"Scott Pilgrim is Dating a High Schooler" is a sentence that sets the tone for how much of a loser he is at the start. it would be an understatement to say has has room to grow, and he damn well needs to
@@duggyfresh8899 because the point of the character is to outright tell you he's an asshole from the start, and he's the main character. They literally want you to shit on him. Doesn't mean they don't want you to share that with the other guys of course, it's simply because the author put a focus on this instance
This is probably my first time with Scott Pilgrim (yes, not the ACTUAL adaptation (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World by Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright), but this damn fine dub), and me likey! It's basically a comedy about a man who thinks he's a ladies man and all-conquering hero, but in reality is a total tosspot who has to grow into a better man. And not only is the tosspot still an enjoyable character to follow, but the people around him are fascinating and the humour and cartoonish artstyle are on point. It's one of the cornerstones of 2000s comics alongside stuff like the more popular post-apoc drama The Walking Dead for good reason.
other comments go in depth but tldr, neil was originally played by a trans man and due to personal reasons was recasted with his current actor (Mystic) in Issue 3
Toyed with the idea of him pronouncing it wrong because he’s stupid, ended up dropping this around the time we started issue 3 though bcuz it’s an in joke only the crew would get
This was really well made!! I love the casting!! ^^ My friends were posting about the series, and I was interested too, so now I'm going to experience the comic, movie and series so i can surprise them all!! Once again, this was an absolute amazing dub!! I hope you and everyone has a great Thanksgiving (If u celebrate) :D
Lovin’ all the music and sound effects from Sonic games. Didn’t expect to even hear Emerald glows and shadow’s skates for Ramona but it all fits really well. Great job!
"Promise you'll be good." -every child predator Also im aware scotts not a good guy but man that part really drives it in. Its not really a cretique since its clearly the intended effect. Discomfort
@@SCharlesDennicon I get that the story tries to point out scott isn't really in a relationship witg knives. My point is scott saying "promise youll be good" that its intended to be a bit uncomfortable Plus even though scott isnt really dating knives. let's also not pretend that Scott and knives relationship is normal. The story even cretiques it because it's abnormal even if scott isn't really dating knives. Scott may not be edp445 but the relationship between him and knives isn't ok.
@@SCharlesDennicon Where are you going with this. What your saying isn't relevant because Scott is 23 besides that let me be clear I don't actually think Scott pilgrim is a pedo. I am aware their relationship is bullshit. But him dating knives isn't normal even if they aren't playing battle ship in bed its just not normal. Knives is 17 Scott is 5 years older. The story points out he is in this not romantic "relationship" to feel needed and even if he isnt taking advantage of her in a edp445 way but me pointing out its not normal isn't a brave statment because the story also points out it isn't normal. I should of elaborated more in the "Also im not aware scotts not a..." But I knew somebody would say "uuhhhhm. Actyslly Scott is" Uhhhhg Let it be clear from here. Scott isn't a pedo... but he is a pathetic douchbag the story litterslly says Scott is a bad person.
@@somedorkydude6483I honestly wouldn’t go so far to call him a douchebag he is a dumbass who doesn’t see the wrong in what he’s doing and definelty is pathetic in a lot of ways. Idk though maybe I try too hard to see the good in people (including fictional characters) but the worst thing about his and knives “relationship” is that he hurts her by leaving her for a different girl making her feel inferior when she’s young and impressionable obviously age different is weird but he’s immature for his age and dumb and in reality not much different than any high school boy she would’ve gotten with he should known better by then but I think In the end knives actually turns out better than she would have whether it’s realistic or not. She moves on and becomes more mature than Scott by vol 6 and says she’s happy to be going through the heartbreak and everything by vol 3 because she sees that it’s more real than her high school drama so idk really not to harmful towards her overall
I love how Scott doesn't even have a second thought and is just head over heals for Ramona completely forgetting Knives... I wanna his mind subconsiously forgets because he knkws he doesn't want to date her but I think he kinda just forgets
I'm just glad i get to see the comic and i like how the movie says most of the lines in the book but I wish they didn't cut some lines most of the lines in the comic are fucking hilarious
It is legal but the girl is still in school and hasnt even matured so scott is still morally wrong but he doesnt even have feeling for knives still scott is technically wrong in the head and morally questionable
Technically the age of consent in Canada is 16, as long as the adult is not in a position of power over the minor (teacher, boss, etc.) or the minor is not engaging in pr*stitution. There may be some other rules but that’s what I’m aware of. However, as a Canadian it is still very socially unacceptable for a minor to date an adult who’s older than 19, especially nowadays compared to when Scott Pilgrim takes place. Hell, even in the comic a lot of the characters call him out, so it wasn’t acceptable back then either.
I love the background tunes that play in the video. For those who don't know, these tunes are from Sonic Unleashed. Also the voice actor for Wallace is much better than Keiran Culkin.
This is great and I can’t wait to watch the other videos! Also, I loved the anime, but this makes me wish that we could get a full animated adaptation of the graphic novel.
