IT WAS THE TINS!! Thank you, thank you for this video! The noise was soooo bad and embarrassing every time I made a left turn. My mechanic couldn't find the source of the noise, but you helped me find it!
In my autos class we would work on other teachers cars and we came across stuff like this. Man, I hope my high school let's us do autos class again this year. Loved that class
At first I missed the front wheel sounds and thought, oh this is not for me, then I kept watching and when he rotated the back wheel, BAMM!!!, that was the sound. So I went out and BAMM!! the front disc brake pads are much lower then the back, so I am going to order some replacements tomorrow. If the scrapping is something more, at least now I'll have new pads :) Thank you.
That’s the exact sound my front driver side tire is making @5:55 but I just put new brakes and rotors on and didn’t notice it till after I did the new ones
Subscribed! I’ve been trying to figure out my grinding issue at a glance and looking on forums that go over a million different niche issues but this guide is super helpful! I suspect it’s one of the issues you mentioned above OR a CV axle issue. Going to check on it this week
I have a scraping noise when I take sharp turns. I asked around and everyone was saying it’s the wheel bearing. Everybody I asked was wrong. I recently had tie rods replaced. I found out they were installed on the opposite sides.
Another great video. Saving me many thousands doing the work myself and doing it better than the rushed on-the-clock mechanic downtown who cuts corners to get it done faster saying "they will never know that we stripped that bolt hole and used tinfoil to snug it back up."
Good video, but I would never ever leave an old brake line hanging even for a second. Weight of the caliper can extend the cracks and shorten the life of the brake line even if it doesn't cause immediate failure.
Thank you for this video. I did learn a lot. I've been having a brake issue. I hear both a scratching and a chirping sound. Both rhythmic and both happening in the same rhythm, in correlation with speed. I've had the rotors and pads replaced, an axel replaced, a bearing hub replaced, found out that the bolts that are supposed to be on my rotors (2011 Honda Civic) were not installed. None of these things solved the issue. Now my mechanic wants to order factory rotors and pads "hoping" that will solve the issue. Even though the front rotors and pads were replaced less than 2 months ago. I read an article that the chirping could be related to the brake booster? But the chirping is specifically on the right front. And the chirping eventually got to the point where it was happening whenever the car was moving, regardless of whether or not I was braking. I don't understand why three different shops have all basically been guessing at this. No one can seem to pin point the cause. I wish you were in North Carolina lol
You guys may just be BEST... (maybe even better than Eric the car guy). This was the exact problem I have. After watching your vid on the top 5 issues with Dodge grand caravans I assumed it was a warped rotor (which I think you may have overlooked in this video) due to overheating of an undersized brake, but now I have a much better idea of all the things to look for! This is about the 4th or 5th time you have, apparently, come to my house looked at my vehicle and made a vid on how to address the issue with the van. I will definitely buy my brake kits form you. Thanks!
Ok, so my Husband replaced the front brake pads on my 2006 Pontiac Solstice and every since then when I turn the steering wheel to the right it makes a terrible loud sound. PLEASE HELP! Any suggestions?
That's why everyone that know about cars and brakes will tell you that you most change pads in pairs not just one side like whoever's the owner of that car didn't care much for it.
After changing a rear brake I'm getting a squeaking noise while driving but particularly when I turn the vehicle. What could be the cause and how to fix it
I have an 07 honda pilot and most of my brake dust shields have rusted off. I haven't had them replaced due to the labor involved to access the area. Is it okay to not replace them and just drive without them?
Great video but I couldn't believe a rear bad pad etc would cause a grinding noise when turning a wide left...wouldn't that noise be constant..whether turning or straight
Mine the scraping sound comes and goes. Will have to check the dust shield. It doesn't make any noise when I break and I see lot of meat on the outer pad. Will have to check the inner one.
Help please, seat leon 2.0 TDI car only makes a grinding sound when turning right.. no power - no noise, power - noise, more power - louder noise No noise at all when turning left
My 14 Malibu just started making a scraping noise (or I just noticed as it’s now warm enough to roll windows down) when I turn left . I’m guessing this is the issue as I haven’t done anything with breaks in awhile.
My Town and Country makes this sound when turning left without pressing the brake. Can this still be brake related and why only when I turn left? Gonna take a guess at answering my own question and say the onboard computer and/or ABS is automatically applying a certain amount of brake pressure to keep the rotation balanced when turning.
My car has brembos and one of the the rear wheels back brake pad just fell off bc the tin and pins fell off so it only had one pin and i replaced the rotor, tins, pins and brake pads and its scraping my rotor making a scratch ring around the rotor i dont know the issue now so if any advice please comment
that rear brake looked like mine on a 2010 Expl I bought new. I had to hammer it all apart. thick scales of rust. brakes have never been changed till now.
When I make turns on my truck the back wheels make a sound as if I was traveling on a gravel road it only happens when I turn left or right do you have any idea what it might be??
Hi, How are you? i need help not related to this video? Today i rotated my car ( Toyota rav4 2017 xle hybrid) tires, Front tire goes to back and Back tire goes to Front. This is first time i did that? Before i rotated, I did not feel any grind after brake. After I rotated the tire, i feel grind when i put the brake, not noise. The brake rotors and pads are good condition. Please, help me, what could possible be grind feel. Thank You.
My car sounds like that when I turn. But the weird thing is that. It only makes that sound when making the first turn after a long hours of parking But after that first turn, I don't hear the sound anymore
I have a 2004 Mazda tribute.... it makes a loud grinding noise when I drive... midas says I need a new wheel bearing for the front passenger side... would that be the cause??? After watching this video.. im a little bit more skeptical of what they said... I think there is more to it... maybe you guys could tell me???
Do cheap Chinese-made replacement rotors rust much more easily than the OEM GM rotors that came new on the vehicle in 2007? Since I got my original rotors replaced, I get this scraping noise after not driving the car for 2 weeks. It mostly goes away after driving it on the highway, except it is more pronounced when making very sharp turns, like turning into my driveway or into a parking space. Any ideas? Would replacing with coated rotors solve this?
+Edward Norton We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
