I passed out in 1990 57th Recruit Platoon .. Scratch was tougher as I remember, in an ice-cold river with dead sheep :-) no nice circle to crawl around. Passing out parade brings back great memories, paused and replayed the salute.We were not allowed to fire blanks in the salute , Bn commander said it might frighten the crowd. Didn't see it here either ...pity
It must be me but after 22 years from Trooper to Troop Sgt we were told there was nothing in the army called Scratch only extended battle run, must be the Cab.
I could never understand this, or the need for it, nor when it came in. They made me do it to a 3 Star cse once and none of the other instructors could tell me the how or why. It proves nothing, nor did it instill anything in the people we were training. When I trained, we just got creased all the time. Some clown probably saw it in a film.
@John H We once had a clawhammer transfer into us from the training depot. That depot was all the soldiering he ever did. He was good at torturing courses in the evenings and at night when they should have been having their down time. Six months is what he lasted in a line unit.
This carry on was ruled illegal in the Defence Forces many years ago so I cant for the life of me figure out why its being done or why one of the instructors would be stupid enough to put it on line.
It say scratch 2 BN. The 2nd Infantry hasn't existed for a number of years now. This film therefore has to be from some time ago. Old style arms drill as well.
its the army its supposed to be tough...... scratch is a right of passage everyone goes through it even still today. and theres nothing in this video that illegal wtf are you even on about? no1 hurt or anything all it is is a beasting session
