I remember, as a young girl in the 70s, my grandfather showing me how to take apart and fix tube TVs 📺 and radios 📻. It was so much fun. 😊

Great tear down. I've stripped a few and save every bit of aluminum and all the transformers. It all adds up when filling a bucket. Various future projects planned with the rest.

After I saw your whip play, I was ready to follow you like Indian Jones down the deepest, darkest scraping adventures, but then, you were thwarted by a thin panel of aluminum! How will we ever be sure the treasure wasn’t at the end of that TV cave?! Those weren't snakes, they were just cables.

Haha, I wouldn't have used the word 'thwarted' Shane! It was a decision based on lots of hassle & mess for very little return! I'm sticking to my guns on this one! Besides, I'm sure there were hundreds of large hairy spiders in that TV cave... 🕷🕷🕷😱

LCD’s have some nice pieces of Perspex in the screen. Not sure about plasmas

I've scrapped out many plasma tvs - 50+ this year alone. The ribbons and connectors from the mother board forward to the screen including the screen tabs are a good source of gold. Plasmas have 3 glass panels, one is loose and comes off with the front panel, the other two are glued/bonded to the main body panel and is very time consuming to remove. If the panel is aluminium I'll take them off.

Thanks Tom, but I think I'll leave those panels alone! Too much mess for too little return! I'm not into collecting gold contacts - I'm yet to be convinced that it's even close to viable!

I love pulling apart TV's some are glued and a bit dangerous to separate but I'm learning that dirty ally pays better than just chucking it. Cast and sheet pay better than domestic in Brisbane. Isn't it a shame plastic doesn't get recycled. I like pulling everything out but do end up with a lot of plastic to the tip. Our transfer station is free if you separate, even tyres and asbestos if it is properly wrapped. Thanks for the journey Chris

Redlands council Its probably factored into our rates but it helps stop illegal dumping

That base aluminium is bonded to the panel. They were a common failure in LG. Not worth the bother for scrap. Glass breaks easily and its a cut hazard if anyone will even take it as irony ally. 17:51 the YSUS board, which was a common failure in those. That model was one of the first to sell for $2000, and they sold lots of them around 2005.

Just for interest, I went back and grabbed all the caps FF. Total weight about 250g. At 90c/kg that's approx 22 cents. I don't think I'll bother with them in the future 😊
