I can't believe Mat Dickie gave Scott D'amore his wrestling promotion Maple Leaf Wrestling from his game, Wrestling Revolution, and now it's about to be a real wrestling promotion under D'amore, dudes. He's a really courteous game developer.
If it's anything like my playthrough... I cant wait for the moment the new signee tries to drown his female valet in a flooded gym... and then gets forced to pay for her reconstructive surgery. 🤣🤣
Maple Leaf Wrestling was actually originally founded in the 1930s and was even owned by former WWF Commissioner Jack Tunney at one point. The promotion passed through multiple members of the Tunney family before it went under in ‘86
Yeah but he obviously wasn’t a very good Booker. Ever since Callis left, you could tell that the storylines were all “who’s better” based instead of being fueled off actual stories which is why he had the most bland no personality wrestler on the roster (Josh Alexander) as the top champion as he bored people to sleep because he has no gimmick, no personality & can’t cut promos so he just had 7 year long matches that lasted ages just to boost his title reign which ended up injuring him for overworking himself despite it being the only redeeming thing about his title reign, not to mention that he beat title records because of how long it went when he didn’t deserve to, all because Scott sees gold in his eyes when he hears “oh so you’re Canadian too?”.
I wanna see him do the same in AEW. If I'm TK, I'd bring in Scott D'amore as a consultant for AEW & make Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling a official partner. It'd also be wise if TK supplied some of their unused talent like Wardlow, Kommander, Scorpio Sky, etc.
So glad he set the record straight about the AEW/TNA relationship. That was a very interesting interview! Longer than usual but I could have listened all day. Looking forward to Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling! Thank you!
I was waiting for this interview since the day he was let go by TNA because he legit streamlined a haywire promotion and brought respect back to that company. He mended bridges with NJPW and built goodwill. Moose spoke highly of him.
as a TNA fans for so long, it hurt me when he got fired... he has soul of TNA.. in this interview.. he is so enjoys share his opinion and history about TNA.. miss u Scott
I no longer live in Toronto but I'm glad Maple Leaf Wrestling is coming back. My grandmother used to watch it at Maple Leaf Gardens all the way back in the 1930s.
The long-awaited interview, that we've all been waiting for! I first began watching TNA during it's 2004 debut on Fox Sports Net. I stopped watching Impact towards the end of the Hogan Bischoff regime. Ever since Scott D'More along with Don Callis took over late last decade, the quality of wrestling as well as the storylines improved. It's an absolute travesty that Scott was terminated because you can truly tell he's so PASSIONATE about the wrestling business, ESPECIALLY TNA Wrestling. If D'More wasn't in charge, I truly believe Alex Shelley wouldn't have become the TNA World Champ and I'm a big fan of his.
I will never forget coming home from the last day of school before the summer 5th grade, coming home and randomly stumbling on TNA on my TV on FSN. TNA! TNA! TNA!
Scott is one of the kindest people in the entire business. When I was 18 I trained at Scott's school. He was often out of town doing Team Canada down in TNA at the time. But, everytime Scott was in town, he'd stop by the school and hang out. Scott's mind for wrestling gets a lot of credit, but fundamentally he is (was) a REALLY technically sound wrestler. Scott would love to jump in the ring and teach. We had a lot of well known TV wrestlers stop by the school - a lot of guys that have great reputations for being amazing "technical" wrestlers, and Scott would be there teaching them. Quick story. When I first got to Scott's school I had NO money. Just enough to pay the tuition. One night after training, Scott asked me if I wanted to come out to a restaurant with him and some of the boys. I declined, simply because I had about 6 bucks to my name ( I didn't tell Scott that though). He refused to take no for an answer and told me to catch a ride with him to the restaurant. We get to the restaurant and I'm stressing out looking at the menu. I'm trying to see what I can get for 6 dollars (or whatever the amount was). So, I order salad. Scott's breaking my balls because I'm like 150 pounds at the time. So he orders me a big meal. I'm in an absolute panic because there is no way I'm able to afford this bill now. The whole time I'm thinking about how I'm going to bargain with the waitress that I'll come in next week to pay for my bill, because I lost my debit card (or some ridiculous excuse haha). Scott says he has to slip out early and sets me up with a drive home with one of the other wrestlers. We finish eating, and I find the waitress. My bill has been covered... by Scott. He's THE best. Thanks Scotty
Scott mentioned Robert Evans in this interview. I'll share this story with you! He used to be a mainstay at the promotion I began training at, in Arlington, TX for PCW Wrestling. This was back in 2003-2007, he was one of the trainers along with Wally Darkmon, Lance Hoyt (he was in TNA in 2004 with Kid Kash, as "Dallas"). Robert Evans watched me and one of the guys I broke in with, "Zero" do a tryout match with PCW. I believe both Lance and Rex Reed were there and Robert reffed the match. We were very green but he gave us both the best criticisms that we needed to hear. Our match had no psychology, in his words but was very clear about what we could do better. I worked in Texas for 12 years before hanging it up and I really appreciated, what Robert told me during my tryout.
