I was OBSESSED with Knight rider and I was so excited when this made for tv movie came out. I was so heart broken as a kid that nothing ever came of it. and to see it left like this breaks it all over again. I hope it makes its way back to glory!
I never liked that car back then because it wasn't nearly as cool, as well done, or as fast as the KITT Trans Am they chose to not use in the TV movie. But I'm glad to see it survive and looking a little better than last time I saw it and hope it goes to a good home.
Even as a kid watching the TV movie, I remember thinking how can I see KITT's red light go back and forth if the car is red? It should have been black!
This movie was just on the Charge! Network earlier today (10/20/21)... after seeing it, there's no surprise it was not picked up by a network. The old car is sooooo much cooler.

One of the cool things about Knight Rider 2000, maybe the ONLY cool thing, were the sound effects. Since the movie was set in the year 2000, the sound engineers went back to the movie 2001: Space Odyssey and borrowed a LOT of the sound effects and used them throughout the Knight Rider 2000 movie. If you pay attention to sound design, it was a nice Easter Egg.
I'd like to see the car fully restored. But it certainly looks better than it did last summer. I understand it's love vs economical in doing a full restore on that film car.
I loved the original Knight Rider show and the Knight Rider Historians are awesome, but I don't care for this abomination at all. It misses the whole point of the Knight Industries 2000 looking and driving like a normal car with hidden Sci Fi Features. It actually looks like being 20 years older than the slightly altered Trans Am's, as if it came straight out of the Pop Art Era. And it's missing more than a paint shop ... the surface is wobbly and the lines are not going through very well.
I grew up watching the original Knight Rider tv show and I never missed an episode when it was new. When 1990 rolled around and they released the Knight Rider 2000 TV movie, I was so excited to see how they upgraded KITT. I have to say that I was disappointed. KITT should always be all Black in color. I never liked the red paint job. I do find it bizarre that the producers of the show didn’t use a modern Trans Am or the Pontiac Banshee for that matter. Clearly they had very different people working on Knight Rider 2000 in comparison to the original tv show. Anyways, it’s super cool to see that an original Knight Rider 2000 Hero car is still intact and in one piece. Hopefully it finds a good home where they completely restore it.
Because GM didn't want Universal to mod out the Pontiac Banshee concept car. They didn't use a Trans am because the movie came out in 1991 and at that time the Trans Am was still using the same chassis as the original KITT back in 1982. That chassis was used for 10 years and this movie was supposed to take place in the year 2000. So the chassis would be 20 years old in the timeline of the film.
I very much doubt it. However, even as a huge fan of the original, to use an 82' car for a movie set in the year 2000 would lose KITT's state-of-the-art status.
@@NickKnatterton. The Knight 4000 is the 'KIFT' that keeps on giving, lol. Seriously though, part of me likes external design, but part of me doesn't. The proportions are strange, it has a HUGE rear and front over hang that throws off the whole look, couldn't imagine this car doing a turbo boost as it's so low to the ground relative to the 82' trans am. This is very much a prop vehicle.
I just left a message to one of the videos of the Night Rider historians and I hope they pay attention and it might be a good idea to try to get in contact with them
I loved the original series, but this car has such beautiful lines. If I had the money, I'd restore it and make it roadworthy. I saw your earlier videos of when it was just sitting, and it actually looks pretty good now in comparison. Good luck with the sale. If I hit the lotto, you'll be hearing from me lol
Hello Bob, are you aware of an organization called Knight Rider Historians? They've made it their business to find artifacts and memorabilia from Knight Rider. They recently revealed that they found one of the original GMC trucks used for the Knight Rider semi. It's possible they'd be interested in KIFT.

I'm a fan of the original series and I've watched the TV movie. To be honest the TV movie wasn't very good. There are episodes from the TV show that are better than the TV movie. The 4000 doesn't really prove it's superiority to the 2000, when you look at the dash there are 4 buttons , tv set and it has virtual reality and it shoots ultra shocks at people. I think the movie would have done itself justice by having more stuff with the new car and having the original Trans AM in the movie getting destroyed by the villain and then replaced by the 4000 with Kitt inside. I also think a cameo with April, Bonnie and CJ would have greatly helped the show. Killing off Devon was kind of a waste. I didn't think the new villain was that great, A villain like Garth and his mother would have been better or a group of villains with the addition of KARR, Goliath with Garth at the helm with some of the tycoons or women villains would have been great. I would say the movie is about average. Quick Note; Michael Knight had a Trans AM in the original pilot of Knight of the Phoenix. I find it hard to believe he would be all excited over his 1957 Chevy the whole time when he had his Trans Am. It really should've been in the TV movie as homage to KITT.
