Hello scrappers and planet lovers. In this video, I do an experiment to see if it is worth taking apart ladders for clean extrusion or leaving whole and getting dirty extrusion price. I will show you how to safely and effectively identify and separate the metals in order to help maximize your profit and divert as much of the material away from the landfill as possible.

Final breakdown: 160lbs ladder = 121lbs clean extrusion (121 x $1.32lb) + aluminum 5lbs (5 x $075lb) + 28lbs tin (28 x 12lb) = $166.83 compared to unbroken 160lbs x $0.32 =$51.20

I finally subscribed to you and its been worth it. I have learned so much. I know the metals, hand tear apart but with your videos know what electric tools to use. Thanks!

You can also drill out those rivets so you don't waste those grinding disks!! 😉

I recently took apart a couple of old walkers. The pins I pulled were half magnetic half aluminum. I thought they were all aluminum until I touched the magnet. Go figure. You made me get up and start to recycle . Hadn’t planned on that tonight 😂. ✌️💚

Good day James Yes having over 100 lbs. it does add up. Bent or broken ladders I read may not be sold, unsafe! Ths

Should have used a reciprocating saw on that ladder. The blade would still be good if you know how to use it.

Ladders are great. Went as dirty aluminum with the fiberglass sides. /cheers

I looked at that option of leaving the fibreglass ones whole, but then I weighed the aluminum by itself and I got a lot more for the extrusion than dirty $1.40lb instead of $0.32 lb

Your videos are good and all but there to in depth every scrap yard works differently my out here in Tottenham Ontario that would be That would be classified as irony, aluminum steel, with any aluminum on it way less of Way less worth here I take my stuff to aims recycling in Newmarket

You are correct about the yards. I also think it depends on the person working the scale house on the day I bring the stuff in, since I can bring one thing in on one day and get a certain price or category, and another day same product but less value or classified differently. I find this most with circuit boards. The nice gold ones from cd roms for example Igor over $2lb and the next time, same item, but different guy and got $1.10lb

Was wondering if you could take a large enough drill tip and drill out the rivets?

Love your videos, Tin Man! Quick question - would those hollow tube-like rungs on the ladders be extrusion, or just sheet? PS I'm working on opening my own little scrap workshop. Do you have any stickers? Would love one if so! xxx

I had a shop, but the price from shoplift was too much. I am thinking about doing it again eventually in the future. Will keep you posted. As for the rungs, as long as you leave them attached to the ladder it will count as extrusion. I do have a few pieces from the supports that are aluminum and if I brought them in separate they would be sheet, but if I bring this entire load in together probably going to get all extrusion price.
