When I worked as a house painter, I would collect up all the copper wire scraps after the electrician was finished. The electricians never picked it up because the house builder had paid for it. I could not prep and paint until the floor was clean so I was already sweeping the floor. I easily filled a 5 gallon bucket per house. I would then strip the insulation off while watching tv at night so I could sell it as shiny copper. it gave me extra money which i needed as a single parent.
That was cool to watch! Especially the separating the types of metal for a better pay put! That wire stripper actually looked like fun - makes sense now why you cut cords off . Thanks Taco!
Good morning to you Taco. I always enjoy when you go to the scrap yard. Today you got a good payout on your last day of going to the scrap yard this year. I hope that you and Salsa have a wonderful day 💝. Take care of yourself Taco.
Taco stacks! Taco stacks! Taco stacks! For the win of the day!!!! Thank you so much for taking us along to the scrap yard!!! It is always so cool that you thinking of all of us too !!! I appreciate you so much! Stay safe stay great and keep up the good work! Stay warm!!! Hugs and head scratches for Salsa pup
For what you brought in... That's a pretty good payday. I usually pack the entire 8' bed of my truck before going to the yard. Small amounts I take my car to save on fuel. The most steel I've taken in 1 trip was 1300 lbs!
Wow! That was interesting Taco! I now know that I knew nothing about metals! Lol. Good chunk of cash, so you did well. Yes, if we didn’t have expenses, we’d be in fine shape. Blessings to you and Salsa! Happy & Healthy Nee Year! ❤️✝️
To maximize you copper haul... It's worthwhile to cut off all the solder joints to maximize your #1 copper buckets. If there's not much solder on a piece, I just sand it off. Also, if some #1 wire/pipe is a little green... You can soak them in a vinegar bath to make it bare bright copper.
I actually have a non-motorized strip mister. The shaft chucks up to a drill. The key for stripping wire is to having the gauges sorted out so you can do all of one size before adjusting the cutting wheel. But it sure beats having to use a razor blade and pulling wire by hand!
Hi Taco. Not a bad chunk of change . I know you put a lot of work into it and you work hard. I do like to see the results at the scrap yard. I can’t wait to hear how much scrap you saved from the land fill. Take care. PEACE.✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️🥰🥰🥰🥰🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🥰🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I agree with you. I bought an expensive van, someone talked me into, and it was supposed to be a ladies van, so the lugnuts took a special tool to take them off, and a flat tire meant hauling it to a dealer. My town was doing road construction, so I had at least one flat tire a month. I ended up getting regular lugnuts for it. Best $11 I ever spent!😉
Well you got close to $100, I was hoping for the $150. I'd guess when stripping wire, if separated by size, when large amounts of the same stuff collected, it would improve you efficiency in the process. Thanks for showing the scrap yard again, always intresting 👍👍
Don't you lot get cash for pop cans and beer cans? In California when you buy certain beverages you pay the CRV fee. You get that back at the junkman. My junk runs usually have Cans. bottles, plastic drinking water and other plastic, steel, low grade aluminum like cat food cans and old bike parts like aluminum rims. I save all my jar lids and food cans, any little bit of steel buts it so low paying its almost not worth the space it takes up in my garage. .
Your scrap yards prices were close to what I’m getting right now. Last week #1 was $3.19, #2 was $2.95 and brass was $2.05. They also gave us $3.16 for what they called Reading Copper.
The answer to wire peeling is to have a number of machines equal to the different diameters of wire so you don't have to adjust the machine!.😂 And, of course, you need a number of impact drills....😂😂😂 I do have a friend who has a sewing machine for each color thread she uses, 8 of them.
You should do some videos tidying up your garage and sheds, cole the cornstar always does it and it's so satisfying,a tidy work space equals a tidy mind it's not all about the dollars!
I weigh the higher dollar material like the bb copper because the scrap yards use 1 pound as there measurement so if it like a pound and a half thy round down the ones i go to
I watched you strip wires a while back. but i have that same striper. it is great. ive had mine for years. I have paid for mine over and over easy as pie. not really if you get the right plate set up bud. You have to set up a holder to have the wire come from the top or upper angle and it will slice them much better bud.
My 20years old son brought home lots of wire and stripped out the copper that he took it to the scrap yard and got £200 ,he gets it from work otherwise it would be thrown away, he is a electrician in England
'Morning Taco! I'm like you, I like to guess how much you may make. Very interesting how prices fluctuate. I guess inflation affects all areas in terms of value...Take care and stay warm. Hugs to Salsa! 🤑🤑🫂🫂
Never knew that about brass...Wasn't sure about those old brass knobs I sent ya awhile ago....(Hope ya scrapped em).... Can't you use a pair of needle nose pliers to straighten the bent wire by just pulling it through?.... I know nothing about this ....was just a thought.....I am still dodging roofing nails and pieces of sharp aluminum from pool cages..... We just had a tornado (small one) so more junk on the roads to dodge.....Dang it by a dollar... Not bad though.....
@@vaca4643 Better tell Taco about that if he found all that Jackie he probably would have a $100 maybe more I didn't know you went through a tornado I hope it didn't hit your house. Please tell us that it didnt?
@@angelan2764 Nope dodged that one....Hit 4 roads over...I was glad it went passed us....just had my roof done the day before....No one was hurt thankfully...just more damage to already damaged homes....😥
I hate to say it, but they kinda ripped you off. No way those containers you brought that stuff in weighed as much as they say. I would have argued with them about that, sorry. I mean, they took off 23 pounds for your sheet. What did you have it in that weighed that much. I am sorry, but it really gets me when they do this to people. You should have gotten more for that.