I didn’t know this was used in Power Rangers Time Force as a fan of both Knight Rider & the Power Rangers this so cool. From I read this car was really a modified Dodge Stealth.
Any update? Did anyone buy it? I would've if I'd had the money to buy it and fix it up. I think it's badass. Not ugly at all to me. Just because some of you weren't fans of it or the TV movie doesn't mean everyone feels that way. I liked the TV movie. I didn't love it but I DID like it. I would've made some of the same changes others have mentioned but I also would've watched a TV show based on this if it had got picked up.
I totally agree. Nothing can beat the original KITT but I did like this one as well. I watched the TV movie quite a few times on VHS. I would have bought and restored it but I’m already too busy with another movie replica.
What a difference between the first video and now... I'm not referring to the car either. You were excited to get to work on restoring it, you were eager to try out the E-Brake and claimed you'd need new tires afterwards... Now you come along and take the absolute piss.... You want $20K for it! The guy that bought it at auction paid $10K for it 11 years ago! You change a fuel pump and replace the plexi glass with real glass and the price of a car you didn't even pay a penny for shoots up by $10K? The paint job is obviously rushed and even before it was painted you kept insisting on $20K!
@@kitt2000car the car has been sold a few times. at the original auction the cinema sold it for 20 grand or so, they were probably laughing all the way to the bank. then it sold again and then again to one of bobs customers who paid ten big ones. he probably gave the car away to bob as he was embarrassed that he'd spent so much on this bag of shit, this is an utter embarrassment to knight rider, even the gt500 was better than this crap. of course, this is all information passed on by bob so not sure how truthful it is. he apparently had an offer for 20 big ones a few months back which is why he thinks its worth 20. personally i dont think he had a single offer on this pile of excrement picked a random number out of the air and was using typical salesman tactics to try and get someone to buy it. in fact so many kr fans hate this that he would make more money offering a "smash a car" event at 20 bucks per sledge hammer blow. would be no shortage of fans turning up to smash this abomination
@@markatherstone5650 Well all I know it was sold on ebay 13 years ago. Sold for 3 grand. Buyer had it delivered to his home. Where the nose section was damaged by the tow truck driver. Owner shoved it in his barn for two years. Then put it on ebay again. Where it sold for 22 grand. That former owner sure hit the mother lode.
The neatest thing about the black car was that it was a real Trans Am with modified features. Why didn't they use a real Banshee and add a nose and black the tail lights?
I didn't do any research on this but probably because the banshee was a concept car it wasn't like you could go to a dealership and buy one. Probably only a few of them were made and all belonged to Pontiac.
The car is awful looking. The actual 1988 Pontiac Banshee IV is a masterpiece of late 80's cab-forward aero design (that's still stunning). This looks like a cheap kit-car (groan) knock-off, which is what it is. There is a whole industry around converting 3rd-gen F-body's into KITT replica's, because Glen Larson's production team took an already great looking car and made it even better. Hell, KITT STILL looks fantastic almost 40 years later. This car, in contrast, looked like crap in 1991, and it still looks like crap today. This basic problem is only made worse by the utterly terrible Knight Rider 2000 made-for-TV movie itself, which took everything we liked about the TV show (the look, feel, music, 3rd-gen F-body Firebird) and flushed it down the toilet. What the audience was left with was badly put-together slop that, despite bringing back the major characters, felt nothing like Knight Rider. It was just a grey, empty and bland experience, saddled with one of the most musically monotonous and awful themes ever recorded (and then used every 10 seconds in the movie). Seriously, how the hell do you NOT use one of the most beloved theme songs of all time (that, even in 1991, was already iconic). This turd is not worth the space in a museum, and it certainly isn't worth restoring. Take a few pictures, send it to the crusher and be done with it.
You need to check your info.Knight Rider 2000 was a TV movie made for and aired on NBC TV network .There was no theatrically released version of this unless it was released overseas.
He never said it was in the theater. He said it was on TV. But his statement did seem to infer that it was 'straight to cable' when it was it was always meant to be a made-for-TV movie.
Actually the Banshee was much more attractive and with perfect proportions. On the Diana 4000 the overhangs are way too longer. Obviously IMHO and with all due respect.
Completely agree. It would have been awesome if GM had let them use the Banshee (or at least it's exact likeness) in KR2000, if anything for the legacy. Michael Knight doesn't drive a Dodge. Even a stock Stealth looks way cooler than what they came up with here. As you pointed out, those overhangs look ridiculous.
