I live not far from this and the many other bings which are still there in West Lothian. Many of those which have gone were used as a base layer for motorways etc. In the 1950s and 60s some guys with foresight bought them on the cheap and became millionaires selling them by the truck load to the road builders. My first though every time I see them is "what massive holes there must be underground for all that spoil to have come from", and yet there has never been any serious subsidence, at least to my knowledge. Great video Scott and thanks for giving me my first view from the top.
I've been up Greendykes a year or so back. The excuse was I was doing a presentation on the shale oil industry at the time. Truth told I just find it engrossing that there are these novel man-made substrates that stand out from the surrounding countryside as something like an alien landscape. The bikers were there too. Got a few pictures of them cutting around.
Ive seen that rock many times when ive visited Edinburgh and i never knew you could climb up it. Great views up at the top of the summit. Great Video. Hope you got down safe 👍
Oh ar. That was good I have passed this many time when I use to live in Glasgow and as travel to and from Edinburgh. I also use to think of Ayres rock in Australia when I passed it. Great video
I was around there today so disappointing ,that they are now shrouded with trees or in other cases being removed or levelled and built on, one company is actually removing the shale ,under the guise of "Recycling our past" these bastians of our past deserve so much more
