Angra was really massive in France between 1995 and 2000. For exemple, when they toured opening for Stratovarius everywhere else, in France, Stratovarius was opening for Angra. I still love all their albums from the first, Angels cry, to Rebirth; a golden era for this band.
First of all, I love the metal news videos as this is a great roundup of all of hard rock and metal news. Thanks for mentioning Brian May of Queen's minor stroke as this confirms to me that Queen are a hard rock band and not just a "rock" band. I don't know how much of a fan you are of Queen, but they are among my favourites and I am glad that Brian is okay. Next, great to hear LINKEN PARK on the channel as I also was not a fan of them for many years. However, I always respected them and followed them from a short distance through Radio and album world premiers. Emily is definitely a great choice to replace Chester and hearing the clips that you played, answered potential questions I had, about whether she could sing certain songs like Crawling. Keep up the great work on the channel over all and keep up these metal digests as we need a place to hear news about all rock and metal, as radio is no longer taking the ball and running with it.
I understand your comment about replacing an iconic singer. We’ve all had those Blaze Bayley v Bruce Dickinson debates with Iron Maiden, then there’s Joey Belladonna v John Bush for Anthrax, and William Duvall replacing Layne Staley (RIP) for Alice in Chains. All tough gigs but I actually quite like John era Anthrax and William era AIC.
Indifferent about Linkin Park. Good on them for carrying on. I was able to see Angra at BB Kings in NYC in 2015. The Rick Beato interview with Yngwie is very insightful.
Love your metal digest videos. I recently saw Battlebeast live in Canada and was blown away. Any news about power and/or symphonic metal is always appreciated.
I was gonna fly from LA to Koln for Scorpions next week. So bummed but still going to visit Germany anyway so we’ll have a good time. Best of luck Matthias! And still loving these digests!
I like the metal news editions. Please give any info on the Judas Priest rocka rolla remastered cd that is coming out. Ian hill mentioned it recently saying it’s coming out in the coming weeks. Thanks.
always loved Devildriver . they put out some epic albums , the fury of our maker's hand , last kind words , pray for villains, beast and winter kills are all solid .
I understand your notion regarding Linkin' Park 2.0 needing to have went with a female vocalist to not have any hints of trying to properly replace Chester Bennington, however I disagree with it. I will bring up a particular example which initially supports your notion but than evolves to outright defy it. That example being Nightwish after Tarja Turunen got kicked out of the banned after Once world tour. Of course Tarja Turunen didn't pass away, like Chester Bennington, however her dismissal from the band did cause a massive rift within the Nightwish fan base. Annette Olzon was the initial replacement for Tarja and she absolutely went through hell in her short tenure with the band. Many fans absolutely hated her for daring to replace Tarja and for having a very different vocal style at that. Others critiqued everything about her from her musical skills to her looks to everything in between, she even got a whole lot of death threats from insane Nightwish fans who couldn't stand her for whatever reason. Needless to say Annette didn't last long with Nightwish, which was very understandable considering the welcome she received and the hell she went through over there. However after Annette left Floor Jansen came and was an immediate hit with the absolute majority of Nightwish fans and continues to do extremely well with them to this day. My point is that there's always a risk that the person replacing an icon like Tarja Turunen, or Chester Bennington in this case, would receive the Annette Olzon treatment, however that's not at all a necessity and that person could instead fit right in with both the band and the fans in the same way Floor Jansen did. Now, would that situation have changed had Floor Jansen been the initial replacement instead of Annette? I absolutely can't rule out that possibility of course, but I'd say probably not. The most diehard Tarja fans would have probably still given her some crap but it would have been an absolute minority, unlike in Annette's case, and she would have instantly found a lot more support than backlash. At this point it's painfully clear to everyone involved that Annette was simply a poor choice of a replacement for Tarja Turunen(and it was clear from the beginning, no hind sight needed), but it's also clear that Floor Jansen was a terrific replacement for Tarja, and that too was clear right from the start(again no hind sight needed). That is to say that when replacing such icons in a band it's all the more important for the band in question to find a suitable replacement of the same caliber as the one s/he is replacing rather than needing to avoid the comparisons altogether by choosing someone completely different from the former icon.
Well I can say that the scorpions will release a new album next year and in that album genre will be special guests And a new world tour with a massive stage
allegedly Angra's former singer Edu Falaschi was in the run to replace Bruce Dickinson when he left Maiden...Don't know if that is true, but it would be cool if you could find out and let us know more about everyone else who Maiden might have considered at the time
Maybe that’s what they can do if Matthias can’t recover for playing guitar fully?? (Which would be sad…) But, I know possibly Michael and Rudolph have been having issues lately 😢
Can you make a video about x-wild? And Marius Danielsen legend of Valley Doom, it's a metal opera and has a song/track Whit Daniel Heiman and Michael Kiske that is epic and all the 3 albums are good And one about metallium
Never was an LP fan but I respected Chester & his writing/vocals. With that said, I have zero respect for Mike & the remaining LP members! All this is is a cash grab! They know they can get enough people into this farce of LP just to hear Chesters songs! The majority know that no one can bring the heart & emotions to those songs like Chester did! Taking a page out of Zeppelin’s book was the only real thing they could have done! Lose a member like that, CALL IT A CAREER FOR THE BAND! This girl they have can’t even get her own band recognize after all these years! That shows you right there that she’s not all that good! Halestorm has out sold Dead Sara with just one single!
Her vocals are not good! She can not bring the heart & emotions that Chester did! 90% of music fans never heard of her until Mike decided to use LP as a money machine!
I'm glad to see Linkin Park is back they sound amazing like always seeing Mike leave devil driver is tough but I hope they find another great guitarist
I notice in most videos there are prolific views on some but very few likes. Please like this and other videos that you view (if you do like them). Helps the channels a lot.
Deep Purple. I've been listening to Deep Purple. New and old stuff. Still a great band. They played here in New Jersey a few days ago. Sounds great.. )^_-)/ As far as Metal goes. Here in the United States Rock music is pretty much no where. Europe and South America are where Metal and Rock are still thriving. Hip Hop and Pop are way more popular here in the United States.
In Europe there are radio stations dedicated solely to metal and hard rock. In the US and Canada it's basically just classic rock radio playing old stuff, some of it not very heavy with some pop stuff in between as well. You can still hear some metal played occassionally on college radio and small local radio stations, depending on the DJ, but I don't think there is a dedicated radio station for metal unless it's a pirate one (talking about FM, not internet radio).
Can't stand all the old "alternative" bands now wanting to be called metal, they said it back then, "they are an alternative to metal". True Metal people want to rock not Posse- Manowar! \m/
Linkin Park like Limp Bizkit/Korn and every other band of that ilk-Ilk not Elk,that`s a Moose-are not now or have ever been "Metal"..Please stop saying they are.
The REAL problem is the music critics and all these shitty, gatekeeping NON-musicians who think that we should actually give a fuck about their bullshit, hipster opinions.
