Lauri is back from an undisclosed disadvantage after losing on July 27. Originally uploaded by Christopher Ryan. NBC game show hosted by Chuck Woolery.
I felt bad for Gwendolyn--she had a really good first day and seemed like she could have gone on a run. Then Lauri showed up. Even then, had it not been for the final Sprint word, she might have had a chance.
Hmm...I notice how the audience can sometimes react to letters, or letter choices made by players (like at 5:43). Seems like it could be a bit unfair as it could potentially influennce a player.
On the July 27 taping, Charlie Tuna said in an end disclaimer that a Sprint Round was replaced due to a production problem. On the same episode, Birgit Sutherland pressed her buzzer during a Speedword segment before Chuck said GO on a word, possibly disadvantaging her opponent Larry Schwartz. This might have also affected Lauri Irving's run too. It's one of the two or something else.
The only "disadvantage" I saw, or at least close to it, was that her opponent seemed to double-call on the first word. The answering before saying Go, as the other poster mentioned, disadvantaged the crossword player.
@@wschmrdr You know I had to rewatch that part...you're right. She did double call on the first word. So...Birgit Sutherland did disadvantage two contestants. They made the right call for Lauri to return. 1989 this was an interesting year for TWO champions to return to resume their reigns thanks to something unexpected.
That sprint was very much doable with the right letter; I had it in time. Not sure if I would have hit the first one as quick, but had the second one quicker.
