That's exactly what's been happening for years now. And it has now reached SCOTUS level. This does not & will not work for a democracy. It's authoritarian ism waiting for its dictator to take his place.
Ya, why not. And a good way to let the SC know what we think of them. They are not the beacons of ethics and good judgement we expect from that level of justice.
SCOTUS - *Roe vs Wade* states can decide. SCOTUS - *Colorado as a State can’t decide whose on or off the ballot* I thought I couldn’t get more infuriated, but SCOTUS has really scaled it up even more!!!
But it is not congress that will make the laws regarding reproductive rights. That obligation has been given to states. Similarly, confess does not have a law for how to administer or apply the 14th amendment. The current congress can't do even simple rules agreements, or vote on proposed security bills with their whole grocery lists of "wants" in it, so there is no way that they will be able to make a law about the 14th amendment. Doesn't the amendment say that they can only revoke a disqualification? Then, let the states do the disqualifiying and let the congress do the revoking. What was the voting margin they need to revoke disqualification? Shouldn't be a problem for them to count the votes, right?
While I agree with your sentiment, that's not quite right. The Dobbs decision in 2022 said the states can decide. Roe v. Wade made abortion legal in every state.
@@RobertSmith-cx2zh Correct, the supreme court does not make laws, it rules on the constitutionality of laws. Roe v. wade states that the government can not make a law prohibiting abortion. To be a little more specific, Roe held that the specific guarantee of “liberty” in the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which protects individual privacy, includes the right to abortion prior to fetal viability. So they didn't make a law, they prevented a law from being made on the basis of the constitution.
JUST SAY NO, STATE GOVERNMENT! DO IT! REMOVE HIM ANYWAY! "The Supreme Court has no power to enforce its decisions. It cannot call out the troops or compel Congress or the president to obey. The Court relies on the executive and legislative branches to carry out its rulings. In some cases, the Supreme Court has been unable to enforce its rulings."
SCOTUS gave the states the power to decide women’s rights, so the states can boot the bully off their state ballot if they want. CO judges must not be taking bribes like SCOTUS does.
Why do you want to join the traitors? Is that how you think we defend the rule of law? The literal paragraph before the insurrection clause establishes the right to due process. It was the only possible decision, unanimous. We need to convict the traitors, not join them.

Absolutely! It should be our duty as fellow Americans to vote Trump out of the Whitehouse in order to send him to prison. He scarred the nation indefinitely with his selfish actions. It's a shame that he will forever remain in history books into the future.
Its a sad thing when a late night talk show host shows more concern about the fate of democracy in the United States than most Republicans and now the Supreme Court does at the moment.
That is complete hipocrisy right there. It's okay if they disqualified Trump, but if they were to inpeach biden for mental incompetency it's awful. Zero introspection

@Mithril_Antimarr But if SCOTUS said that Congress has to legislate it, wouldn't any federal court rulings just end up being reversed by SCOTUS after their decisions are appealed?

I'm having a hard time understanding how amendments to the US Constitution aren't already "legislation." Why would more legislation be required to act on legislation already in place?
Yeah, a constitutional amendment is the ultimate legislation. That said, Congress can pass legislation that aids in the enforcement of certain amendments, but some are self-executing. The constitution barring insurrectionists from holding office doesn't require legislation, it just requires establishing that one seeking office is an insurrectionist.
@@ignaciogutierrez9634 That certainly looks like the scheme. SCOTUS appears to be the "deep state" MAGAts are always banging on about, they're the "insiders" who "rig" the system. Correct, these last 3 years have been excruciating. Too bad they aren't like the four years Joe. Those were good. Or how much better the 4 years after Joe will be. Can't wait.
It was always a danger to let the executive branch nominate representatives for the judicial branch. It was never proper. LAWYERS should nominate their own judges, nobody else actually qualifies.
That's the problem. Justices were intentionally designed to not be elected by the people because they were supposed to be apolitical yet when justices are selected in the way they are it leaves too much room to allow for appointments to be used politically.
An independent body of judicial experts who nominate SCOTUS justices. I think it’s a great idea and perhaps along with term limits, which my congressman Rep. Schiff supports, a rotating panel of SC justices who are required to undergo an annual ethics review. Those who break ethics code are removed immediately and replaced. Outlaw perks and dark money, if they aren’t going to let citizens vote for justices of SC.
The guy screwing up the pledge frustrates me so much, not because of the pledge but because that's what these guys supposedly live and breathe, it's their brand. But him screwing it up just shows how much they actually care. It's not a sacred oath, it's just a bludgeon they can whip out when people aren't 'being patriotic enough'.
Respectfully disagree in this case. With Donald Trump (and people like Elon Musk), the only bad news is when people are not talking about you. Trump is more or less a cult leader at this point. If you're laughing at him, you're laughing at his followers-- and those people cannot wait to cast their vote.
@1MTEK And the women, college students, high school seniors, senior citizens, families that want to use IVF, veterans, active military, suburban housewives, blacks, Latinos, Asians, college faculty members, and human beings of many other sorts that he and they have insulted and marginalized with their discriminatory furor, like the entirety of the LGBTQ+ community, Muslims, Jews, and Catholics are being activated against that 8% of actual voters that make up the real MAGAverse. Do you think he can actually win with a mere 8% of the general electorate? He is even trying to piss off the so-called evangelical voters. Don't be fooled by the capitulation of MAGA Mikey and Congressional RethugliKKKlans. They aren't even close to representative of the views of voting America. They represent AMERIKKKA, and the KKKorporate framework for which it stands. Take a look at what happened when Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, and Kansas all tried to legislate abortion out of existence. State referenda passed protecting it in each of those states. The voters spoke. They spoke again with referenda against voter suppression. Every time legislators, Congress, or the Supreme Court takes away rights, the people vote it down.
Thanking Colbert for being paid to harass people on air? He needs to be taken off the air. Apparently, a person needs to be a sociopath to be on late night television.
New legislation need to be litigated by both sides and vote on in house & senate. The SCOTUS ruled this way, 9-0 because the want the voters to decide in November. Constitutionally. Trump was impeached my Democrats in the house and not in the Senate. He hasn’t been found guilty of any crimes.
If it had any factual basis or an example of Trump exhibiting this behavior it would be funny. But it's rooted in a non-existent talking point. It's literally trying to talk something into existence that just isn't there.

