Listening to your definition of meditation I'd say that knitting is a form of meditation. I am an avid knitter and when I pick up my knitting and concentrate on the repetitive pulling a string over a loop, over and over, for hours even, everything else leaves the mind and a deep relaxation comes over me.

About three years ago, my marriage ended abruptly. It was one of the most painful experiences I have ever gone through. I was looking for ways to ease the emotional pain and I found out about meditation. I started using the Waking Up App to meditate and I can assure you that meditation can be an incredibly powerful tool to disconnect yourself from your emotions. When you recognize that you are not what you are thinking or feeling and that in fact you are the space where the thinking and feeling is taking place. Somehow that recognition eased my psychological pain so much. Being able to see things from that perspective helped me tremendously to accept my reality.

Your discussion of binaural beats makes perfect sense to me as a trumpet player. In music we use these to tune intervals. Depending on the interval being played, the relationship between two notes in a given overtone series will produce a third combination tone in a lower octave. So the two notes of a perfect fifth, when played exactly in tune, will produce a tone one octave lower than the lower note of the interval, or exactly half the frequency of the lower note. By listening for the combination tone and getting it to ring in tune, we have tuned the interval perfectly. Composers can make use of these acoustical relationships to create striking harmonies and chord progressions that make your hair stand up and even seem to affect your spiritual or emotional state.

Had some personal issues so I started reading up on Buddhism and meditation. To summarize: All emotional suffering comes from wishing things were different from what they are. (Four Noble Truths). People spend a great deal of time thinking about the past and wishing things are different from how they are. Meditation is the best tool to correct this. My meditation lasts only ten minutes. Stop thinking about "things". Easier said than done which is why meditation must be practiced somewhat frequently. When a thought comes to mind, immediately push it out. The goal is to sit and be aware of your surroundings, be in the present, not thinking about any one thing. If a thought comes up that may provide an answer to a current issue/problem you have, let your thoughts continue on that track. No matter what problems you have, while you are meditating and being aware second by second, nothing can harm you.

After putting it of for years I first tried meditation 3 years ago. So far I have tried different guided meditations. Some centered around breathing and awareness, some centered around affirmations, some "falling asleep" meditations wich I now do almost every night. With the breathing ones I have reached a trance like state pretty easily after just a few weeks of practice. A guided meditation centered around affirmations helped me with my needle phobia when getting the covid vaccines and I can count on my hands how often I heard the end of a falling asleep meditation. I have also noted some changes in my day to day life. I am able to focus better at work and get a hell of a lot done in a short amount of time if I need to. Also my boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship. It takes me a 7,5 hour drive to visit him (if traffic is good). Usually I need 2-3 energy drinks for the drive to stay allert and focused. When I do a lot of meditation centered around breathing and self awareness I am able to drive all the way without a single energy drink.

I've never been big into meditation or breathing techniques until I recently learned about Heart-Rate Variability (HRV), and its connection to the autonomic nervous system. Tying that in with the fact that deep steady "Resonant Breathing" around 6 respirations per minute can allow you to "take back" your nervous system from fight-or-flight and I've really discovered something that works for me, personally.

You can definitely control your brainwaves. When I was a kid about 14 I was doing a program to help with adhd where I had to focus to bring my beta waves above my theta waves. Typically you would get a spike that crossed over but I go good enough to keep them crossed over constantly. The techs though the cap was on my head wrong and kept making adjustments but eventually they just gave up came to terms that I was actually changing my brainwaves.

The beauty of meditation is that it can be anything you want it to be because each person has command of their own mental state, dream space, imagination or focused intention. You can never do it "wrong"... and for those seeking a Spiritual connection, it is said that Prayer is our communication TO a Higher Power and Meditation is our communication FROM a Higher Power! 💖

Thank you for this very, very interesting video! 10 years ago I was in Thailand for a beginners course. It endured 3 weeks. The last 3 days the teacher-monk told me not to sleep. It was meant to lead me into deeper states of meditation without consciousness. As a psychotherapist I thought, it's not possible to not sleep for 3 days and nights... but, from the second night on, in sitting meditations, I fell "asleep" - in the lotus-position. And after waking up (after 10min sleep or so), I was highly refreshed, more than after a 'normal' sleep. After the reatreat I was full of energy. So, if I understood you right, my experience could be explained with the role of delta-waves. I would be happy, if you would make more videos about the effects of meditation. Greetings from switzerland, lilian

