Arduino and grbl powered scrappy plotter (pen plotter) draws a drawing from the dailycatdrawings Tumblr!

And here's some more details on what I did here. I used Inkscape and the GcodeTools plugin. This plugin enables you to get Gcode out of a drawing like the one I used.

Once I had the Gcode, all there was left to do was to feed it to the Arduino via the serial port. On the Arduino I am running grbl. The grbl project allows you to get your Arduino to act as a very performant Gcode parser & stepping motor controller all at once.

On the Arduino I use a CNC Shield with 2 A4988 stepper motor driver. The up down movement is done with a servo. Which reminds me that I didn't use the original grbl library, but rather a fork of it.
Github "robottini" made this very nice fork which let's you control a Servo motor via Gcode.
