Scottie did all the little things for Portland in order for them to take game 5, avoid elimination, and make the series 2-3. www.basketball-reference.com/...
Exactly his passing Lanes defense along with Ron Harper and Michael Jordan and even Tony Kukoc with their length set the tone for that Bulls championship teams defense.
What these highlights didn't show is when Scottie dislocated two fingers when he fell on a drive in the first half. They had to pop his fingers right back in and tape'em up. Dude was a warrior.
@@JoseOrtiz-fc7mj I disagree I think pippen was out of his prime in 96 the year they won 72 games.. Pippen had major back surgery after his rookie season. And a ton of other injuries too. He had another back surgery before going to Houston in the off season. Pippen in Portland had more miles on him than the entire lakers starting 5. Yet he still took a 67 win Lakers team to a game 7 kobe was in his 4th season so he wasn't that young. Had it not been for horrible coaching by Dunleavy and the refs giving the Lakers a ton of calls . Pippen probably wins his 7th ring, the blazers were poorly coached extremely dysfunctional and old
@@wilfredjones4042 he played a very high level in 97 and 98 even after those injuries. So no disagreements here. A younger more in his prime Pippen would have beaten the Lakers that year.
and it should have been 7 but the league conspired against the Blazers in game 7 when they were making the Lakers look like a college team. NBA didn't want Portland-Indiana.
@@marktrail8624 The Refs did not make Scottie Pippen shoot a pathetic 3/12 from the field and made the Blazers miss 15 shots in a row in the 4th qtr. Keep making all those whiny excuses why the Blazers lost.
@@Theterminato2013 ....You looking at the symptoms... the cause was the refs completely dominated the 4th quarter for the outcome they wanted. Please don't be naive. That is such an old way of thinking.
@@marktrail8624 The Blazers were known as JailBlazers for a reason: it was because they were prone blowing huge leads. Just a year before, the Blazers blew a 20 pt lead in the 2nd half one game 2 1999 WCF vs the SA Spurs. I guess that game and series vs the Spurs was rigged too according to your delusional logic only because your precious Blazers lost and got swept.
@@anthonylockhart4943 only 35? You do realize he literally had more than 2 extra seasons of playoff basketball on top of being 35 yrs old. Your comment shows your lack of knowledge when it comes to the game of basketball.
@@anthonylockhart4943 35 is the age most pro athletes retire, not just basketball. Pippen still manage to play at that level as a starter. This is some serious disrespect.
He did that night in night out for the Bulls after Phil took over as head coach and made him the floor general. Dude has real stuff. Unlike stat padders these days.
Portland was that squad back then. Pippen turned into a beast in Portland (I was sad to see him leave Chicago, but he was good in Portland). He was reserved in Chicago but still dominating.
That was an old Pippen coming from the late 80's where pushing and punching was part of the defense strategy for every team. Beside been hurt, passing a surgery, he still showing class in the NBA. I was always expecting to see Scottie and Kobe in the same team but that transfer unfortunately never occurred
I agree. The mid 80s and 90s players was to me talent in matchable. They were influenced by the early greats and respected and honored the torch passed to them. Now days there is no torch passed on. No honor to what the game is and no respect to the great ones that paved the way for them to carry on which they didn’t.
Ok, better player than Shaq and Kobe?! He wasn’t even the best player on his own team. Sheed, Steve Smith and Sabonis were better than overrated Pippen and carried his ass all throughout the season. The amount of Pippensexuals in this comment section is comedy and hilarious 😂🤣.
It scary that Kobe was 1st team all defense but Pippen was giving it to him... Also the way Pippen was disrupting things one would wonder whether he was that good or it was because he understood the triangle that the Lakers were using under Phil Jackson. If Pippen was that good to disrupt things like that then imaging having to play against the Bulls with (a 6.6 PG) Harper, Jordan, Pippen & Rodman¿
Both actually. He knew the triangle better than all the guys from the Lakers except for Phil Jackson and Tex Winter, and what you see here is only a shadow of his former self. The four guys u mentioned is the reason why 96 Bulls is the greatest team in history. Nobody gets past them.
Refs conspired against the Blazers, allowing Lakers to foul and hack and then calling ticky tack fouls on Blazers. Blazers were the 2000 champs. And 2 years later the Sacramento Kings were robbed and should have been the champs.
Please, I’m not a fan of Lebron or his attitude but he would treat Pippen like he’s his step child if he played today. Comparing a sidekick to Lebron and KD is an insult to both of them.
As a 16yr old watching this game back in the day I’ve always said the Blazer got cheated throughout the series they had a way better team without the superstars
They did! But that’s not why they lost… They lost because Mike Dumbleavy was hard-headedly trying to feature Sheed down the stretch of games especially game 7! He wasn’t that guy!
