Some admirers of his incredible skill as a harpsichordist might not even be aware of the late Professor Ross's remarkable proficiency as an organist. What is truly amazing is how Scott Ross accomplished so much during his tragically short life - a statement which (sadly) could be made about many of the great names in the history of serious music.

Impossebly good ! I cannot imagine why there is so little organ recording by Scott Ross. Beside Gustav Leonhardt Scott Ross is truly the greatest!! Thank you for posting. Subscribed.

ce qui plait à tous dans les interprétations de Scott Ross, aussi bien à l'orgue qu'au clavecin, c'est la clarté, le chant et la danse, le rythme. et comme chant et danse il y a, on dirait cela sorti d'hier . Et dans le chant, la profondeur ou la grandeur, comme le léger et le délicat bref les sentiments de toujours. Ce qui fait que la musique et non pas seulement l'interprétation paraissent actuelles. Simplicité et noblesse de la fugue 538, jouée sans pathos ou presque.

Le chant et la danse , comme c'est juste ce que vous dites ! Le talent de Scott Ross est sans doute là ! En tous cas il reste un des meilleurs clavecinistes contemporains...et un organiste exceptionnel trop méconnu !

Wonderful performances! 1:06:26 Love Scott's full-measure trill in the Toccata. Many abbreviate it. Also like that Scott started trills on the writtenote rather than upper note. Why no mixtures ever in the Dorian fugue? Love Helmut Walcha's best.

@@mcevoycampbell3273 The Mixture stop is usually 3 to 5 high pitched pipes per note, tuned to match and reinforce the upper harmonics of an 8-foot pipe's pitch. _"Mixtures make the notesound shiny!"_ - R. Gift, 1969 When I tune Mixture pipes, I try to stay away from them as much as possible because my body heat can cause the pipe to very slightly lengthen. After being tuned, when the pipe slightly cools and contracts, its speaking length is now shorter and it soundslightly sharp. The worst Mixture I ever encountered was a 5-rank Sharf. Even smaller and higher-pitched pipes! Oh, most Mixture pipes sound the pitch of the pipe 5 octaves higher and 5ths many octaves higher. When playing the Dorian fugue, I start out with Principal chorus 8, 4, 2-2/3, 2 and IV Mixture. (fouranks of pipes). (Same registration as the Dorian Toccata.)

I'm guessing the Mixture is up to the elective discretion of the organist, and would be employed towards the end (after 1:15?) for maximum effect--and that Scott Ross is one who could pull it off! Also: now officially beginning my search for the Scott Ross version of the Rivers of Babylon choral prelude...@@robertgift

@@mcevoycampbell3273 Yes, all stop selections are up to the organist. Suspecthat JSB would have used the Mixture from the beginning. I like the sound and the consistency. Choral prelude registrations arentirely different from the mighty toccatas and preludes and fugues. As much as I like powerful 32' reed stops, especially in Reger, I have never found a Bach composition in which a 32' reed is appropriate. 32' flue and 16' reed is wonderful in Bach.

...deeply admiring Scott Ross - but I'd say: his registration is clumsy a bit. Quite static & not very structural. Nevertheless an interesting recording. Thx for sharing!
