Scream Therapy podcast episode 35: Geoff Rickly of Thursday on addiction as mental health condition 

Before I knew how to cope with my mental health, I'd listen to the War All The Time record on repeat. Thursday mean a lot to me.

When I stopped listening to music that glorified mental health issues is when I started getting better. I feel like the music I listened to in high school played into glorifying my own issues.

Had no idea he was a struggling heroin addict. I am as well. Have been an opiate addict for 13 years. Heroin for 7 and most recently fentanyl. I am still trying to kick to this day. My mental health has been a disaster recently..I almost died last year from endocarditis, sepsis. And pneumonia all at once. Ended up having to get my tricuspid valve replaced from the endocarditis. My body was wrecked and I am still healing a year later. It kind of feels like I got hit by a semi truck. I don't think I'll ever be back to what I felt like before. This is what is getting me down and my mental health and I keep going back to the dope. I've been to jail once and rehab twice. Luckily my charge for dismissed and after the first bout of rehab I was sober for 5 months. But relapsed. The 2nd time I only did 3 weeks in rehab and wasted 4grand and relapsed quite quickly. I just didn't want to be there. Please send me positive vibes. I feel like it's impossible to get off this shit. it honestly helps in some aspects...gives me energy and helps with the pain but when I kick recently because I've been doing so much I get so fucking sick and I feel everything my body has went through. I just lost a good friend too after getting him some from my guy after getting a ride home from him 2 hours away. I desperately needed to get home and that was the only way hed come get me.He hadn't done it in a while and he od'd. I've been so depressed since and feel like it's my fault he's gone. I just hope I can get through this and feel happiness again and maybe find love. It's ruined my relationships, family trust, job opportunities, music. It's good to hear Geoff talk about this though. I had no idea he went through this shit too though...good to know we aren't alone...ever

Geoff is fucking amazing

My friend loved different bands and when we would go on long road trips I only liked certain songs of his, one of the songs was cross out the eyes it just really connected with me, then i started listening to all the albums, sadly we all got into that oxy craze which then turned to heroin, spent 3 years on methadone and now I look back and this is still one of my favorite bands of all time!

This meant a lot to hear. To know that someone i look up to has these same feelings that i thought were just some flaw in myself, that made me lesser than everyone else. I hope things keep looking up for him. He put the work in and fought for it and that means something.
