Martin Scorsese presents a new facet in his extensive oeuvre with what may be his last film: Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio are seen in their darkest roles. We are in the land of the Osages in 1920s Oklahoma: The Osages became very rich through oil discoveries, which arouses covetousness and envy among the whites. William Hale (De Niro) and his nephew Ernest (DiCaprio) want to get the land rights through marriage and sinister crimes. Ernest will marry Mollie (Lily Gladstone), by no means only out of calculation, and then a creeping crime takes its course. Scorsese, however, not only tells the story of exploited indigenous people, but also a lot about fictional exploitation. More on this by Wolfgang M. Schmitt.
