Remember when this came out. I watched on MTV over and over crying. I remember the real footage and the hope in my heart. True unity. I have a piece of the wall! Ronald Reagan, standing in front of the wall, “Gorbachev ! Tear down this wall!“. Gorbachev, Reagan, and John Paul, the second working together! Imagine generations of families, reunited! How many years we had spent at school doing drills for nuclear fallout! Brings Hope me for future now.

You can't impose a leader or even a system on a country, especially one like Russia. Many other former communist countries transitioned to a democratic system, the difference being that Russia feels it's better than them because it has nuclear weapons and a big army and used to subjugate surrounding countries to serve it. Russia had all the natural resources and even when investment to become fully integrated into the world order but instead it's leaders and even oligarchy wants to go back to the past. If it hadn't been Putin it would been someone else. In the West we have people like this, Trump and Boris Johnson spring to mind, who want to turn the clock back, the only difference being we do have some checks and balances, although I guess they thought that in the early 1930s in Germany.

Great reaction Salvo! As a longtime Scorpions fan, AND a person with German heritage, this song touched a nerve! I was in my early teens when the Wall fell and the Iron Curtain collapsed. This song became a beacon of hope to a unified Europe! Klaus Meine(cl-ow-se mine-a, if said phonetically) penned a beautiful piece, not to mention his immaculate whistling (seriously, try hitting the notes he does!). Powerful ballad - to all of humanity! Cheers.

The line that always gets me is when Klaus Meine sings "like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell for Peter Meine" then the guitar solo starts. The way I understand that is he is singing for a relative stuck in East Berlin.

I was 15 in 1989, when the Berlín wall fell. I had a basic idea of how historically important that and the Perestroika was. The thing I was really aware and care about with all that was that the fear of being blown-up any minute by a nuclear blast was over.

Good stuff, man. Klaus Meine has one of the classic rock voices, perfect for ballads. When I first heard this song on the radio, I teared up. I still do sometimes. Now, though, I think it's because the hope for the future that the song and we ourselves envisioned didn't last. We went from an all too brief time of togetherness back to almost the same old Cold War with only slightly altered players.

It has lasted in Germany, and many other former communist Central and Eastern European countries. Russia was always going to be a problem wanting to get back to being a superpower despite not having the economy to back this up. I don't know what more the West could do, but I fear more for democracy in the US than I do in Germany.

The last wall which you saw coming down. Was from Rodger Walters concert, after the Berlin Wall came down he came up with the idea recreating” the Wall ( Pink Floyd album)” with various artist, as he had split from Pink Floyd. The scorpions played at that concert. They sang in the flesh, and run like hell with Rodger. Van Morrison , sinead O’Connor , Brian Adam’s to name just 3. There are clips on RU-vid. Delivering mindblowing vocals for 50 years. I found China White on your vid list - that might not be the best example for his vocals 😂 If you want to be impressed, to listen to older live versions from the late 70s of In Trance, or We'll Burn the Sky. His voice blows you out of the water. Or Send me an Angel, Always Somewhere, When the Smoke is Going Down. Incredible voice.
