As a fellow chinese scooter rider with over 13,000 miles logged so far I congratulate you on your trip and thank you for showing the ability of our scoots!!
Slow and easy. Now that's the way to see the country, experience the wide open spaces of America!! Sometimes keeping it simple is so much more freeing. Well done.
That's awesome. I have a 50cc challenger and I definitely know the struggles of going up hills lol. I wish I had someone who had the balls to do this with me. Thanks for the bringing me along the journey. Keep being amazing
THIS was an amazing adventure, the memories of which will last a lifetime. The line in the movie "Larry Crowne" with Tom Hanks where Talia states that "A MAN ON A SCOOTER CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING" rings true for you fellows. Very, very well done. An Inspiration, indeed. It speaks well, also, of the durability of the inexpensive 50 cc scooter. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
Men I love it I love it I love it! Came across this vid and just can't take the smile of my face. The cape was my favorite part and father and son interaction great job.
@@exsleepyink One night I was camping on a hill above a small town, someone was shooting a gun in an apartment complex near by and came looking around. Once they figured out it wasn't me, they left me alone. I took the smallest roads possible. I also rode a 49cc Honda Spree from Mobile, Al to the UP of Michigan. Back Waters and Back Roads Just watched. Pretty awesome. Do you have any of your route from MN to NC? Here on LI the Suffolk County Police love giving tickets and making quotas. Are there any comprehensive resources that show you routes that don’t go above 40, for the country? I’ve exist seen the scooter’s across America gps route
When me and the family went on vacation to Myrtle Beach me and my son rented 50CC scooters and rode all over the city it was awesome I ended up buying me a scooter about a year later
I thought I wouldn't like your video - but I did . If I could I would rather go cross country like you guys did with a small engine than a full size motorcycle . Lots more challenging
Great story, just bought a scooter myself after hiring a couple on Greek holidays and being impressed with the easy ride. Thanks for sharing the fun, oh and the start up noise is the sticking starter motor. Had some old cars in the past and they were notorious for it.
Awesome video, reli happy wen I see videos like just shows what fun can be had on smaller capacity motors when traveling.gona do something like one day..thanks mutch respect bro
WOW!! Wonderful video. I think I am going to go out and my sons and I some scooters and do a cross country trip now. I'm in oregon, so maybe we'll make Savannah, Georgia our destination. Thank you very much for the entertainment and inspiration!
GREAT video, gents! I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of it, and was riveted. I will never look at my Chinese Lifan 110 GY-3 (Honda CT-70 clone) the same way again. I've had one in the garage for years, and just ride it around the block, thinking I don't want to get stranded anywhere if I take it too far. I also have a vintage HONDA MB5 50cc bike, which i'm contemplating taking to Alaska and back, from Ohio (not really).
cool video I have wanted to go across the usa on my 50cc scoot for a long time people don't realize how dependable some of the Chinese scooter can be I put 3,500 miles on a gy6 scooter in 3 month but I bet you guys put well over that in less time really cool look forward to more videos like this :)
That is awesome would love to know more about what kind of bikes you guys have and what modifications you've done to them I now own my first scooter ever a 2018 Honda PCX 150 I'm loving it
You guys really proved the quality of some of these Chinese bikes! I have been keeping up with the CT70 replicas on various forums, so was not surprised how well the SSR/Skyteam did, but was more impressed by your $100 used BMS!
It's funny how you come across things. My son is 10 years old and I'm starting the process of researching what is pretty much parallel to what this father and son has done. I can hear the happiness in both your voices. Have you made any trips since this? I've been in love with scooters since I was a little kid...seeing some other kids with a Yamaha Razz in the late 80's my obsession was born!
You guys are awesome ,I would like for you guys to come to Brazil and we will go across South America and then towards North Americal riding on a motorized bicycles, wow ,and that'll be fun ......l
Remember reading a book years ago, about two scooter riders doing a cross country trip from NY to california back in 1964.., those little engines must get fairly heated..
Just seen your vid. Pretty cool. The screeching sound you are hearing on start up is made by the starter motor sticking. They can be rebuilt if you are mechanically inclined. Otherwise, replace with new.
I am 77 been ridding from 14 years old, never owned a car. Vietnam vet have ridden 1000 CC bikes Harly's to Moto Guzzies and 30 others now ride a Kymco Like 200i and 2012 and have never looked back on those heavy bikes. These can go anywhere and mine has been super reliable and is very fun to ride. Finally in 2012 getting a wind shield for it. Kingman AZ PLan on ridding many more years. At 77 just renewed my tags for 5 more years. Beer and scooters keep me young. Of course I live in a 55 plus park and everyone thinks I am nuts, but what the hell I am having fun. A men.
Screwed that up I meant 2021, my how time flys, will get the wind shield in a few days from E-Bay 6/20/2021, someone get my another beer. Sometimes I have just to much fun.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, having bought my first scooter ("Genuine Buddy 50", made in Taiwan, the motor scooter capital of the world, the "Genuine" company headquartered in Chicago), a couple of weeks ago. My scooter is a two stroke, derestricted (no speed governors), and though it's certainly not broken in yet, I coast at 45 mph, plenty good for neighborhood jaunts. I am thrilled for you that your "bikes" made it all that distance without breaking down. I sometimes get an 'arugah!" noise when I press my starter switch, and the dealer says that it is nothing to be concerned about. How, by what means that is, did you plan your trip to avoid highways with minimum speed limits above your bike's capabilities? I'd like to know that because you really have encouraged me to travel beyond my immediate neighborhood. Best wishes!
The sound you are hearing on start up is the Bendix drive starting to fail. Usually it is attached to the starter. Sometimes some light oil (wd40 or pb blaster) will cure it, but if it is too worn out the oil will prevent it from locking and thus not starting. My recommendation is get a new starter. Aside from that, awesome trip!
I own a scooter and the gas tank holds approximately 1.5 gals or about 150 miles. You didn't say anything about how easy it was to get fuel especially in the desert. I really like your video and I can relate since I try to commute on my genuine buddy 125 daily in a large Midwest city.
That noise when starting sounds like the starters solenoid is beginning to go bad. The solenoid function is to push out a gear to engage the electric starter motor to the gasoline engines flywheel to turn the gas engine, then retract /disengage the gear when the gasoline engine starts.
that is so cool!! did you stay mostly w/the two lane roads? because i know your not allowed to take them on the interstates here in tenn., i have 2 scooters, a honda ruckus & honda metropolitan-i love them What did you all ride?
Great story. A tip about the Amish, most of them can be quite friendly and helpful most of the time but on Sundays they are more serious and the kids in the buggies probably won't wave to you.
Your starter-motor gear is missing engaging with the its mating gear, and the sound you hear is grinding gears of the starter motor gears engagement assembly, or you are having a worn out bearings in your starter motor assembly. It may be fixed with oil in the proper location but the bearing in the starter motor are probably sealed unless there is a grease fitting or a location for one for which you will need to place a grease fitting in the threaded hole for it.
I would love to know your route...what roads did you use that allowed the scooters. I would love to go to Tahoe from the bay area ....but not on the freeways.
