Whoa. I taught myself how to scream by working at and listening to Suicide Silence. He's the reason I have the super high screams I'm really proud of. Glad I went about things the right way!
Been watching vocal tutorials for about 14 years and you are definitely my favorite I’ve discovered. You make everything so simple and quick, yet very effective.
Same, between him and Mark at Kardavox Academy, they are paving the way and providing all the stepping stones for new vocalist to improve and take themselves to the next level. I’ve been doing screams since 2009, about 3 years ago I switched from false chord to vocal fry. All because I learned to do false chords the WRONG way and it caused major damage to my vocal chords and clean singing voice. Now I’ve got fry screams down packed and can do them second nature as natural and easy as talking. It’s helped me get back my clean singing vocal range, and improved my overall vocal chords quality, I no longer have any pain in my throat and I am able to do vocals for much longer than I used to. Back when I performed with my previous band 20-30 mins and I’d be done vocally, now I can easily do 1 hour sets and have no problems afterwards, we did a 3 hour set a couple months ago, it was 3 shows back to back in my hometown, at two bars and one brewery, and my throat felt fine afterwards, some of my friends I grew up with who also do screams were mind blown. I explained to them that we learned how to scream completely wrong, showed them a few videos explaining the dos and don’ts and now I’m teaching two of them how to do vocal fry. Anyways, went off on a tangent, back to what I originally stated, I agree with you. 😅
Incredible teaching methods in 30 seconds. It takes weeks or months to practice, yet you just taught someone how to scream in less a minute. You are a one-of-a-kind teacher. Keep up the good work👏🙂. I wish Mitch Lucker was here to witness this and possibly collaborate with you. Mitch, rest in peace. Gone but not forgotten. Lives on in our hearts forever🖤🤘
Man, i love you so much. When i was 18 i had to discover all of that by practice. Im 30 and you bring me inspiration to being vocalist again. I wish you good luck and prosperity! Thank you for inspiration!
Miss that dude for sure. I ride motorcycles myself and it's sad how many people we've lost on two wheels. Most of them just acting stupid..he was a legend.
Seeing tutorials like this for Mitch is so damn cool! I’ve always loved his scream but his scream wasn’t healthy & he blew out his voice a few times So I’m glad to see people teaching the healthy way to do his scream
Rest in Peace Mitch. I had the privilege to experience Suicide Silence at warped tour in 2010. At the Cricket Pavillion in Phoenix ,AZ. Also saw Whitechapel, and Emmure. I got to see Dillinger Escape Plan too at a different stage as well as Norma Jean. The Best memory of that day happened entirely by chance. I got hungry and went to a pizza stand after watching Whitechapel. After I pay for my slice, I turn around and directly behind me just standing there casually was Ben Savage, and Zach Householder. Nobody seemed to notice/recognize them. I just humbly shook their hands and said them that they are the most influential band to me next to BTBAM's album Colors, The Faceless Album Akeldama, and Suicide Silences The Cleansing. I only wish I had the courage to at least ask if it was possible to hang out with them. I didn't ask out of respect. I felt like they wouldn't be interested. it was very hot, and they were probably tired. It was definitely over 100F at that moment that day. Forever I'll remember being In the front lines of the wall of death. it was so epic. Nothing short of extraordinary. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7kb5tQxAMDM.html
Great! After barely more than half a year i have very deep and defined low screams. I can do CJ nad Ramos type shit and all that. But i suffered with my highs from the beginning, always failing to reach what i searched for. Based on this tutorial, i can do good highs now and i started making a new technique for myself which's base is this, but i added more tongue and now it sounds awesome! Thank you!
When I Meet Suicide Silence In RU-vid This Year, That Band Becomes My Only Favorite Deathcore Band Of All Time, Similar To Death Metal Like Death Band. I Am Lucky To Sing Like Mitch Lucker Because When I'm Trying To Make Screams Like Him I Did It Very Well Like Nothing.
Easy, just try your best to sound good but fail miserably. Whatever you sound like now, that’s already 1000x better than Will sounds. Dude is so overhyped, it’s not even funny. His little COD zombie snarls are so cheesy lmao the guy sucks
Hey I was wondering if you could make a video about pronouncing words and sentences while screaming. I can make the sounds really well but when I try to scream words or sentences I just cant get the same power and sound out of my screams. I do false chord screams but you could also include fry if you wanted to! Im sure it'd make for a good videos, I bet there more people than just me that have this issue. Thanks for your videos regardless! You are awesome!
A great tip I give you so that the bass comes out powerful is to put your hands in the shape of a cave so that it has more resonance, not for nothing did Mitch do it.
You’ve come to the right place! Here are some videos to start out with: False cord vs fry screams: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rvQmyYR2k9Y.html Breathing for metal vocals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wj-gqIPy_44.html Power ≠ tone: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0cxP1gt8Rx0.html We also have a whole program designed to help people learn vocals (like our YT channel but broken into even more detail) that you can learn more about here: extremevocalinstitute.com/evi-now Good luck! 😁
Ok guys I’m in the mood I’ll give you my vocal tips. Take it from someone who unlocked every vocal style over a decade ago while still in high school and lived those years as a prodigy god amongst mortal teens. I mean every style including the harder false chord agrostyle loud ones that can even reach pterodactyl inhale texture but exhaled that like mathcore or grindcore pushed boundaries for more often. That way you know I’m not cappin. First differ what a fry Vs a power fry. Learn that. Scream into your pillow every day so no one can hear you until you have like a couple of onsets of voice loss due to regeneration of scar tissue. That’s first. It’s going to lay the foundation for the other styles trust me. Next learn to growl . Then push it higher to mids then highs to get a feel of false chord. Learn inhales but also to help you feel pig squeals out. Use that to merge the exhale pig squeal with your now pronounced fry so you can reach whistle voice and strengthen your high end with the whistle voice. This next one is huge.. realize that by placing your hands on the side of your head like cupping your ears isn’t just a hearing aid it’s actually to hold your head tight and hard. Use this to your advantage cuz it helps you put out and maneuver around and range and work with texture until you have the experienced pressure points worked in. Once all that’s in. Start yelling high and adding that whistle crack you gained in there to give it a grindcore feel. Get louder and louder cuz agrostyle is banked on decibel levels. Don’t take the ear cup thing for granted. Just practice until all scar tissue is in place. Have fun.
Nice tutorial. But the tone here sounds more similar to Trevor Strnad than Mitch Lucker. And this also sounds more like a hybrid technique rather than pure vocal fry, which is how I think Trevor was able to get that strained and almost panicked tone in his voice but still have some bottom end. At least on Miasma and all the albums afterwards. Unhallowed was definitely all false chord because it had a distinct bottom end. I could be wrong, but typically when I think of a vocal fry I think of Dani Filth and Ihsahn where there is no distinct bottom end to the voice and the voice is primarily resonating upper harmonics and distortion rather than a distinct bottom end with pure white noise distortion. And not just black and extreme metal vocalists, but post hardcore and metalcore vocalists too. Like Matt from A7X and Vic from Pierce the Veil.
A lot of people squeeze to get their highs out which restricts the sound and leads it to sound very similar. But that squeezing can lead to a lot of fatigue and friction that can cause damage later on
@@alex_from_a_w_e_ you don’t want to squeeze in the throat for either false cord or fry screams. You want to stay as neutral as possible to ensure healthy technique. Air pressure ≠ squeezing and the vocal tract coming together slightly should not be thought of as squeezing or you’ll overdo it
