Scourge was great. I will still go back and read his sonic universe prison arc. I like the idw books but I miss many aspects of the Archie verse. Great video👏
@@SilverSSJyt From what I remember, the characters he has are: * Scourge * Lara-Su * Enerjak *Shard *Julie-Su *Elias Acorn There may be more but these are the only ones that I remember
@@SkyStrife2690 Bruh. They deserved every word. I get Buns Rabbot betraying him. Dude left her for dead and a good man put her on a life support machine that could kick $*% and tank missiles... but everyone else weren't treated that bad!
Small nitpick but the idea of Anti Sonic was made by Ken, SCOURGE was Ian Flynn’s idea. Ken basically claimed he owned Scourge because he made Anti Sonic. What a scumbag.
@@yam9195 Doesn't seem like you are joking. Also, it's not like he was attacking you. He's just saying that both characters aren't really the same. While Scourge is an Evil Sonic, Goku Black is just Zamasu in Goku's body.
PLEASE talk about dark enerjak from the Archie comics, the silver saga was one of the best things to come from the Archie series I’m begging you to make a video
Is a shame that Scourge is basically in a copyright hell rn. He's owned by Penders but unlike Lara-su, he is way too tied to the sonic cannon to actually be used without going through heavy backstory and design change. But at that point could you really call him Scourge? EDIT: This might be some good news for the Scourge fans but Ken actually said he wouldn't be opposed to bringing his characters back if SEGA/IDW wanted, there's this video from Lance Jerkov that goes more into it. Even talking about freedom fighters may be coming back. (Skip to 11:59 if you wanna get straight into what I'm talking about.) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JhIy4jKqdj0.html
Scourge was the baddest of em all but he couldn't stack up to the more vile villain of the Sonic series: The Pen Man. The dude ruined anything Sonic related he touched and for what? Delusions of grandeur? Imaginary glory? He struck SEGA's throat and hacked off Archie's achilles.
@@Gsmooth84 The 2nd worst possible timeline. Wait. No. It's tied. Yeah I'm still hung up on losing great characters but IDW has done their best to make great characters that could surpass what we had. Heck, Tangle and Whisper showed up in Mobile Sonic Forces! We are recovering and thriving.
@@TheZeroDozer Like Metal Sonic was a prototype/placeholder until he could perfect the process? ...I'm actually tempted to research if Scourge was actually made by Penders or if it's just Anti-Sonic. UPDATE: No dice; pure Penders.
Ah yes, I remember that. Only reason Sonic even beat Super Scourge is not because Scourge ran out of juice, it's because Sonic duped him into dropping his Super state. Basically, The Anarchy Beryl (Anti-Mobius version of Chaos Emeralds) is what screwed him, since they were the exact opposite of Chaos Emeralds, instead of feeling revitalized and energized after dropping his Super transformation (like Sonic says he does when he drops his Super state) the opposite happened, and Scourge felt drained of all energy.
This has been another edition of 'Why Ken Penders is an Asshole'. I loved the Archie comic series and it was so frustrating how they pulled the plug on so many long running plots.
Looking back at the Sonic comics, I really do appriciate them even more now considering a lot of the ideas that we lost. I thought Scourge was kinda cringy at first. Take into effect that he is still basiclly just Anti-Sonic with a new color scheme, we really can't consider him too original, especially when dealing with Sonic evil recolors seem to be as common as fish in the sea. It wasn't until they started doing more with all the hedgehogs that I started to see why he worked and why he was fun. He's everything that Shadow could no longer be. Shadow WAS supposed to be anti-Sonic game wise but even he ended his life on a heroic note before being brought back as the 'dark, bad boy' animu rival. He's....well, he's everything girls go nuts over with the whole bad boy anime trope but he's still not EVIL. Scourge on the other hand encapsulates everything that could be with Sonic if he were evil and it's not just as simple as going 'IF SONIC WE EVIL, HE'D KILL EVERYONE AND STUFF'. Nah, Scourge takes the things we love about Sonic but cranks it up to an annoying degree. He's not snarky, he condescending. He's not fun loving, he's obsessed with destruction. He's arrogant, he's uncaring, petty and jealous of some of the members of his team (evil Antonie anyone?). He's Sonic on a bad day but as Sonic retorted, HE'S Scourge on a good day...and seeing that retort get under his skin was glorious.
@@SuperSonicWarrior93 Same. It was a missed opportunity. Would’ve been cool to see it on Cartoon Network’s Friday night block ( it probably would’ve been rated TV-PG)
While Scourge sure had some rather unfortunate moments of "Ow the edge", I really did like him and would have liked to explore aspects of his character, like how his past and the knowledge of other realities impacted him. Sure liked how he changed his look and all because he was sick of being just the evil version of someone else. That could have been so much fun to explore.
Exactly and to be honest that in of itself was an interesting detail of his character. I used to think "I get that his personality and demeanor is the complete opposite to Sonic's playful but honorable soul but how is the punked out, edgy attire in anyway translated from his counterpart?" And then realized that was the point, he aspired to have his own identity to which he succeeded with in spades lol
@@Raiz136 You know I really appreciate when Sonic is a shonen instead of Mario copy. It's more original plus I really like Ian.He kinda reminds me Akira Toriyama and Eichiro Oda.