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:28 🤔 Meditation is the training of awareness and clearing the mind for emotional and mental stability. 03:33 🧠 Neural oscillations, or brain waves, are electrical patterns in the brain measured in hertz, with different frequencies associated with various states of consciousness. 05:21 🌿 AG1 is a comprehensive foundational nutritional supplement that can replace multiple other supplements, promoting overall health and gut health. 09:43 🌌 Delta brain waves are associated with deep sleep and have been observed in advanced meditators, potentially suggesting sleep-like benefits during meditation. 11:57 🤓 Theta waves are linked to relaxation, creativity, and focus, making them common in meditation, especially in more experienced meditators. 13:22 🧐 Alpha waves are associated with alertness and focus and are widely seen in meditators, aligning with the focus and awareness training in meditation. 14:42 😓 Beta waves, linked to wakefulness and analytical thought, may be reduced during meditation to promote emotional stability. 16:07 🧲 Gamma waves, associated with perception and experience, are rare in meditation but have been observed in experienced meditators during heightened awareness. My experience with practicing TM, I learned to "walk on water". That's a metaphor for expressing grace when someone is trying to piss you off, like someone that you easily discern is a narcissistic psychopath and you just respond to them with endless passivity. If a situation doesn't work out as you planned, rather than feeling the negative of failure you immediately start looking for another opportunity, even if it means doing something completely different. However, I wish these guys could explain to me the moment when I was in meditation when I heard a loud pop sound in my head coupled with a bright flash at which in the peripherals there were violet squiggly lines that looked like lightening all around and the entire top of my head was tingling like crazy. I was so filled with that "elation" that I leaped up out of that lotus position, screaming that I understood everything at that moment. The scariest part though was that I lived on the top of a 15-story apartment building with a balcony, and for a brief moment, I felt like jumping over the railing. That was back in 2012.

For meditation to work, the brain must be at total peace. Doing other tasks does not count as meditation, though it is not a bad thing to do things such as knitting to truly heal the heart, but meditation is a skill by itself, complex and thorough to understand, but once grasped, the benefits are great.

This was such an incredible video bringing the science behind meditation, but actually visually expressing its impacts- often something we can only speculate for ourselves, as we can't look at the changes in our physiology without heading to a hospital or x-ray/scanning practice. Side note.. to blow one's mind open!!! I am sure you've seen those memes that question if we are living in the brain of a being that is our universe- with the map of the universe looking rather similar to the interior of the brain- energetically speaking... well I remember watching a documentary on Gamma Ray Bursts in the universe. These were extremely rare events during the beginning of the universe where, yes huge bursts of Gamma rays would happen randomly throughout the universe. It got me thinking when you spoke of Gamma Ray bursts within our mind at peak periods, it got me thinking... What if we are part of a being of some description (as funny as it may sound) and the Gamma Ray bursts within are observed outwardly. As above, so below... After all, there are some uncanny correlations between patterns and activity within the body and that of the Earth and beyond- The Universe. So I'll leave it there... thank you for stimulating my mind, and also bringing much peace to my mind around meditation, something I've practised for over a decade. So grateful you did this video! It made my day!!!

Try a CHOCOLATE meditation! Break up a thin chocolate bar into small squares between the size of your thumbnail and a postage stamp. Before putting it in your mouth, SMELL it. Can you tell what KIND it is (dark, milk, salted, caramel, white)? Place it on your tongue BUT DON'T BITE/CHEW. What temperature is it? Cold? Room temp? What TEXTURE does it have? Can you feel the embossed pattern or the thickness of the edges? What about the smell now? Has it changed? How? Feel it melt and soften. How is it spreading in your mouth, over your tongue, to your teeth, finally reaching the roof of your mouth. As it spreads, how does the flavor change? Saltier? Sweeter? More bitter? Did your saliva glands kick in and flood your mouth with wetness? Allow yourself to slowly swallow a little bit at a time. Observe the change in texture and taste. How long does it last before it's all gone. Now repeat with another piece. You'll be astounded at the difference in your perception of the temperature and texture of the second piece. This meditation is HYPER focusing. You'll forget all about outside sounds, tho you may be aware of the wet, smacking sounds of the chocolate as your tongue moves it around your mouth. Your monkey mind will settle down. Your emotions will mellow out. You'll be less aware of other body sensations or pains. I highly recommend it.

