Well i do agree strikers should often be close to the penalty area facing goal, dropping low and going wide is very important too. Defences these days are very tight so if you try to camp infront, the defence will mark you with 4 defenders. Take Haaland, he's been less effective this season beacause of it and when he plays free and roams around the pitch and touches the ball more it helps him score more by displacing the defense by making them follow him deeper when he pushes low, then when the defender is distracted he can make his runs with lots of space.

If you are not getting the ball, then you need to mix it up by coming short on occasions. Don't make it easy to be marked.