Im struggling to see this as the old comic dub i watched years ago, but i get some breezes of it, i remember the part where knives and wallace meet, and im kind of egocentric with "not how i remembered it" plus having watched the anime now im willing to give this a second binge like when i was younger Or im scott pilgrim Im still thinking you already did vol. 6 and youre a different channel, weird how my brain works (you all can dislike my comment) Edit: oh its a reupload, thanks and sorry
Jorala: Princess of Aurora (a graphic novel series based off Scott Pilgrim, StarFire from DC, and a romance version of Lilo and Stitch and Aladdin.) Plot: Jorala is the 22-year old princess of a beautiful planet called Aurora, who has a vision of a planet full of harmony and peace. Mitch Tele is a 19-year old boy from Earth who longs to explore what’s beyond his hometown and find the right girl to date. Jorala is chosen to inherit the throne from her parents, but this left her evil sister, Narissa, jealous. Narissa staged a coup with the help of the Korks (orc-like aliens who are enemies to the elf-like Aurorans), selling Jorala to slavery. When Jorala and her sister were captured by Dr. Drex, Jorala gains new powers like super-strength, super-speed, the ability to fly, invulnerability and blasts of pure energy from her hands, also martial arts. Jorala escapes by stealing a spaceship, only to have the engine damaged, and crash land on a strange planet. At the same time, Mitch is playing a video game called “Space Quest” and sees a romantic scene, knowing he needs love so he looked at the nighttime sky and he saw what it appeared to be a shooting star, making him wish for a girl who would protect him, a girl who would take him to see the world. The shooting star got closer and closer and it hit the nearby forest. Mitch goes to investigate the source of the crash, only to find a spaceship, and he saw an unconscious alien girl and took her back to his house. His parents saw the girl and she woke up, Mitch and the girl and shocked to see each other. The girl was Jorala, and she discovered that the planet she visioned of is Earth. Mitch gives Jorala a causal uniform and the people of the town are shocked see a pink girl, making them believe she’s from Canada, hence the Canadian-themed winter hat. Narissa is mad that Jorala had escaped, so she must search every planet for her. Meanwhile, Mitch Tele is bullied by Craig on top of a tall tower. Craig sends Mitch falling off the tower, Jorala hears this and reveals her true self, saving her boyfriend from the fall. People are shocked to see there’s a hero among them, and Jorala fights crime ever since. Jorala learns from Mitch that his late father wanted him to travel the world with him, but never did due to his death, so she takes the boy to see the world, flying past the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, over the great pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China and past the Sydney Opera House. Narissa found Jorala, but she escaped and Mitch is captured instead. Jorala sees Mitch’s mother crying that her son is missing. Mitch is in a cell, sad about his life, before he’s sent to the execution chamber to be interrogated by Narissa. Jorala hears news that an alien starship appeared in the city, Jorala recognizes that Mitch is in there so she comes to the rescue. Mitch is gonna be executed by being dipped in a lava pit when he refused to reveal Jorala’s location. Jorala breaks through a wall with her super-strength and fights several Korks with her pure energy blasts and martial arts, before defeating her sister with a beam of light, throwing Narissa into the self destruct button. Jorala frees Mitch and they escape the mothership before it explodes. Jorala sees Mitch dying and gives him a life-giving kiss, saving him from his death. Jorala and Mitch left town and start a new life in Orlando Florida, having half-human, half-Auroran hybrid children, three daughters and one son (showing that humans and Aurorans are genetically related, kinda like Narwhals and Belugas).
Trans woman, but yeah, also everyone was kinda doing their own thing for the characters, there wasn’t really a “being accurate”, as long as the voice fit some what
@@subspacestudios my main problem with it were 2 voices. Sister of Scott and dude who said "i am living here ". Like, they totally don't fit. I don't ask an accuracy to movies or something, just fit a character. They could change roles or smth.
@@neodeer9338 To be fair, the movies weren’t used as a reference at all for how to play the characters (a good bit of us aren’t particularly fond of their casting), but Neil was recasted in Issue 3, Stacey is still the same however.
best dub of the comics i've seen so far. love the trans rep!! stacey and neil were characters i wouldn't have expected (i personally HC wallace to be transmasc) but they're welcome all the same!
Glad to see people that appreciate it considering how much flack we still get it about it (Neil literally got recasted in Vol 2 and people still complain about it LOL)
yeah i think i'm on my second rewatch now and tbh i didn't even notice he was recast, it sucks that even when it's *barely* noticeable people are still dicks about it
and i also really appreciate you having bleeped out (presumably) the r-slur in later volumes, i assume it was just replaced in a later release for this one?
This is, this is, this is.... This is terrible. A girl voicing Young Neil and a boy doesn Stacey? Could have switched them and be better off. But the other voices are also mediocre. Atleast you added some sounds and animation to it.
a trans man used to play neil yes and a trans woman plays stacey, also yeah it was the first time for a lot of, if not ALL of us, there's always gonna be growing pains, no need to be such a loser about it lol
@@subspacestudios Is not unusual to woman voice man and vice versa (Goku, Naruto Luffy are all voiced by woman in the original) The most important part was the comedic time that you guys get perfectly, all the voice actors sound like their age and demographics you guys did a great job