Every week you give us something new, Chris. I greatly appreciate you and everything you do.. I thought I knew a lot about wrestling, but you and your guests, over the past year, have taught me so much about something I truly love.. wrestling!
I would love if Triple H brought in Scott D’Amore to oversee the Women’s Division on Raw/SmackDown and help create more engaging storylines, feuds and giving the division the proper attention it deserves.
IDK about that. WWE is currently in a partnership with TNA. If he did that, it'd be like going back to the company that fired him. AEW is a better fit for Scott. If I were TK, I'd make Scott the General Manager & Head of Creative & Don Callis the AEW President. Scott & Don revived TNA when they were in charge, they can do the same for AEW.
Wow, hearing the process of how difficult it is for you guys to just get a chance in the US is eye opening. Major props and I personally think that is ridiculous.
Will always be thankful to Scott & the trust he has given in me, working with him last year was a massive honour & I'm really excited for his + Maple Leaf's future.
I've been watching for a while now, and was having trouble coming up with a moniker for Chris based on things he says often. Your videos are always a treat, Chris "I was never a shoe guy" Van Vliet.
What is crazy to me is that there is probably a world that exists where TNA has Ospreay, Okada, Mercedes, AND CM Punk signed long-term on their roster! All this because of how Scott has helped rebuild their reputation. Its crazy to see considering where TNA once was.
@@TheNYJets15and that is exactly what TK doesn't want to admit to himself. He's just as detrimental to the company his father is bankrolling as much as his EliteVPs sans Kenny Omega are in the locker room. Sure they're trying to save face rn but if Tony doesn't face the truth that he needs an experienced booker/promoter to run the place he won't last longer than 20 years while still trying to break ground in the mainstream sense.
I'm sorta happy we finally got Scott's side as to why he left TNA. I'm also happy for him as far as whatever he's doing now. As far as the people in the comments saying they'd love to see Scott D'amour in AEW or WWE, let me tell you what I think: As far as AEW, Tony Khan isn't smart enough to make that happen, because he much rather hire marks than wrestling people. Much like WCW when they hired money marks instead of smart logical people who knew any inch of running the company. As far as WWE, I'd say not really because they've obviously never heard of him. Scott D'Amour's run in TNA whether it was the manager of Team Canada or just behind the scenes was really something special.
He still says "We" about TNA even tho he's sadly not there now. That's how you know his heart is in the realist place and TNAs ownership should recognize their wrong and bring him back before someone in AEW/WWE gets in his ear cus I think EVERYONE sees the love for Scott and the progress he made for it.
Ive been telling folks....WWE is gonna fleece TNA for the talent they want and they're gonna cut bait. They're gonna Jordynne and they're 100% taking Joe Henry also. You'll see...remember this. Also i do hope Tony Khan has some sense and he contacts Scott to help book his shows
I been saying for the longest TK needs to hire Scott for day to day operations he turned TNA around with little to no TV deal and little to no budget him in AEW with Tv and a big budget could lead the ship in the right direction again
The business partner emotion got me. And it shows that Scott is impacted by it through his shoot job and how the TNA talent responded to his departure.
man tna will always be special to me because it was the first true form of pro wrestling outside of wwe that i found stumbling upon it on spike man i remember i just saw christian cage come up and it blew my mind and i found out about samoa joe, christopher daniel’s, aj styles, beer money, sting , kurt, motor city machine guns, can name hella more🤣
I really wanna see Maple Leaf Wrestling, especially since Mauro Ranallo is gonna be the commentator. Loved him when he was in WWE and it was a shame what happened to him there.
