Scott Hamilton - tenor sax Kenny Davern - clarinet Howard Alden - guitar Leonard Gaskin - bass Giampaolo Biagi - drums Recorded at Brecon, Wales UK on the 17th of August 1990
I wanted to give this a big like. Until I heard Alden's solo. Why is this guy so famous? Because he is outstanding at NEVER hitting a note where it should be? And he has learnt with George van Eps. George, how could you!
Not all clarinetists scream in the altississimo for a great improvised solo. Viva chalumeau. KD has played about forty choruses on a tune and has woven in probably every cliche' lick known, while being a master of taste.
Well...I hate to disappoint you but Kenny Davern is also known as one of the clarinet high note masters of all time! I heard him play an altissimo double E pure and clear as a bell live in New York City.