I just want to shout out to IHA and commend the fantastic work you are doing in bringing seemingly obscure knowledge to non scientists in an accessible manner. One point of caution to meditators though. While it’s useful to know these different scientific explanations, it is important to keep in mind that these are the second person view of a first person experience. As a meditator we have the capacity to have experience (I.e. consciousness) and we have varying experiences (I.e. mental activity). To a scientist this appears as brain waves on an EEG or a FMRI. Both are valid, but the distinction needs to be made. It’s important not to sit down to meditate and then tell yourself “now my thetha waves are likely to begin”. That very analytical approach prevents you from meditating! Nonetheless, thanks for the video! Great job!

Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.

first of all I thank you a lot for this explanation. I'm also trying to concentrate my mind on my own body and to see as it is. thus I was able to stop running thoughts and focus on the body. some joy appeared and relaxation occurred. according to your perspective what kind of development have I achieved sir.

I do something called wake-initiated lucid dreaming, where you relax your mind and body enough to fall asleep but stay conscious during the process. The goal is to let your mind wander and ultimately shut down for sleep, but retain just a modicum of awareness to hang onto so you can avoid going fully unconscious. Then you just sit or stand up, and you're in a dream.I am so interested in seeing what happens to the brain during it.

So much great information that it deserves a replay ❤ I enjoy learning with your channel 😊 I will review your videos to see if there is a video about the brain of a genius/ high IQed individuals vs. a non-high IQed individual. Just in case you haven't done one, would you possibly create a video surrounding this sudject? Thanks in advance ❤

Point of clarification: alpha is not considered a posterior dominant rhythm... The posterior dominant rhythm that occurs when you close your eyes (the idling of your visual cortex When your eyes are closed but you're not asleep) is in the alpha range. But alpha is as you mentioned found throughout the brain. It just so happens that in an adult brain there is a gradient of speed that is maintained as long as the brain is healthy. So you do tend towards the alpha band as you move backwards. But there are other phenomena in the alpha range that are occurring elsewhere. You can also have slower (theta range) activity in the occipital lobe That is normative for children. It is colloquially still called the PDR But technically doesn't meet the criteria for it because it's too slow and is a different phenomenon.

I have C-PTSD that causes ticks that turn into seizures that I cannot control so you're questioning as to is it globaly or just one region, I find interesting, especially since I have seizure episodes in my sleep🥴Genetic & environmental factors from childhood play a huge role but if you train your brain on where those signals need to go, definitely the name of the game for me😅

What type of meditation, do you know Dzogchen meditation? What is the difference between meditation and contemplation? What does your internal dialogue look like during this ? Do You know how to induce the theta state and the rest and most importantly, how to remain conscious in all brain modes?

0:14: 💡 This video discusses how meditation can influence the brain and the entire human body. 2:42: 🧠 An EEG can measure voltage fluctuations in different layers of the brain, including the thalamus, and detect synchronized groups of neurons firing in rhythmic patterns known as brain waves. 5:43: 💪 AG1 is a comprehensive supplement that can replace multiple daily supplements, supports gut health, and provides effortless daily nutrition. 8:33: 🧠 The video discusses the observation of non-REM and REM delta waves in specific regions of the brain during sleep and meditation. 11:26: ! The video discusses different brain waves and their association with executive functions, alertness, and processing incoming stimuli. 14:28: 🧠 Different brain waves have different frequencies and are associated with various mental states. 17:31: 🧠 The video discusses binaural beats and their potential to induce a meditative state, but acknowledges the lack of scientific evidence supporting their effectiveness.
