are sad, you cry and feel your heart ache, but you don't feel anything when you're depressed.

That was incredible, thank you for this. Love looks like a good place to be, although pride was pretty bright as well. Our bodies communicate at such amazing levels.

Am I the only one that is slightly upset by this study and how it's everywhere now and how everyone's praising it? I just can't get over the fact, that instead of actually measuring the subjects body temperature, they asked them to describe it themsleves. Isn't it a given that there will be some effects of social desirability mixing in?
@SchwarzeUwe
@SchwarzeUwe 10 лет назад
No I'm too. I was so exited when I saw the pictures but when I read the abstract I was very disappointed and upset. I think its a kind of fraud, because it looks like it was measured but IT IS NOT MEASURED!

***** As you can see from my commentary above, I disagree with the presentation of the study, but to say it is not scientific is perhaps a bit to far. I would say it is a nice social science study because it is based on opinion and not on measurements.

Physically measuring things is not the only way of studying things. There are other kinds of scientific approaches too, especially in social and psychological sciences.
@SchwarzeUwe
@SchwarzeUwe 9 лет назад
NovaJoanna For me measuring is the only way to study things (Objects). When it comes to study social and psychological components of humans and animals then there might be other ways to come to new knowledge. But as in other sciences you have to be aware what your results imply and what not. In the description box is written: "...created maps identifying locations in the body where emotions cause physical changes." And thats is totally wrong! The study didn't show where emotions cause physical changes, because no physical changes were measured. The people thought they feel something in these body parts. And as everybody, who was ill, knows that you could feel hot and cold weather you are warm or cold. The perception of temperature of humans are not very accurate. And again I think that is a nice study but the presentation is at least very inaccurate. most of the time they write about physical changes but in reality its the feeling of or sensation of physical changes.

This was great, I have been researching "examples of physiology in the human body" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Piayilliam Uncomplex Power - (just google it ) ? It is an awesome one off guide for discovering how to become an expert in human anatomy and physiology minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.

I was thinking that. Spider man was kind of created out of the shame he felt for not stopping that robber, who then went onto kill his uncle.

  Humans have a stage of sleep that features rapid eye movement (REM). REM sleep makes up around 25% of total sleep time and is often when you have your most vivid dreams. Most adults have 32 teeth. The smallest bone found in the human body is located in the middle ear. The staples (or stirrup) bone is only 2.8 millimetres long. Your nose and ears continue growing throughout your entire. Infants blink only once or twice a minute while adults average around 10. The left side of your body is controlled by the right side of your brain while the right side of your body is controlled by the left side of your brain. Antibiotics are only effective against bacteria, they won't help in fighting off a virus It takes the body around 12 hours to completely digest eaten food. Your sense of smell is around 10000 times more sensitive than your sense of tas

I like the information, though I am culturally conditioned to not like the (intimidating or frightfully anticipating) music at the end. Sort of soured the video for me. Edit: read in the comments that this study used human reporting and not physical measurements. I think I'll downvote now for what I am believing to be slight deception.
