Scorcesse will have Robert Deniro play a tough twenty year old again. He doesn't like to be around young people? What was that? The guy hobbled around like an old man the whole movie! He didn't grow old. His face just stopped being shiny. Tarantino is superior to Scorcesse because Scorcesse never writes. any director that writes too is automatically superior.

My problem with Death Proof is that it was too bloated in the first half, spent a lot of time setting up the characters in the first group to kill them. ETh dialogue for Death Proof wasn't as good as his other films.. or maybe I'm missing something about how women communicate? You're comparing Scorsese to QT on why one wants to quit at #10 and the other keeps making films into his old age and that's not a fair comparison ... Scorsese is an ARTIST and a true filmmaker while Tarantino is a WRITER. As an artist, one cannot limit themselves to a certain number. QT can because he's no artist. He's a writer by heart who transcend the limits of the movie director and embodies the spirit of a writer. Scorsese on the other hand, heralded as he is, tends to lean into the stories of others, often adapting novels and real life naratives into some if the best work in cinema of all time. Obviously there are striking differences in their respective creative approaches.

I think Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs, and Jackie Brown are his best films (at least my favourites of his), but I agree he is quite egotistical and he thinks every movie he puts out is gold, and loves to hear hosts of podcasts sing praises of his recent pictures. I didn't have a strong response to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Hateful Eight, or Django Unchained, however in those movies there were scenes or sequences and performances that I thought were great. One podcaster said he thought OUATIH was the best film he's ever made, and if I remember right, Tarantino said that he thought so too, and said how it was a lovely thing of him to say. He often talks about how Pulp Fiction was flawed or downplays it, but I think it's his best and "Basterds" his second best. But since you mentioned his ego, I couldn't help but notice his ego coming out more in his recent films, like giving himself a role of an Australian character in Django, doing voiceover work in Hateful Eight and reading that part like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, and the whole voiceover bit with Kurt Russell in "Hollywood" towards the end, had the sense of when Tarantino was writing it, he was thinking "oh this is great storytelling." I think it would be great if he finished with something along the lines of Pulp Fiction, I don't know what it would be, but something bold and in current time or more recent time, not something from a past era.

Kill Bill was one movie. It was all shot at the same time. The decision to split it into 2 volumes was Weinstein’s decision, since he wasn’t going to release a 4-hour movie (initially, it was only supposed to be 3 hours), but he couldn’t make QT edit it down, since he contractually had final cut. So, they shot an epilogue for Volume 1 and a prologue for Volume 2.

You can argue what you like with Tarantino, it’s what he sees as perfect that he cares about, not you. Movie no ten will be 3 hours of him touching feet. Scorsese has done some great movies but I’m sick of him complaining about comic book movies and demanding they stop. Try making a movie that people DO want to see. He’s not the cinema police, they’ll live their cycle and fade out of cinemas just like his gangster movies. It’s brat behaviour. In fact quite embarrassing at his age, having tantrums. We’ll have plenty of cycles of shite between good stuff for as long as we have cinemas. The Irishman wasn’t a bad movie but it was hardly his crowning glory either, so his cinema wisdom isn’t relevant.

Maybe it's not really about the 10th film and it's more about he wants to have a private life like a normal human being. I am one of the biggest fans of his. In fact I think I've watched hateful eight at least a thousand times. But he deserves to have a family life and a life devoid of crazy. I'm proud of him

Just say you're not a Tarantino fan or you think he's overrated. You can nitpick all you want but the guy is right. He doesn't want to be the old guy like Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola making s***** movies.

i think the fear for Tarantino is that he will fall out of pop culture relevance in his mind and that knowledge is the basis of his entire style. If his references are too old for people to get his films will mean nothing. Now i agree, the 10 films is dumb and personally i think he needs to be working while he can. However i think The Critic was a horrible choice for a final film and it could have well made him seem jaded in his retirement

The older I get, the more I'm impressed with Tarantino's later works. Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained are up there with Pulp Fiction as his best works in my eyes. While I'm sure he has his reasons, I don't get the 10 movie limitation he set himself. Namely because it sounds like the sort of bravado you say in your youth, and you'd think as he aged and reflected on his career that he'd realise the lessons he learnt about storytelling and filmmaking that he could now apply. The only positive I can take from it is it means he's choosy with what he wants to achieve, and I think the quality of his latter work (Death Proof aside) reflects someone who is taking care to get it right.

Their sensibilities are completely different. Scorsese aims for realism and grittiness, not to mention an interest in the existential antihero (or at least he has on occasion in the last 20 years). Tarantino builds everything under a pop culture tableaux and homage-heavy stories. Nothing wrong with that but QT is significantly different in every way from Scorsese.

I actually think Once upon a time in hollywood is OVER RATED and a misfire. Death proof yes was disappointing from a story aspect as well. Tarantino's other films yes are brilliant. I hope he backs off of this 10 film limit. Also, even his best films up to date are missing that one little bit of HEART. For example the scene in Boogie Nights where Mark Wahlberg's character is down and out and wanders to Burt Reynold's character's house and with humility asks for help, and is met with a warm hug from Burt. That scene was so moving, and something that is missing from Tarantino films. So yes, Tarantino can LEARN FROM OTHER MOVIES.

Tarantino wants to go back to writing. It takes a lot to write and then make the film as well. Christopher Nolan's Oscar was out of hype. It was a terrible film and misleading. He was not honest about Oppenheimer. He basically turned a book to film sticking to basic. He added nothing to the story. He was desperate after TENET and he had compromise. He is a conformist coward.

I've thought for years that QT is almost as autistic and/or as OCD as me, just wasn't really diagnosed like that back in the day (I wasn't diagnosed till my 30's and only then cause I pressed for answers with my doctor, and I'm younger than him), but he has so many of the signs. Some of us have a bad tendency to really latch on to stuff and have a hard time shaking it even when everyone around us can see it's hurting us, or at least inconvenienced. Yeah, can't get behind religious movies, even if Marty is behind it.

Death Proof was not a misfire, it was just as good as any movie he's ever made, it just wasn't intentionally as convoluted as his other stuff. And Quentin's movies haven't declined in quality either, OUATIH was the most beautiful movie he ever made and delivered everything it set out to give

I think that would be good, I'd definitely prefer it over The Movie Critic project he nearly was going to do. He was the one talking about doing it anyhow in interviews, I think with Charlie Rose, where the daughter from the first revenge fight comes back to avenge her mother's death. I think there would be a massive appeal for audiences and fans, the curiosity alone of how it would play out, what would happen.

I have to give it to Quentin about his self-imposed limit… I think he knows it is true of himself that he simply isn’t going to keep cranking out good stuff. And to become a hack later in life the way that Spielberg or Coppola have is unthinkable. Scorsese is just an exception… and Tarantino knows that he isn’t directing at that level.
