For sure , but the gap's clearly wider between to the 2 national sides now. For example , most current England players are Champions league regulars playing for some of Europe's top clubs . No longer the case for Scotland , far from it unfortunately.

The Heysel tragedy happened only four days after this game was played. The 1985 Scotland v England game was originally meant to be at Wembley but was moved to Hampden as the authorities in London were worried about the chances of crowd trouble during what was a bank holiday weekend. There were several serious incidents of hooliganism at matches in England during the early months of 1985 which culminated in the Heysel riot.

They made their mark and were enormously outnumbered, so they knew what they were doing. Game lads 👍

Loved watching this and all the '80s legends. And these were the guys who managed to make the team for their respective countries. There were great players who struggled to get near the squads.

Glasgow City centre was smashed to fuck and Scotland were either run ragged or got totally battered. England were near the bottom of the terrace and then they kicked off not long after the match began and started wading in to the Scottish. They got cordoned off and yes they did need somewhat of an escort when they were eventually let out!!

Nah, Scotland technically beat England 1-0 at Wembley in 1999 in the second leg of the Euro 2000 playoffs. Though England won 2-1 in aggregate to go through.
