Sometimes it gets real depressing when we hear about how rough it is in New York (like the rent too high lady) but then they throw a great party like this, where nobody gets shot and everybody just has a great time and I feel like hope is not entirely gone.
The “Village Halloween Parade” started in the early 1970s as a local event with just a few parents chaperoning their kids around the neighborhood to trick-or-treat. In a few years it turned into the huge event it is today. I’m a native NYker but haven’t taken part in the parade in many years. We usually watch the parade from a party on a friend’s balcony that overlooks the parade route. I can’t believe how much Red Hook has changed! It used to be a rather sketchy area but all of South Brooklyn has been “gentrified” in the last 20-ish years. Good to know.
We don't decorate too much anymore but still put a few things out and hand out treats, this year we handed out snack size bags of chips "crisps". There are no adult costume parades around here but the Elementary School kids have a parade at school. Some of the neighbors go all out with decorating for every holiday and one rented a bouncy castle this year. My favorite thing in the 80's was attending Halloween parties, don't hear much about them anymore.
So glad you two had a good time. This video was fine without the street noise. It was really interesting to see how NYC does it up for Halloween. Thanks very much.
I had no idea NYC put on such a fun night, though I would expect no less. I love NYC and so glad you guys got to be there for it. Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
@@shaunvlog “Fat Tuesday” (which just passed) during Mardi Gras is best over there… if you want to see some real “debauchery!” Halloween in NYC is rather tame by comparison.
Looks llike a great time! I'm in L.A. and have been to our West Hollywood Halloween party many times over the years. I thought that New York probably had their own version but have never seen it. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Hi guys! Happy Samhain/Halloween! Down here in Fort Worth, Texas, the temperatures were freezing, but worst of all, it was pouring rain. We didn't get one trick or treater. Well, more candy for me! Got to look at the bright side.
We didn't have rain, but it was really cold in Colorado, too. We had a few Trick-or-Treaters, but less than half of what we had last year. Into the freezer most of the candy will go, ti pyt in Christmas stockings, (and maybe even for an Easter egg hunt). 💔
I think it’d be amazing to be in Scotland for Samhain… it’s really where “Halloween” originated. Beltane is the annual “May Day” festival over there, they build fire on hilltops as part of their tradition.
Halloween is a much bigger deal now in the United States than it was 50 years ago. I remember my mother saying that when she was young Easter was the biggest holiday.
I think that in many ways, Halloween, (or at least Trick-Or-Treat), has shrunk. Halloween was Huge in the 60's, 70', and 80's. At least everywhere that i have lived.
It was always big when I was young, we made our own costumes, or Mom sewed them. My Mom even dressed up sometimes to take us kids out trick-or-treating. People sat on their porches and had cauldrons of witches brew, (apple cider), popcorn balls, and candied, or Carmel apples. One family even had horses and a big wooden wagon with hay and it went around the neighborhood giving those who waned a ride. So fun🎃🎃🎃
I live in USA, have never seen a NY Halloween Parade! 🎃 👻 That was so cool, loved all ppl gathering for Thriller. Loving your vids, watching a bunch tonight 👍💕🍀
I love your love for NYC. I hope you get to live here someday. It loses a little bit of its magic when you live here and you get used to it.. but it retains much of it too.. it also unfolds deeper layers. It’s a city that would take many lifetimes to fully experience.. a hub to restless insatiable minds. Also glad you went to the House of Yes afterwards.. I’m sure you had a blast.. a proper way to end a Halloween night.
Yeah the subway has either heaters or something that keeps it warm all year long. I noticed it during the summer I was there. It’s nice during the winter though but bad during the summer.
Catched your live ...live last night. Parade looks like alot of fun. If you're in Brooklyn I just want to let you know that the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame awards are on Friday there. Either there or Bronx. Now I'm confused, lol. But near to you. You might still be able to score a couple of tickets through a ticket broker but it will might be pricey. Just an fyi. I know you couldn't video it but it would be a once in a lifetime experience. Enjoyed the Samhain celebration. I observe both.
I have been curious....do most of you videos get more viewing from people in the UK/Scotland or from the USA? I get that people for the US would watch since much of the content is from here but on the other side it might be the people from the UK/Scotland are interested in learning about your overseas travel experiences.
Looking good and scary. I thought I saw you on Action Kid’s livestream. 🎃 I actually thought Halloween 👻 on a Tuesday would dampen the enthusiasm. Sorry about the equipment & copyright glitches.
My first thought from the thumbnail was "ooo clubnight." And trust me you aren't the weirdest people in the subways. I'm from Philadelphia if that makes more sense. ❤
Looks like you had a great time. Wish the tech had cooperated. But you still found a way to salvage it. I thought gremlins only attacked planes? Made they've moved to camera tech? 👻🤔👻
I really enjoyed this. While you are in NY...I have a favor to ask...if u have time. You have heard about the sad death of Matthew Perry from Friends. Just broke my heart. There is some type of memorial set up and the building shown to be the Friends apartment building in NY. Would love for you to do a video there. I know there is confusion about which building it actually is. Scott On Tape went not too long back and he was saying that folks get the place confused with a couple of others. He shows where the actual building is. If you can work that in it would be awesome! Ya'll be careful up there. They are having issues as I am sure you know. Tell Teka she looked great in her costume! Ya'll have fun, stay safe and God bless!
My son loves Halloween but here in England it's not a huge thing we usually celebrate Guy fawkes ( bonfire night ) instead , my son would love all this, yep you guys in the states do Halloween much bigger and better . 😊
Kel-tic. The cell-tics are just the basketball team, and that stems from a mispronunciation by the general public, that unfortunately stuck. EDIT: I just heard Shaun mispronounce it. That's weird. Must have been a new-ish word to him at the time. Trust me, it's ALWAYS "kel-tic". Unless you're talking about the Celtics.
I’ve heard of a few clubs like that. Usually they turn into giant sex orgies at the end of the night. The police do crackdown on these places under both the vice division and the special victims division. The owners of the clubs actually don’t really care too much as they figure they are getting paid and as long as drugs aren’t a factor it’s none of their business what happens inside. They just provide security and the venue, otherwise they couldn’t care less. In Orlando it’s about the same although clubs don’t really exist much anymore. It’s more bars that have a dance floor that plays a little music but not much else. The club scene pretty much disappeared when the pandemic hit and no clubs really aren’t around anymore. It’s about the drinks and food that are served. They exist at universal and Disney but they just really just do the bar and dance floor idea.
