Just to say that I'm loving your reviews. They're one of the few fly rod reviews I trust on youtube because the moment someone takes the time to learn to cast well they should then realise that many reviews are done by charlatans who can't really cast to a hight standard. Enjoy your reviews and your unselfconscious proficient casting.

Daniel, I just brought home a new 9ft. 7wt. Centric today because your 3 rod test cleared the air for me, showed me just what this rod is. It is a 35 to 105 foot rod with tip control finesse inside 45 and the backbone for 105. I have the 9'6" 6wt Radian (my do-everything freshwater rod) and 8, 9 and 10wt Meridians but had a hole at 7wt. It's too hard to find a 7wt. Meridian anymore so I was looking at NRX+, Sage X and Burkheimer. Your review showed me the Centric has just what I was looking for in a 7wt. Yes, I'm a Scott guy but for good reason, right? You are a 100% dedicated fly fisherman and I would love to bring this rod over and hunt sea trout with you one day. Cheers from CA, USA.

If you've ever considered doing 9'6" 6wt shootout between Centric, Nam Ren, Sage R8 and whatever you happen to find in that size, this would be the moment. Nam and Scott have both geared theirs for underhand casting for trout and light salmon angling in Iceland and similar places. So exactly what I'd like. Especially testing all of them with long overhead taper for distance, presentation and accuracy, maybe comparison between SA Trout and Infinity tapers as well as pushing the limits with underhand casting steramers with GL Bullet type line and finding out if there are differences in ideal line weight between different 6wt rods.

How does the Scott Centric 9’ 6wt compare to the Helios 3d 6wt? They reason I ask is I have experience with the 3d 6wt and was looking for a comparison if you could be of any assistance, it would be really appreciated. Thanks the videos are great

Met a fellow angler yesterday, on his way back to his vehicle with his brand new Scott Centric, which had broken off it's tip while casting. Luckily he had his Kilwell Innovation with him, which he was able to use to land a couple of nice brown trout, without any problem!

The SA Volantis line head is 14g for the 5 weight, so is probably a bit heavier than a standard 5 rating. Good review.

Some great perspectives! And, I love that this review comes from a very good caster (which you are). I see so, so, so many rod reviews here on RU-vid where the reviewer is perhaps, at best, a mediocre caster so, to me, it's difficult to have their reviews provide much merit about the rod's performance. Thank you! Scott really has been kicking out some fine rods. I love the beauty and quality of Winston rods but, for me, but the top Scott rods are nearly as nicely finished as the Winstons, and perform (in my opinion) much better. This is not to disparage Winston, but why not buy beauty AND performance with a Scott? That Sage igniter action sounds and personality sounds similar to the old TCR; I remember casting that rod in local competitions, and that rod was a very particular and demanding mistress. It was not very forgiving, but when you found the sweet spot, oh boy were you rewarded! I appreciate your perspectives on the Radian and the Centric. To me it sounds like back in the day when the XP was Sage's #1 rod and then Sage introduced the Z Axis. The XP was much stiffer than the Z, and the Z was smoother and would flex more easily into the blank. My buddies and I, when casting for distance, thought the Z Axis would fold, but it did not! We would be able to eke out a few more feet with the Z than we could with the XP., and the Z was an 'easier' rod to cast, kind of like how you compare the Radian and the Centric. Of note is how much you love your Radian, that you have fished for years, and sum up your review that, if given a choice between these three rods, all things being equal you would take the Centric. That says it all. Thanks so much for putting together this video! P.S. When practicing on the grass, like where you are, I put down on the ground a small 5'x7' plastic tarp I keep in my car for emergency purposes (say, to put down on the ground if I need to change a tire, or put down on the grass as a line catcher, or many things for which a tarp can be handy!). IT folds flat and virtually takes up no space and has been super handy to have available, when needed. :-)

Your enthusiasm is very catching, but a few critical notes. 1) How can you say it's accurate while pounding 18-20 meters of line? Show us with the fly landing on a target! 2) Why not cast short to medium distances (6-10 m) and see/show how the rod feels. Does it give feedback at these distances to say it's also suitable for fishing small to medium size rivers?
@NordicAnglers
@NordicAnglers 4 года назад
Hello ibookje. Those are good points. When you do a video like this often it takes several take to get the best possible speak. I could have done an better job at showing it cast precisely in the video. However I did use it specifically with dryfly and it is quite accurate. I am sorry it that does not show properly in the video

@@NordicAnglers I can understand that making a video is always complicated. Rods like the Centric 'invites' a caster to throw a mile and that's what I ALWAYS see at fly shows. How can one decide to buy a rod (doesn't mind if it's $1000 or $100) by just casting 20m?...

Well i would like to try that one out :) However I must say that i am always sceptical when ever a company proclaims they have designed there rod from a new almost magic material :) All the high end rod companies have access to the same materials and technologies. It is how they shape, taper and cross the fibres that makes up the difference of the high end rods, not some some new magic material that is only one atom thick and only one company have access to. :)

Hello zeissOholic. I use the Volantis 14 gram. that is the #5. This line is produced for Flyfisheurope from Scientific, so it is avaible in Eu, but i dont think you can get it outside Eu Here is a link: nordicanglers.com/en/fly-fishing/fly-lines-shooting-heads-and-more/wf-fly-lines/kystliner.html

@@NordicAnglers 14 grams is comparable to a heavy 8 weight line! I can understand using such a heavy line (a shooting head basically) for coastal fishing where you want to cast as far as possible to cover lots of water but acclaiming that the rod (rated as a 5 weight) casts nice using this line (almost a 9 weight) is a bit strange to say the least...

What line are you throwing on your radian? I own a radian 10’ 7wt, it’s my salmon & sea trout rod for rivers, also doubles as an excellent still water rod from the belly boat. However i think im going to pick up a Scott sector 9’ 8wt for coastal sea trout, and a big streamer rod for trout, and a light pike rod lol

@tonyg3091
@tonyg3091 Год назад
Having tested back to back Radian 1005 and Centric 1005 i totally disagree the Centric is faster. It isn't. Centric is slower. Make no mistake tho-it is a fantastic rod. For real life distances-short and medium it is more precise than the Radian. Radian is better at long distances-the entire line plus some backing out distances. Centric lacks the sonic boom Radian has when loaded properly with lots of line. It is however in my view the better rod for daily use. The difference is not big enough to sell your Radian and buy a Centric but in any other scenario I can wholeheartedly recommend the Centric. It is fantastic rod.
