Rip Wes Craven This was the last film that he directed and had a part of before he passed away unfortunately we lost a horror movie titan that day! He gave us 2 of the most legendary franchises nightmare on elm street scream and so many other classic movies!
4 at least. Last House on the Left. The Hills Have Eyes. A Nightmare on Elm Street. Scream. Stone cold classics at major genre turning points. Then you have Serpent and the Rainbow. The People Under the Stairs. Shocker. New Nightmare. My Soul to Take. Wes Craven rules.
@@bloodlinefilms I agreed with you until New Nightmare. That was just essentially a rehash of some might consider his best work The replica kill in the hospital just didn’t do it for me. The wall dragging, the same cut accross the sternum, the same screams…. I didn’t hate it. It was a throwback to the original. But I didn’t love it either
@@hannahstevenson27 it precipitated Scream. Point being every time the genre had a major shift in tone Wes was there. Hitchcock style thriller to grindhouse exploitation? Last house on the left. Grindhouse to more elaborate concepts? Hills have eyes. Slasher gets stale? Nightmare. Heightened slasher gets stale? Scream and its satire. But. The meta self aware commentary of horror movies and slashers specifically were addressed in New Nightmare first. It was the prototype for that eras version of deconstruction. In fairness Friday the 13th VI did it first but more self aware.
I'd like to see him do "CURSED", the werewolf movie by Wes Craven (director) and Kevin Williamson (writer) that was sadly giving the finger from studio interference by the Weinsteins.
This one is my personal favorite. Yeah, Rory Culkin was real obvious, but Jill/Emma Roberts actually surprised me. Getting to see Emma Roberts go full nuts was honestly a joy and Hayden Panettiere was great as Kirby! Of course Neve Campbell was awesome as always as Sidney delivering one of my all time favorite one liners "You forgot the first rule of remakes, Jill. Don't fuck with the original!"
@@brandon17760 you’re right! I wonder if it necessarily has to be a remake or if Charlie was referring to modern horror films. If so, then that broadens the movies.
I always though Judy was the secret 3rd killer. That’s why Jill says she is confident she can get away with it. I still believe it. Especially when Judy gets shot by Jill right in the vest.
@@ajaysbooth It’s the millenium….motives are incidental! 😜👍🏾 No but it could be her trying to live thru the murders with Dewey to get her man. Or a vendetta against Sidney who never really gave Judy the time of day. The creepy school play scene comes to mind. She also tries to keep Gale out of the loop for seemingly no real reason.
This franchise is 1 of the best an most consistent kind of like decker shado this year he been 1 of the best an most consistent! It's always a treat to see you cover this franchise!
21:36 Charlie had one of the worst motives. An incel who thought Kirby took too long to notice him and thought Jill would love him if he helped her get famous when she was just using him and planned to frame him and Trevor for the murders.
Best sequel of the franchise. New one was meh. 3 was trash. That cafeteria scene in 2 ruins the movie for me. Like: HEY, HEY?!!, HEY!!!, REMEMBER HOW THE BOYFRIEND IN THE FIRST MOVIE WAS THE KILLER??!!, WELL LOOK AT ME!!, I’M. STANDING ON A TABLE AT SCHOOL SINGING ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE SIDNEY??!!, I’M DEFINITELY NOT THE KILLER BOYFRIEND!!’ I hate that fucking scene 😮and that movie rests on that scene…. Let’s be real here, who else remembers anything else about that movie?…
Great review. Honestly felt like the soft reboot leaned HEAVILY on Scream 4, to the point that I honestly kinda checked out on it at the midpoint and wasn't remotely surprised by the ending.
With so many fake out openings to this movie I'm hoping for Wes Craven to pop out of the ghost face mask flip me the bird and thank me for my money - Dead meat 2018
I was tempted to cut in the part of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - when at Miramax studios, Ghostface is unmasked, and revealed to be an orangutan. The lead actress calls cut, and is like "A monkey, Wes? You guys aren't even trying anymore." Wes responds "Our focus groups tell us that people love monkeys." At which point Jay & Silent Bob break in, scoop the ape up, and flee the scene, Jay screaming "WE LOVE THIS MONKEY!" Wes just looks at the chaos and says "See?"
