I 'm not sure to see the point of some upgrades to the 50, the GRX group alone adds up to more than a model 20 already mounted with GRX, hydraulic brakes, etc...,? I'm also looking at these models, but I'm skeptic about internal cables, it looks like mess if I need to change one myself!
@berniesbikeadv

Hi @DR1_1 if you don’t have a spare groupset at home(like I had), it makes no sense to go with the speedster 50 and upgrade it, it would be more cost efficient to get the better model which has already grx stock.
@matteo.borbonese
@matteo.borbonese 3 месяца назад
@@DR_1_1I would not be too concerned about the cable routing. There are some advantages, keeping the front very clean. I’ve been lucky enough to find a brand new 2023 SG20 (GRX, hydr brakes etc) at 1600 CHF and I’m very happy with it. Maybe the only upgrade I see in the future is going tubeless (already compatible) and maybe with smaller and less "gravel" tires, even if the G-One Bite are great offroad. Another thing I will look at is the stem lenght (100mm for the M size) that it is a bit long in my opinion (I'm 178cm, legs 82.5), but it can be a personal preference. Consider that if you plan to bike packing, the fork does not have any external attachment, only one internal point (each side) probably for fenders.

Nice. I purchased the second handed Speedster 20 with Tiagra.... Also changing groupset to 105 hydr and making it more performance oriented... Scott made the Speedster model very similar to the Speedster Gravel...

Do you notice a big difference between the aloy and carbon fork? Wanted to purchase the 50 but I have some concerns about the comfort.
@berniesbikeadv
@berniesbikeadv 9 месяцев назад
no, i rode it for several days in the beginning of september and did not have any comfort issues
@TeoSluga
@TeoSluga 7 месяцев назад
The difference is in the weight. It's quite significant difference, the gravel all-carbon fork is somewhere in the range of 550g, my gravel carbon-ALU fork has 800g and the all-ALU gravel fork has approx 1kg...

I have a chance to get one if these, 2022 model, for like 850 euro. I'm really struggling because I have also friends that tell me spend more and get one with gtx.. Is it really something that will change the biking experience so much? I will use it for climbing and gravel roads
@berniesbikeadv
@berniesbikeadv Год назад
Hi R DL, well, it depends if you are already used to 11 speed shifting. let’s say, for example on a road bike, then you will see the difference. But when this is the only bike you ride, the 2x8 shifting is not bad. The only thing that is not great, is the mechanical disc brake. If you want to upgrade later to a better groupset, this can get expensive as you have to buy the parts and also pay someone to get it on your bike. You also have to know, that the Claris levers are not compatible with hydraulic brakes, so if you want to change the brakes, you have to change the whole groupset.
@nicksbikevlog
@nicksbikevlog 5 месяцев назад
I know this comment is a little old, but Claris does not work with Hydraulic brakes. If you want hydraulic brakes on this, you will have to upgrade to a Tiagra or better groupset @@berniesbikeadv

@@TheAmaCreep I did buy it, found it for cheap because the new (identical) model came out, i think all in all i paid it 900euro with shipment: and i love it!!!

Where on earth did you find this for €1000? I live in Berlin and am interested in this particular model, but all the shops I've seen it in had it for much more than that ... €1328 at Stadler for example.

Hello Ryan, Thank you for your comment, I got lucky and got a really good deal back in January, I think I was 1100€ incl. shipping. I also guess XL is not the most popular size 🤔

I found a 20 in Switzerland for 1600 CHF. If you buy at the right time (when shops receive the new stock, in January/february) you can find a great deal. Then I'm Italian and I always play to obtain another discount (mine was listed 2199 discounted at 1689...) 😅

Hi, I have some question if you can help me. I'm thinking of purchasing my first bike and I kinda decided to go for a gravel bike, but I don't know wich model to pick. I am thinking between the scott speedster 50 and 30 gravel. Can you please tell me your opinion? The 30 has hidraulic braakes and comes at 1760 euros. I am a little bit confused too about the gearbox. What would you pick personally?
@berniesbikeadv
@berniesbikeadv Год назад
hello raul, thank your for your comment. If you can afford it, I would recommend the speedster gravel 30, because in the long run, you will enjoy it more with the GRX shifting and hydraulic brakes. In addition, it is a lot lighter then gravel 50. I only went with the gravel 50 because I had an old Shimano 105 groupset at home and I switched it recently . And now I really can feel the difference between hydraulic braking and the gear ratios, because the gravel 50 only comes with a Shimano Claris 8 speed.

@@berniesbikeadv Thank you for the answer. And in the long run it will remain a good bike? Like for example if I would want to do thriathlons I can just switch the tires and use it as a road bike, and if I would want to try mountainbiking, I could simply keep this tires? And in your opinion, how many years will last this bike and still be good as I progress in the cycling world? Is it good at advanced levels too or then I should get another one? Because I am afraid that I will buy it now and in 2 years I will decide to buy another one. And the last question will be that is it hard to maintain it? Like will I need to replace many times some parts of it or at this price the parts will be good for a few years if maintain correctly? Sorry for asking so many question but I don't know anyone that knows how the bikes work.
@berniesbikeadv
@berniesbikeadv Год назад
Hello Raul, If you race, you should definitely switch wheels and tires and for a triathlon maybe add some aero bars. If you take good care of it, it will last you a long time , I have a scott mountain bike from 2018 and it’s still in good shape. If you are more into road cycling, you are going to notice that these bikes are pretty heavy compared to pure road bikes in that price category. Maintenance is easy: just look out for the brake pads and the chain stretch. Make sure you change the chain at the right time so that you don’t need to change the cassette as often. I hope I could help ;)

Hydr brakes all the time. Mech disc brakes are the worst solution possible on bikes. Start from this, then try the right geometry for your body.