Did the refs made the Blazers miss the 10+ shots in a row in the 4th qtr in game 7? Did they made Scottie Pippen shoot a pathetic 3/12 fg and get his ass busted on defense by letting Kobe hit clutch shots over him the 4th qtr? No they did not, you Bronsexuals aka Pippen simps are pathetic making whiny excuses and conspiracy theories for your 2nd favorite player of all time. 😂🤣
This Portland team was extraordinary: Damon Stoudamire, Steve Smith, Pippen, Rasheed Wallace, Sabonis!!! And, on the bench, Schrempf, Brian Grant, Bonzi Wells, Greg Anthony, Stacey Augmon, I'm probably forgetting some ones... The real 2000 champions 😎
Scottie was holding his own with Kob which is pretty serious considering the fact that we’ve seen Kobe clamp down on world class players like Bron, Kyrie, Kawhi, etc. Just goes to show certain players can play in any era. I think Scottie would still be killing it today, his offensive ability would blossom in todays nba. Not to mention his defensive ability being able to guard players from 1 through 4, pretty special. I really think he would give teams fits today like he did back then.
He'd be averaging a consistent 23-25ppg for atleast 12-14 years if he stays healthy in todays league. He'd be such a great player in today's era to go along with his defense and playmaking
maybe scottie pippen was right and he is not crazy as we thnink. to be number 1 in the west and lead a portland tral blazers to a game 7 against the 3peat lakers. is a hell of a achievement.
Could've used some of those plays in that 4th quarter of Game 7 (or any quarter for that matter - he only had 10pts) Could you imagine if Portland had held on to win the WCF and then go on to win the chip?
I still say some strange things happened in the fourth quarter of game seven that clearly favored the Lakers who were the NBA's favorite from a rating standpoint
@@leeyuan8311 Did the refs made the Blazers miss the 10+ shots in a row in the 4th qtr in game 7? He's preparing to take a charge from Kobe and at the same time covering Kobe's forward passing lanes. Dude sees everything on the court. See how he retreated slowly going backwards at the same time turning his head left and right gauging the position of shaq and fisher spacing forward, and then he planted his feet inviting a charge while spreading both his hands ready for a high pass or a low pass. Kobe saw it and tried to make the pass instead of charging right in, but Pippen was ready for it. You don't really notice all these tiny details when watching the game in real time.
Naw Kobe got the rock turned to bring it up pip got n stance Kobe through a bad premature pass that was easily took. Pip help raise Kobe the 4 years 99-02, real legit era of good tough NBA ball. Kobe got the last laugh wit the cross n lob to Shaq. Real hoopers know the NBA fixed dat for l.a n pip know it too.
Lol you and everybody who liked your comment is on good drugs because although Pippen is extremely underrated, he is not better than Kobe in any universe 🤣🤣🤣 Even in 2000 (when Kobe was nowhere as near a great as he would become) he averaged 22 PPG playing with Shaq, which is Pippen's career high, he was also an All NBA defender something Pip is famous for....but doing all this at 21 years old
Pippen to me was better than his Portland teammates. He carried the team in the finals and was very unselfish. His IQ of knowing what his teammates could and couldn’t do was in his mind and he stepped up. Steve Smith would be second to him in Portland. Funny how Damon was trying to be Scottie’s Robin and Scottie utilized Shrempfs talent with unbelievable passes
You Pippen simps are DELUSIONAL AF. He wasn’t even the 2nd best player on the Blazers. Sheed, Sabonis and Steve Smith carried Scottie’s overrated ass throughout the 2000 season. Btw, the Blazers made the WCF the year before vs the Spurs while Scottie’s overrated ass got gentlemen swepted by the Lakers despite having Charles Barkley and Hakeem on his side, LOLOL. 😂🤣
If the Bulls stayed together the Lakers and Houston wouldn't have won those championships. It's easy for Shaq, Kobe and Kenny Smith to talk shit now. The Bulls was too much.
Bob Costas..."maybe unexpected".. This man is a professional; broadcaster, and he thought this Portland team was a pushover? He will go down as the biggest frontrunner in pro-sports broadcasting.
Scottie had too many knuckleheads around him, and he wasn't really the #1 Scorer type ever in his career, although he could do it when necessary and he almost always put up points..........in the final game against the Lakers later on, they needed a #1 scorer to step up, when everyone was choking.
I agree but his athleticism isn’t. Scottie put power in his play. His way was beautiful to watch. His lay ups, dunks and dribble can’t be copied. He knew how to utilize speed and his IQ was astounding! He knows the talent and limitation of the opponent which he may have picked up practicing with MJ. He can dictate the plays and read the offense movement like Magic. His Air time is his own which is a Dr. J school of flying. All rhythm, balance, and class.
