Thank you for watching this! This is the second video in a series where I analyze and apply compositional techniques from Claus Ogerman's composition "Symbiosis", performed by Bill Evans.
I do not own these recordings/music, nor do I claim to. This is purely for educational benefit. I do this for the love of music, I do not monetize my videos.
This video, although short, is packed with a lot of information. I provided three examples, one being one I arranged myself, showing and applying the chorale texture used by Ogerman in this piece.
If you like this, make sure to let me know in the comments, and to subscribe. I have already received some nice feedback from the first video in the series.
Again, thank you for your dear support.

One of my top ten albums. Ever. I studied the score extensively in the ‘90’s and it still remains an influence on my own compositions. Ogerman is one of the few modern composers that has an instantly recognizable sound. Frank Sinatra’s “Girl from Ipanema”, Freddie Hubbard’s “Little Sunflower” feat. Al Jerreau…. The first four bars give it away. Alto flutes, low tessitura… Sublime!

Thanks Ethan! This is indeed a haunting, beautiful piece full of complexities, seesawing between intellectual rigor and raw emotion. The fact that you're sharing your insights with us fills a much-needed void for students and music lovers alike!

Really enjoyed this. I must admit I had never heard of Ogerman until today and have a poor understanding of jazz and composition, so I found this interesting.
