How much is Scott's Scale race bike? At £14,000 this flagship RC SL version is the most expensive hardtail I've ever tested. I got a UK exclusive chance to check out the details and kit that make it so special at the Swiss launch event.

Fantastic tech talk on a great high end hardtail Guy.I have a Scott Scale RC 900 SL not this model,mine's a couple of years old now,but my point is they really are thoroughbreds.Beautifully engineered,fast and very nimble.

I really like the fact that Scott resisted the temptation to spec a ridiculous fragile tyre set to push weight further down. Those Rekon Race’s are, in my experience, actually usable for us mere mortals too, fairly puncture-resistant, heavier and grippier than the looks suggest, they handle many things acceptably as long as it’s not sticky mud you’re riding on. And they are also slower than the looks suggest, far from the fastest rolling XC tires available - anyone who doesnt believe me should try something like a Thunder Burt or a Race King. You’ll get a shock :) So, for lighter terrain(erm, like … european gravel…? ) there is even more speed to be pulled out of this bike. Amazing.

just bought second hand rc 900 sl 2018 L size / 8.54kg with s-works renegade tires and pedals for 3.600e ...there is no way to pay 14k for a bike

That’s a great buy! I built mine for around the same price but I used Scott Scale 940 frame as I couldn’t afford RC frame for the sake of shaving off just a bit more than 100g. Mine’s size Small though… 8.4kg with pedals :) great handling bike!!!

@@slimjim4ever what is the biggest weight saver? I built a 700 RC at 9kg w/ pedals for about 2800usd. So quick on the tighter trails.

What is the biggest chainring size for this frame? 38 or 40?

I just mailed Kai, one of the engineers at Scott and he says: Hi Guy, Officially it fits up to 36t while respecting the production/ISO clearances and also works with the existing chain guide then, but users can run it up to 40t if they are happy to accept reduced clearances (at their risk obviously). @@GuyKesTV now i have seen the ride video. Would like to hear comparisons to bikes which play in the same ballpark (you mentioned a Scalpel fullsuspension 😏) and tech insights/changes + why/if they are important and how they improve the bike/ride. A couple examples: the hub mechanism sounds like dt swiss (is it?), bottom bracket dimensions (still PF 92mm with micro ballbearings?), clamping and cable routing in and around the headset, warranties on the specific components.. Also the ride video is so repetitive, there is so much time wasted on talking about things which easily can be red on Scotts website.

@@GuyKesTV Hi I'm flattered you have replied to my comment. I'm not a serious mountain biker, I basically plan just to do some basic trail riding with climbs and drops. I didn't really want to spend over £2500 and the Scott seemed about the best for it's price range. Would you think the bike would do the job or can you think of any other brands around that price range? Thanks for any advice!!!
