I didn’t think that the Highland cattle were that small, kind of cool and yes they are cute! When you’re ready to work on that little cabin please go over the area with a metal detector and see if there’s any treasures hidden below the soil 😊

My husband is from Scotland and whenever we go back to visit his family I always have to stop and watch the highland cows (coos) in the fields. They really are cute! A few years ago Scotland had a heat wave, I remember his cousin telling us about them losing cows from the heat.

You are so correct, we were looking at two different AirBnBs in Germany. One had Highland cows on the property and one did not, we so booked the one with the adorable hairy cows. 🐮We can not wait to make our visit to Germany this summer and take lots of pictures. My plan is to take my favorite picture of the Highland cows and put it on a canvas and hang it in our bedroom when we come back. I love to see and hear your excitement.

I live on one of the Scottish Hebrides islands and in the summer tourists stop their cars in the middle of the road to take photos of the highland cows. Your views are beautiful 😊

I raised Scottish Highland cattle for several years. I loved them all SO much! So beautiful, so fun to interact with. I would let them out in the mornings, the babies would do a group lap around the pasture! We had a bull, Winston So majestic! We would put a round bale on the ground, cut off the netting and Winston would unroll it for the girls. Yes, don't ever trust them totally! Especially when they have new babies. Sometimes they're OK with you, sometimes not! You're going to love them! ❤️

I have highlands and I love them! We can hug on all of our highlands. We live in the Arkansas Ozarks and they do great on our hills. They do have the cutest calfs. At the moment we have a brown teddy bear and 2 silver calfs. Their birthing process so far has been VERY easy! With the Angus cattle we have to help at times but flawless so far with the Highlands. We have our own bull and he throws the greatest calfs.

I've always been enamoured with the shaggy coos. I used to show cattle in 4H when I was a kid and always dreamt of having them someday. We have a homestead now but it's in NW Arizona and it gets way too hot here in the summer for Highlanders. Plus, we have free range cattle all around us that I can enjoy looking at and not have to feed. We don't have green pastures here, which is another limiting factor for me. Congratulations on your beautiful new herd. They are so adorable! 🐂🤠🥰

Food for thought. Sheep, Goats and Cattle (especially bulls) like to have the polled area rubbed or petted. For that reason they will lead with that to get you to rub etc. Sometimes a little aggressive. Just like a dog likes its tummy rubbed and lays upside down. It is advisable to pet or rub them under the jaw. Over time they will raise up to have you rub or pet under their head. That will give you a safer environment with them.

I was told that heritage breed bulls are much more mellow than hybrid breeds. I raise Lineback cattle and the bulls, although twice the size of the cows, are super easy to be around and even tempered.

OMG!!!! Highland cattle is high up on my list of farm animals to get if I ever get my farm....even if they're just for looks. LOL Awesome find! I love Highlanders,. To bad you didn't get white, blonde, black and brindles as well. But i take the brown ones lmao! That cabin idea is wonnnnnnnnderful, be a blast actually I imagine that cabin was built before the civil warm I was brought up in a eastern KS dirt farm our barn if it hadn't been sold and torn down for its lumber would be standing i think, inside the horse barn part of it, was the year 1862. Ks became a state in 61. I am guessing your cabin site is nearly 200 hundred years old instead of 100 way over 100 years old!

Start watching EDC (Every Day Carry) channels, you'll always have a knife in your pocket -- farmers and homesteader regular gear. That is modern concrete, wood, and nails. It might have been built from the 1920s to 1970s. Pig shed or chicken coop. Certainly it can be cleaned up and repurposed.

We have been researching the Highlanders for the past few years, looking to integrate them onto our farm.. Fun Fact. The highlander is the oldest natural breed of cow left on the planet, been unaltered for many, many centuries. From the 15th century according to the research we have done. Such amazing creatures ❤ They have great milk in a amount much more manageable to a small or average family, approximately 2 gallons a day as opposed to the Holstiens I milk now at 6-10 gallons a day.

A suggestion, if time permits, is to go to your local historical society, newspapers, county records and neighboring family's to see if there are any descriptive and/or photographic records of the homes here. You may find exactly what was there and be able to copy it.

Rancher I knew in S.D. was taken down, head trauma, had to sell off most everything and his wife, bless the woman she's a saint, takes care of him 24/7 at a house they purchased in town. He has difficulty with common tasks we often take for granted including talking but maintains a sense of humor. Understand, he had a radio on him but didn't get the opportunity to use it, always side on caution.

And we’re also hoping that we won’t have to shave her utter when she comes in milk. And we had ours de budded because we didn’t want to have the danger of the horns. And wanted to stay safe. One hit with one of those horns could put you in the hospital. I know they’re majestic looking at all but for us it is what it is. And also to get her in the stanchion it would be almost impossible with her horns. We have friends that have Highlanders and he has fixed it to where they manage it with the horns.
