Just watching this made me so emotional for all I've lost and never had. As an American Pagan, with a huge amount of religious trauma from growing up in the Bible Belt, constantly in search of community as well as my own path, it is so incredibly healing to know that things like this exist, to preserve and share. Thank you so much for recording and sharing this, in such a comprehensive and respectful manner. I wish that someday I might be able to experience something like this in person.

Up here on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state, we have a “Salmon” festival every autumn also. Samhain, you say? Well, you say pagan, I say piscatoran. And we’ll be meeting on the river with our Spey rods and dry flies in the morning!
I used to take part in these festivals, Beltane too, great to watch but even more fun to take part - you can be a steward or torchbearer, or a performer anyone can do it.
Daughter and I participated in this festival back in 2004. Was the coolest thing ever. We brought our costumes and quickly realized that we did not fit in. We were too pretty. She was Sol and I was Luna (Sun & Moon) And once we were in the crowd watching the parade, the Japanese tourists kept taking our pictures like we were the main act. Looks like more people have come in costume over the years so we would not feel so out of place now. Thanks for the video. Brings back wonderful memories.
Lol you were standing more or less where i was too, at the conclusion ceremony Too bad i arrived there too late as i was following the parade... i had like 4 rows of heads in front of me so i barely couldn't see anything 😅
For this American Pagan, watching your Samhain festival makes my heart happy. Though with mostly wooden homes in the American West we're a lot more cautious about having open flames like that. We do both a festive Hallowe'en and more somber Samhain rituals.
Ahhh my soul yearns to be in Scotland, something I feel was passed to me by blood for I’ve never stepped foot there in this life but yet I weep intensely to do so.
I’d love to visit Scotland one day. My grandfather traced our ancestry back to Sir Peter Young, Tutor to King James, but I made a mistake as a teenager and unfortunately I don’t think the UK allows felons to visit
As a witch, I’ve been celebrating Samhain for 25yrs. So cool to see a Pagan celebration of it. I myself did the best I could in the states & went to Salem MA 2wks before Halloween to get into the feel of the season & commune w fellow witches. Just love seeing The Royal Mile. Stayed at a hotel just across from St Giles Church 4yrs ago.

I’ve been trying to figure out if there’s a place I wanna move because I live in Minnesota and Minneapolis area and there is a lot of Halloween here and I decorate all out for Halloween and so now I think if you all celebrate a lot of ways then I could probably move there I’m definitely coming there in August 2023 let’s meet up for a pint. 🎃🎃
I’d like to figure out more of the symbology up there I’ll pitch in styles and bring that here to where I live it’s beautiful I love the different representations of nature and creativity through the costuming
You know seeing the traditional wear of the scotish during their Celtic festivals and the traditions remind me of how similar they are to the Native Americans
I wanted to know how they celebrated Halloween/Samhain in Scotland. Some of my friends are pagan so I wanted to compare and find out a bit more about Celtic festivals. 👍