Man I never put two and two together before man but I knew your father when I was growing up in Windsor he always came to my mom's restaurant The Howard Restaurant for breakfast or lunch and he always came to find me in the back and shake my hand. He was always a great man and took time out of his day to say Hi to me and make me feel important lol. Rip D Amore I will always remember him as a good man ❤️
Scott D'amore & Maple Leaf Pro wrestling is gonna be a saving grace for Pro Wrestling. It'll serve as a solid alternative to the big 2 of WWE & AEW. Scott D'amore has great timing starting a wrestling company because alot of great free agents are coming up (Josh Alexandar in early 2025 Speedball Mike Bailey end of this year, Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens) end of this year, maybe Killer Kross & Scarlett if the quit soon etc. Plus you got some great free agents you can sign right now (Matt Cardona, Dasha Gonzales, Allie/The Bunny, Bobby Lashley, MVP, Richard Holliday, etc).
Scott D'Amore will end up being on the Mount Rushmore of most important people in TNA management history. It's a downright shame he isn't part of the company now, but look forward to Maple Leaf. Already seems like TNA doesn't have much issue with talent working with him in the new promotion. Hopefully this translates to a relationship down the line because D'Amore is very in tune with the Canadtian indies and get guys who were ready for a big push.
Chris has done it again ! Scott D'Amore (Team Canada in TNA (impact wrestling; total non-stop action). Scott as a "Authority Figure (in TNA)" was great; he was in charge of Creative; the heart and soul of TNA (just like what (Tommy) Dreamer was to ECW). Dude's a legend. From what I have read online, it was Anthem's Anthony Cicione, who took over Scott's place as TNA's President. I wonder what Dixie Carter is doing now. She did make one appearance in the original ROH. If D'Amore wore a L.A. Lakers sneakers/kicks/shoes in Boston, he would instantly get "killed" by the raucous and rowdy crowds. Immediately, I am thinking of the classic 1980's NBA rivalry between Magic Johnson (the Lakers) and Larry Bird (Boston Celtics). D'Amore is a sneakerhead, like the former controversial and infamous Philippines "first lady" Imelda Marcos, now ? Nice...
Nothing but Love for Scott D’Amore Watched him for the First time as the manager of TEAM CANADA 🍁 🇨🇦 He might have not been to THE BIG E but he definitely made a major stamp on The North American Wrestling Map Hall of Famer 🙏
1:51:25 Now that Scott himself said it publicly, I don't know what those who always try to twist reality to score tribalism points could say. Christian Cage winning the Impact World Title was a huge special moment and it did great for the company and for Josh and his growth.
@@TheGreatVivek7 Some people on the internet keep crying about Omega not dropping the Impact World Title straight to a TNA guy. They claim that having Christian Cage win it from him before eventually dropping it to Josh Alexander on a TNA PPV was AEW wronging TNA somehow.
I’d like to say that I would like a job with Scott D ‘Amores maple leaf wrestling promotion. I have amateur wrestling background but I’m willing to learn and train professionally and I believe I can take his company National and bring it to the level of WWE and AEW
TNA seems to be doin better without Scott. Yes, the crowds are still crap and the production level is still very low, but the WWE partnership is at least generating interest on some of their wrestlers. Hendry sucks, but at least he’s getting famous.
30:00 damn. I didn't realize it at the time, but Hogan/Bischoff did in TNA/Impact what they did in WCW. I wish I could've started watching again after they left, but they moved from Spike and I couldn't find it.
So... Will Scott D'Amore's Border City Wrestlin (BCW) merge into his Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling (MLPW), similar to the recent Progress Wrestling and DEFY Wrestling merger??? I'd like to see [1-2] BCW+MLPW do business with [3-4] Progress Wrestling+DEFY Wrestling and [5] Major League Wrestling (MLW) as a "Super 5" multi-promotion.
Is BCW still active? I remember going to some of those late 90's/early 2000's shows and the booking talent was amazing. My backyard wrestling fanatic friends from high school used to have pre-show BBQ's in the banquet hall parking lot. Disco Inferno (Glen) was always back there having a smoke and one time King Kong Bundy yelled "HEY BOYS!" and helped himself to 5-6 hotdogs in one hand. He had the thickest neck & biggest head i've ever seen in my life lol.
