Screw Lock Shakey Heads Suck

I like the screw lock. I skin hook the side of the worm. The hook pops right out this way. Screw lock and elaztech don't get along.

hmmm i was taught different when using screw lock. I was told to have the hook coming through just a hair. Almost to the point you cant even see it. Never really have issues getting stuck or missing to many fish. Crazy to think everyone fishes so differently but thats why i love the sport. 🎣

Been using shakey heads for a while now and I loved the screw lock until you just explained why I’ve lost so many fish on them. Science!!!

When I was young I used to get PB and J in one jar. I think the brand was Stripes.

Love your videos! I have not tried your shakey head hooks but i have not found a hook designed like yours that i like.The screw lock seems to hold the worm better than all the hooks i have tried without a screw lock and i don't think i lose anymore fish than i would on the hooks without screw locks.

Tried them and love them so far. Super easy hooksets in the meat of the cheek. I noticed the elaztech slid and got out of the way like you said, which I prefer like on Texas rigs. Ned rig bite got stale but this got me into shakey heads

I probably hadn’t given this enough thought. I use a lot of screw locks. I’ve done good hooking up with big fish on them. However the 3 pounders and smaller I miss as many as I hook. I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the video

Clip the screw down to two turns works like a charm

The only issue I have with screw locks is that they don't play well with elaztech- you can make them work but it's a pain. I'd rather just not have the screw lock so I can rig whatever style plastic I want without the bother. I still use screw locks on my ewg shaky heads though- for magnum baits.

I've been using the VMC shakey heads that have a free dangling screwlock...they have been working really well for me but I will definitely pick some of these up to use when I throw the Bangsticks beacuse trying to use a screwlock on elaztech will make you curse the devil! lol

Today was my first day trying to fish a worm, I was using a bait caster and a shakey head with a screw lock . I had 8 bites and only 2 hook ups because the screw lock was getting in the way . This guy is on point I look forward to learning more from his videos

I agree but I still use the screw lock, I just have to change the way I set the hook when using one and its been working really well for me

Used the screw lock for years and never even thought about this. Makes sense though I feel like a shaky head for me is one bait that is spotty on the hook ups. Great video its an eye opener

Brian, I do not prefer a screw lock. I watched your video yesterday along with the Z-man video today and now a third video about the SMH bait? It's driving me crazy that I cannot order them as of yet BUT when I get the first opportunity to buy them then it will be mine. Wish I could get down there in S.C. this weekend. Love the videos and cannot wait for your next video on the type of plastic you recommend using on the SMH.

This makes sense and I can see where screw locks could be troublesome when setting the hook but if you poked the hook all the way through and skin hooked it back I don’t think you would have so much trouble with hooksets especially in comparison to leaving the point of the hook in the middle of the worm. Also when you’re just pulling it from the tail of the worm you’re not really taking into account the pressure the fish would be putting on the worm when they’re eating it so I think that’s one of the biggest helps to get the hook through the bait. Screw locks could definitely mess up your hook set ratio if the fish don’t want to commit.

Most shakey heads have a rotating screw lock now. Previously yes, this is a game changer. Hell, it still could be, I'll try it.

Going to be picking up some of these. What color was your SMH worm in your video for Zman? I like it. Going to get those as well!

I appreciate all your information and love your channel maybe I have just been lucky for the last several years but I have had no issues with hook ups on screw locks the one thing I do is cut them down to make more room for the bite. Ps. I will still buy yours and try them

I'll likely give your new hook a try...but I gotta be honest when I say that Pull test that you did around the 2:38 mark is very misleading. I watched it twice and you clearly pulled the Hula Stick down at an angle and turned the hook upward when testing your hook, which helped the hook pop through. Seconds later, you tested the screw lock hook and pulled the Trick Worm straight down (not at an angle) and did not turn the hook upward, which obviously prevented the screw lock hook from popping through the trick worm. Again, I'll probably give your hook a try, but not because of that biased demonstration.

I think this comes down to personal preference honestly. I know I can set all the way through my own homemade 8” straight tailed worms using the Dirty Jigs Shakeyhead and I typically throw it on my ML spinning outfit with 6-8 lb test Fluoro or mono/braid. I know from experience that I lose way more worms when I’m using a non-screwlock head. But like everything if it works for someone then they should keep doing it.

You pulled down on the screwlock. Down and back on yours. I'm not a huge fan of screwlocks either but I know if you only pull down on your design, it's going to have the same result as the screwlock.

Owner's shaky ultrahead is screwlock and I've never had an issue with hookup ratio. Worst part about them is the price.