The issue with Sonic's birthday where Scourge first shows up was one I took with me on vacation and read several times over to the point where my mom had to tell me to put it down. I'll never forget him and his stories regardless of whether or not Sega wants me to remember.
I seen Scourge is one of a badass yet arrogant hedgehog to be his own hedgehog despite being a bad version of his good counterpart, not honorbound and fights dirty, he is a version of Sonic who is kinda like Sonic himself. So, hey, I like the guy for being who he is just by his own actions alone. :3
Despite being well-written, Scourge always felt like he was stuck in the over-saturation of characters the franchise had. If only he had some factor/purpose that allowed him to stand out more as an individual, & not just another character/plot device. 🤔
@Dylan Ogega (🙏🥺... hear me out.) We ALL use *dialogue* to *articulate,* *communicate,* *conversate,* collaborate, educate & tolerate. So I celebrate & congratulate the fact I'm not illiterate by NEVER stopping to use the *lingo* of my *vocabulary.* I'm quite adept with *etymology* & I can assure you that my *terminology* is accurate. I do KNOW what I'm *talking* about, & I'll *tell* you if you'll take the time to listen. You have a firm grasp of the *text,* but falter with the *definition* by misinterpreting my *context...* & you're *sentence* structure could use a little work. I'm NOT trying to insult you, unlike your poorly *worded* footnote(Although, I do enjoy the irony of it!). I'm merely *saying* I know how truly difficult *language* can be. As I've spent my entire childhood CONSTANTLY having to *re-read* & *rewrite* everything over & over again. Honing my *reading* comprehension & *literation* skills in order to overcome my dyslexia🔡😵🔢... formerly known as "being stupid". One of the reasons I worked SO hard to power through it all was the option to go nextdoor & play with my friend, Richard(a Sega kid). ESPECIALLY after one fateful Friday night back in 1991! Where my friend & I, along with countless other kids at the time, were inadvertently becoming the founding members of a fanbase. Who's collective hype has fueled the franchise for the last 30 YEARS!🤩🎮📺🎮🤯 And I(like many) used my skills as a GODDAMN wordsmith to send fan letter after fan letter, with pages of questions asking about the lore. I got to learn the name Miles Prower long before Sonic 2 came out, even before he gained the nickname "Tails" in production. My friend Richard received a 2 page backstory for Sonic that was VERY different from what they went with in the canon. Back then, Sega was only trying to see if they could create a successful platformer game, so the lore was pretty bare bones. And when millions of fan letters hit their mailroom the following week, they looked to other popular franchises & fan mail for ideas. Even as kids, we realized that the comics were based on the OG speedster, The Flash. At one point, it was even softly promoted as a more kid-friendly alternative, as it traded graphic imagery for more zany action. This lead to the evil doppelganger idea for the next big bad, enter Bad Sonic(Reverse Flash). As fans, we kept sending letters asking questions... Twin? Clone? Robot? Alternate timeline?... & fan art of ideas we thought were cool at the time. Drawings of Red Sonic(Knuckles), with half his face ripped off like Terminator & metallic hedgehog skeletons(Sonic Robots). Believe it or not, there was actually a fair amount of hate from fans for Metal stealing the thunder from the OG evil hedgehog. And years later, another hedgehog antagonist takes the clone idea(Shadow). Becoming Scourge WAS pretty cool, he's like a living Master Emerald now! And I personally don't care if it makes him look kinda like that guy from Sonic Underground. The colors were arguably the only good thing about that show. So by all means take, the franchise has taken FAR more from him! BUT he uses his newfound power to pull the same old shtick... (sigh) Like the franchise, I admire this character's ability to be entertaining & stay strong, despite being shat on more times than Waluigi. And KUDOS for managing to stay on top of the pile he started 30 years ago!... but it's not enough. Like a sundae without ice cream, he's flash without substance. The extras are GOOD, but ultimately leaves you unsatisfied & wanting more. He needs to have a factor, like a personal connection to the other characters and the world around him. And/or a purpose, motivating him to achieve some personal goal. I'll admit more established characters like Robotnik, Knuckles & Shadow have(at times) become "cardboard cutouts". But back then, that's how most characters started. With only a handful of them getting enough personality/development to make them INDIVIDUALS. Who can standalone in their own story, with or without Sonic. Until that happens, he & the others stuck in over-saturation(Which mostly comes from the comics, as they are cheaper to produce.) won't be much more than a tool. Used simply to push the plot forward, before being shipped back to the toolbox until more filler is needed. But as a fan, I'm not worried. Like Bad Sonic/Scourge, we're GODDAMN determined & REFUSE to die! We managed to convince a MAJOR motion picture to get redesigned! Also, all those OG fans of yesteryear are all grown up. And some of them are in fact writing for the franchise, giving us the "more IN-depth & consistently characterized" stories we've been waiting for! I STILL have high hopes for Sally, Scourge, Walter, even Big! So there's no point to getting hung up over *jargon.* After all, it's just *WORDS...* it's how we use them that matter!✌️😉 👏🥳Happy 30th Anniversary Sonic the Hedgehog, & thanks for helping kid me make dyslexia my bitch! 👊😎👍
@@dc7981 Or because "another Sonic, but evil" was too much of a gimmick to be/stay interesting. But I don't consider becoming green to be the same as completely changed. Can i point out that Fiona Fox was Basically Scrouge version of Tails(Not Really though) So in a Way they are The Sonic and Tails Shipping. That im sure some people have seen on the Internet.