It's definitely the second best of the Scream franchise. The original is still the best, but 4 brings back a lot of what was missing in 2 and 3. Two lacked any investment in the killer, who barely or never appears until the reveal, and three was just too bland and self satisfied. Yes, it's a bit easier to guess the killers in this movie, because we've got our established cast (who it won't be) and a smallish roster to select from, but it's decent all in all. As someone put it, I loved Scream, even the worse ones, and I wanted more of it, right up until the very second that Wes Craven died and I instantly never wanted another Scream movie or property ever again.
@@DeckerShado I’d watch the movie with your American dub rather than the awful American dub on the ACTUAL movie. ‘And we reveal the TROLL!….and the body count rises…….’
@@DeckerShado review with extreme wishful prejudice.. if you havnt already watched it may i recommend it heartily. just a good nonwoke unhollywood romp.. :-)
That one was quite entertaining... I can also recommend The Ritual, another Scandinavian set horror movie... although Trollhunter would probably make for a more fun review.
I'm baffled that Scream continues to be such a solid franchise despite having so many sequels, where most other horror franchise continue to get worse (With the exception of Scream 3 of course). Great video Decker, you're such an inspiration to smaller channels like me!
Thats how you can tell a parody was effective. Remember that time SNL shit on Sarah Palin and John McCain handily lost a presidential election? Tina Fey saying “I can see Russia from my hoose” destroyed that candidacy like a carpet bombing trying to knock down a house of cards.
Dude, I love you're videos, but the "Exit" where you plug you're other videos and social media caused a spit take. I now have to clean beer off my monitor, It made me laugh that hard. Keep up the Good Work Decker!
random request but you should review boss level, its a very fun time loop action movie with actual good fight scenes also frank grillo is the main character and the bad guy is mel gibson so its pretty great
I finally watched this movie after more than 11 years. Not to say I was avoiding the film due to preconceptions of quality, but more so due to the fact that it was one of, if not _the_ last projects that Wes Craven worked on before he left us. And I gotta say, for the man's last effort, he nailed it; Bravo, Wes...Bravo. This movie was far better than it had any right to be; the writing and the commentary were top notch. I feel like this movie was Wes' opportunity to vent a lot of frustrations he felt toward the 2010 remake of Elm Street, while also of course pointing out the general consensus of remakes as well; the general audience _hates them_ but movie studios will keep making them anyway. Decker is right in saying that, I had the killers pegged from the get-go. Something about this "out of nowhere cousin" that wasn't mentioned in any of the previous movies, really stuck-out to me. Then there's Culkin's character who I also pegged as being the accomplice. The way that Charlie seemed to intentionally shunt himself to the background while lamenting not being able to get with Kirby, really clued me in that he was going to be the second party. Though I got to admit, there were times where the movie did manage to trip me up and make me think there were possibly two accomplices - the Mom being one that I began to suspect after a while, mainly due to her complaining that no one asks about her scars. Still, really satisfying way to do the movie. The commentary on the power of victimhood in social media really was ahead of its time here. Honestly makes me wish Wes was still around today so we could get his take on how messed up it's all become. The only thing I didn't care for was Jill's performance - especially during the climax where she reveals herself. She seems to equate acting and emoting with "being loud." And god, her voice is so shrill and annoying when she gets loud. Made me want to knock her out for entirely different reasons. Plus, I sort of feel like the final ending falls apart, with there being next-to-no focus on how Jill intends to get away with it, now that Dewey and Gale wised up to her, and that she basically has been caught trying to kill Sydney. Still, I love the irony is that the movie ends on the reporters gushing over Jill, showing that she got what she wanted in the end - fame and recognition - only now she's too dead to enjoy any of it. Well, needless to say; this makes me feel a lot better about seeing Scream 5 and eventually Scream 6 when it comes. Rest in Peace, Wes...here's hoping that at least this franchise is in good hands, but no one will ever do it better than you.
Awesome review has always man, the intros have been really great too. I know it's a lot of work, but thank you so much for all of it and hopefully things are going well for ya Decker. No matter what I hope you keep going and punch thru cuz your a creator that I really admire and enjoy.
Loved the review as always Decker! I remember when this movie first came out, I didn’t particularly dislike it, but was sort of lukewarm on it. Seems to have gotten a bit better with time.
Decker my boi, do you have a favorite horror franchise? Hope youre doing good, and btw we wouldnt mind a new letsplay, lore video or infovideo about movie monsters hehe.
