Hello viewers, This video shows how to use SCOTCHLOCK AKA SPLICE CONNECTOR AKA PLIER TAP connector in automobile while fitting any extra lights or horns. This is from KENNEDY Tools (UK). This can be used just in case if any stock wire is broken. Also can be used for stock replacement joints which generally gets damaged due to deposition.

If you're doing this to illuminate running lights on a trailer or a boat trailer, cover everything up with several coats of liquid electrical tape to make things waterproof & weatherproof. They make "waterproof" versions of these things, but there's no slot in the side to insert the longer wire that's the main (brown) wire.

So i will be using these to install "led sequential light strips" on my MK6 golf. Just to clarify as im not 100% sure on what to do, does the power cable in the car (connected to the light) go straight through then the wire from the strip itself go in the end where its blocked off? Thankyou

I have a question. Can you push in the first wire through the side opening? Or do you have to only use the front and back opening?
@charquail
@charquail 9 лет назад
It's purpose is to slide in the original wire from the side since that wire is always connected on both ends. This way you don't have to cut it to splice in. You just slide in the original from the side, insert your new wire you need to parallel the signal to, and press it in.

I need to connect three wires between a battery and motor on an electric scooter. The battery is; 36v, 5200mah, 187 watt-hours and the motor is 300w min to 700w max. A person told me that the connectors would need to withstand 30a. I'm not sure if that is correct, but will the red scotch lock withstand 30a ??
@MechAutoClinic

30AMPs i doubt. it may burn. you need lugs for that which can be crimped properly.

Cbmech why did you replace them instead of wiring it properly? they are not a nightmare if not installed by an imbecile, they work perfectly in the right applications. mine never failed.. been years? proof right there. they are especially good in hard to reach areas which dont come in to contact with contaminants such as water etc
@cbmech2563
@cbmech2563 7 лет назад
mk Ultra I did replace them with butt connecters filled with silicone di-electric grease .on a trash truck there is no such thing as a good place to use them . anybody that would use them on a trash truck isn't much of a mechanic . High vibration , pushing the amps to the high end of the wire size capacity and a scotch lock is a recipe for disaster . they were invented for u haul to f up your tail light wiring . To my mind they are the last refuge of the lazy wanna be mechanic

In the centre it has metal plate or chip which has got two slots as in Guillotine which cuts or slits the insulation and touches the strand. The main upper plastic body is insulation.thanks.

corrosion,corrosion and corrosion. They might just pass for speaker wire connection. But outside of a vehicle they only last a year or two. Better off solder with dual core heatshrink.

These things should be banned! Every installer uses them and for the first year they're fine. Then all of the intermittent problems start. Every repair I have done has come down to one of these shitty connections. Cut the wire, solder it and heat shrink it if you want it to last.