@Dylan Ogega I said not Really Though. That was Me Referring to Anti-Tails. Scrouge and Fiona are Basically the Sonic and Tails Pair. I'm sure that what they was going for.
I hate how Ken Penders thinks he owns Scourge when he shouldn’t. I think his main argument for having the rights to him was that because he was originally Evil Sonic, a character he introduced in the comics, meaning he owns Scourge. When Evil Sonic was just Sonic with a jacket and sunglasses, which wouldn’t hold up in court if Sega or Archie actually cared. And what makes me mad is that he takes credit for creating Scourge when it was Ian Flynn who created (redesign Evil Sonic) and made him a much better character, making Scourge feel like a true opposite to Sonic.
He is (or was) as his name suggests the bane of all whom he encountered. as his adjacent counterpart is the protagonist that everyone in mobius holds some degree of respect and admiration for, he is of course the opposite, the one whom everyone greatly dreads and fears. I've always loved the concept of the multiverse, and imo it in of itself and the mirror/anti-world trope never gets old. But it's a real shame the Archie comics universe will likely never feature in the mainstream continuity.
Scourge's legacy was destroyed by one simple thing. Archie couldn't afford to keep paying royalties to his creator, who somehow Sega never sued to claim ownership of his characters created for the Sonic comic, so Sega and Archie opted instead to wipe away all of the original characters, which between the Super Genesis Wave and the reboot, just left fans heartbroken in the aftermath of so many characters with strong ties to the main cast vanishing from existence. The Super Genesis Wave was Sega snapping their fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet, only this time there was no possibility of a time heist to undo it.
Scourge is one of my favorite Sonic characters! I'd never forget him! I may portray him differently than the official comics, but still! He's badass, and to top it off, he controls lightning (that or it was literally a thunderstorm where I saw him with it)!
His Father didn't love him, he had to absorb Chaos Energy just to fight on par with Sonic which didn't last long, he's the embodiment of a Sonic OC gone bad, and then he got wiped out by the Super Genesis Wave... Heartbreaking doesn't begin to cover it.
Because Ken Penders is a greedy killjoy who would sue Sega again if they tried. He sued them when Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood came out due to the villians resemblance to the Dark Legion. He’s why they can’t use Echidnas at all other then Knuckles ever since then.
I like to think Scourge was saved by being on his home dimension, while the Super Genesis Wave only occurred on Mobius Prime. In my opinion he reconquered anit Mobius and was once again King.
Don’t let this glazing fool you. Scourge is, and forever will be, a pathetic loser who wanted nothing more than to validate his existence by being everything Sonic isn’t.
@@Velocity_YT true I can't really defend that but look on the bright slide nothing ever felt rushed Which is my big complaint about the idw comics is all to rushed the story arcs go way to quickly
Idk why but Goku Black and Sonic have so many similarities,First of both of them are copy of the MC but both of them are not the same character as MC,both of them have that cocky additude and they dont give a f for anything, both of their super forms quite literally have the same color, kinda like Goku Black/Zamasu took inspiration from Scourge in some way.
MY SCOURGE RANT THIS HAS BEEN BUILDING UP FOR YEARS INSIDE IM SO SORRY: i have a very big love of the Archie comics but theres some stuff while ridiculous is great ! this is not one of them , im sorry but i cannot take him seriously no I REFUSE TOO his design is a crime, his dialogue is mind mindbogglingly awful i genuinely apologize to every citizen of good standing who has layed eyes upont on this mockery of character design, and if you really love scourge like thats cool! i just.... wish he didn't exist... at all.
I really enjoyed scourge the hedgehog he's a very fun character to me just wish that he was a playable character and in a game some day that would be fun
I thought Scourge was lame and unoriginal at first, mainly cause we already had Shadow, but he grew on me over time and I now see him as one of my favorite Sonic, let alone Archie villains.
I really liked Scourge The Hedgehog. As you said, he wanted to split away from Sonic and become his pwn character. When I read that he conquered his own world, I was blown away. That was epic and then he eventually gained his own team of unique individuals with Fiona, a girl who tried to be a hero, but went down the dark path and I loved it. Will you please consider doing a video about Enerjak?
TWO QUESTIONS!! 1. Are you going to cover Frontiers Sonic given his new abilities that he gained in the game? 2. Are you reading the IDW Comics, and if so, you planning on doing a video on Surge the Tenrec and her powers?