The hell are you talking about, "reform the Supreme Court"? Even the ardent left wing justices agreed he can't be removed by the courts. Hell, it was a split decision with the Colorado justices too. Have you read the remarks from the dissenting justices in that case? They basically called the other justices crazy. This was congresses job to handle but they didn't even bother to charge Trump with insurrection in the impeachment hearings, let alone find him guilty of insurrection.
You need to reform your constitution. It is old. It is too dangerous to have a president with so much power as the POTUS. You should have an ordinary prime minister like other countries have. Our Prime Minister does not have much power, no executive rights and so on. With a too powerful president, you are fine until you get someone like Trump or Putin. This Strong Leader mantra is disgusting and has never worked well.
@@janetpatri8786 Hello there, Pot. "Why because you didn’t get your way?" "The Electoral College is a disaster for a democracy!" -- Donald Trump, 2012, after he thought Obama had lost the popular vote (he didn't) Amazing how people flip on a dime depending on whether something benefits them or not, eh? Some would argue that the SCOTUS does need some kind of reform, it's not just this decision, it's several others where they have put themselves and their party's ideology above the rule of law. They have made decisions on cases not based in jurisprudence or originalism, but rather emotional appeals and religious appeals. They are also largely corrupt, as proven by Justice Thomas. They take kickbacks from billionaires. That's why they seem to decide in a corrupt fashion sometimes, because they are bought by corporate interests. The SCOTUS famously does self-regulation, where no one actually audits them or checks into whether they are corrupt. They are expected to police themselves. That model has failed hard. So, yes, it does need to be reformed, but not principally because of this one decision. It does show a clear bias though. They will likely find a way to decide that Trump can indeed do whatever he wants too, and that laws don't apply to him. This is what we've come to expect from them. They are not pro-America, they are pro-corporatism and pro-corruption. BTW. I have been saying for 15 years that we need to get rid of the Electoral College. Donald was actually right in 2012. Too bad he violated his own stated principle and accepted an Electoral College win while losing the popular vote by 3 million. It ALMOST looked like he had standards for a second.
Trump does 5+ hours of speeches a week, hes only human, messing up a word here and there is normal. Try to talk for an hour and a half straight and not mess up at all. Its hard. And hes having to deal with all the bs indictments democrats are attacking him with every day. Hes tired and for good reason. Biden on the other hand talks maybe every other week and only for maybe 20 minutes at a time max. And you get at least 5 minutes of material for a montage of a man with actual dementia. And notice how this guy says nothing about it.
Ever since the ultra-right wing Federalist Society (who brought us Thomas, Kavanaugh, Narrett) started pushing the idea of disqualifying Trump I understood that of course they wanted to dump the GOPs biggest loser, and I was afraid SCOTUS would do their masters bidding. What I never understood was why Dems were excited about disqualifying Trump. There are millions of people who are not at all enthusiastic about voting for Biden but will walk barefoot over broken glass to vote against Trump. 60% of Americans have already said they won’t vote for Trump, and about 50% of Republicans say they won’t vote for him if he’s convicted of a crime. What good would it do Dems if Biden were to run not against a barely younger Trump who had the worst GDP growth since Hoover and multiple criminal trials looming, but against a much younger Republican without Trump’s baggage? Trump is the only candidate Biden might beat - by leaving Trump on the ballot SCOTUS has saved us from another GOP POTUS in 2025.
There was no other right choice if they would have Win in favor of Colorado then all of the Republican Governors have the right to throw Biden off Their election ballots for Not being fit mentally to hold the presidency Be careful what you wish for it swings both ways