I feel like Friday the 13th is one that I slept on for a while, but once I really dug in I found myself enjoying every entry. Even the "bad" ones have that je ne sais quoi that means I can still find them highly entertaining.
@@DeckerShado agree bigtime, except for maybe 'goes to hell' which i skip. The others including the remake all have the entertaning factor. Btw I heard there might be a f13 series in works. So cheers for that.
Great review Decker, looking forward to the inevitable Scream 5 review, and I know some dumbass rando will say it's called Scream (2022), but it's pretty much Scream 5 and does the usual meta commentary by mocking the requels we've been seeing
It does make me wonder exactly what Scream 6 is going to have as a backbone for it's self awareness. We went - generic slasher movie, to sequels, to trilogies, to remakes and then requels. Eventually they're gonna run out of templates to mock.
@@DeckerShado whatever it is, it'll be interesting, though you might wanna prepare yourself for the film by watching "Ready or Not", which was made by the same people behind Scream 5
I got that same shirt Decker shado lol u got good taste my Guy! im not sure which I like better this or the most recent 1 im kinda leaning towards this! 1. Scream 1996 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 4 4. Scream 2022 5. Scream 3
Would a human being have the strength to completely sheath a knife like that from that position into someone’s forehead? I feel like that’s the human skulls is a little tougher than that. I could be wrong.
Yeah, I've spent years just trying to make nice videos, but RU-vid seems to determine video quality based on wildly different and always changing metrics. 😅
for the record, Decker, i love your show... ive been a subscriber for around 7+ years. Dont let RU-vid's BS get to you... i would love to hear your take on some TV series shows like Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Witcher or Breaking Bad for instance (not that would happen but it would be cool nonetheless). Appreciate all these years of making me laugh and hopefully to many more
The original version of the movie wasn’t supposed to be a hospital scene. The original plans was for the movie to end with Jill being rolled out on the stretcher and Sidney’s fate being up in the air. Scream 4 was supposed to be the start of a new trilogy. Scream 5 would’ve had Jill being stalked by a killer who was gonna expose her for being the killer in the last film..to hide her secret..Jill would have to kill again to keep her secret under wraps.
At this point Decker's got to have watched so many of these films if anyone could plan the perfect murder it'd be him. Guess if there're any woodchipper related murders in his general vicinity we know who to blame.
Love this movie, but I hate how they try some unique stuff in 2 throwaway scenes that make up the intro. First, letting us know there's 2 killers. Would make sense for us to see that instead of people playing guessing games as to who was where in a scene where the film make it look like it's 1 killer the whole time when theres a chance there was 2. Then they have a kill be from an unmasked person in the second part of the intro. Would have loved to see one of these movies play out where we know who one killer partway through or the whole time. 99% of the time someone is watching these, they already know who the killer is anyways so it would be a nice change. In the new Scream, there's a scene where the most alert and prepared character let's down his guard at such a bad time. He uncharacteristically had no sense of security or fear when alone that I thought he was in on it and we'd get half of the reveal early on. Would have been new and exciting to watch. I'd be more on edge because you'd never know when he would go mask off.
You're reaction to Jill being obvious is funny cause I had no idea and if you watch any scream 4 reaction video, most people don't either. I only remember 1 person that suspected her
Really? Cuz I avoided any of that before watching. Heck, I haven't sat down and watched Scream 5 yet. I was looking the whole time like "Yep, she's got the motive. Her wound is very convenient, calling back to the red herring in 2 but they never point that out, like they're intentionally being ambiguous with her. Doing a remake but turning it on it's head, it would make sense for Sydney to be the killer and she's Sydney's stand-in." It was through suspecting her that I nailed down Charley as my 2nd killer, because he's the stand in for Randy and Randy did have a crush on Sydney, so it all just kind of came together. I mean... if not them, who else is there to suspect?
As some one who installs that kind of door lock . the nod has been partly disassemble so that when she pulls on the handle it pulls for of the poor. it part of the instail process and not that hard to to so the kill simple set it up to brake ahead of time . he did plan to kill her in this place was waiting long enf to pull the wiring
Decker has a problem with the algorithm because he consistently uploads quality content. What he needs to be doing is CONSTANTLY uploading garbage. I'm talking daily episodes, about 10 mins long, with a quarter of their length being an ad for Raid Shadow Legends. YT laps that shit up.
