I bought a refurb core cutting kit @ 20% off. Opened the box in-store, and it hadn't been used. Probably someone didn't realise it's reverse thread and returned it. So long as I could inspect it first, I don't see an issue with buying refurbished. It's like a VAT free purchase. What's not to like? Top Tip: if you've never used a core cutting kit before, remember it gets tighter in use. Just make sure the threads are well greased before assembly, or you'll have an absolute mare taking it apart. My mistake was using light oil (not enough), and had to put the whole thing in a bench vice to dismantle.
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT Agreed. SF & Toolstation are pretty fair that way. Watch out though, as there are some exceptions. Stuff like some sanitary wear, sump pumps, etc. Stands to reason. The good thing is, they'll tell you in the item description at the point of sale if it's a non-returnable item. If it's clearly defective and you return it quickly enough, the worst I've been offered is a store credit.
I bought a re - furbished Black and Decker drill once from one of their stores. It was only for diy. It just didn't seem right from day one. It had been slightly used but not battered. I should have returned it but was very busy at the time. It drastically failed after 12 months. Bought a cheap Tesco one after that. Still runs today after 15 years. I suppose you can fall lucky and get one with a small fault that was never used and easily repaired. For example....a local diy store was skipping a jigsaw. Champion was the brand. Never used. Brand new in the box. Returned because not working. I took it home and opened it up. Straight away I found one of the wires on the trigger was not connected. Re connected it and it's still working after 18 years. That's the tipe of re - furb you want.
Great video! I understand that the point of the video is to evaluate the quality of the refurbished tool and determine if it's worth the purchase. However, for just £4.59 more you can buy the same grinder new from FFX, which comes with DeWalt's standard 3-year warranty and a 1-year free service plan. This plan includes free repairs if the tool breaks. It seems like a better deal to buy new. I personally dislike that we live in a throwaway society so I appreciate that Screwfix is trying to offer refurbished options. However, I think the refurbished tool should be much cheaper to make it a more attractive option. Anyway that's just my thoughts.

I had to buy a new Bosch 4.5” cordless one recently, the last one lasted 7 years and cut hundreds (maybe thousands) of concrete blocks, bricks, slates, metal bars etc. so not complaining.
Been on the refurb train for a while but never thought about it with tools. Didn’t know it was a thing with Screwfix. I always go refurb on new phones now as the savings are ridiculous
There was a refurb one with the case but decided it wasn't worth the extra, although maybe it would have save me snapping a load of metal cutting discs...damn it
Av bought a few refurbished batteries & apart from a green sticker on the bottom, u'd think they were brand new, a think a lot of them are ex-displays..well worth it..keep it up Screwfix 👍
With that 1yr guarantee, can't really go too wrong with a refurb. Plenty of companies and manufacturers have refurb outlets on eBay as well - my refurb'd Dyson and my Argos returned Xbox still going well after several years.
I buy refurb phones and have no issues with buying used PVR off ebay for a fraction of the price of new. Amazon warehouse can be good, bought some 3M sanding discs there, just box was squashed. But if you’re buying a refurbished Dewalt from screwfix then it’s only 1 year warranty vs manufacturers 3 years. Personal choice as to whether that’s important for the saving you’re getting

Amazon Warehouse is good for ‘seconds’ or returns. Especially if you don’t need a tool, but pick it up anyway because it’s a bargain. Years later, your future self will thank you.
@@AlexGnok I mainly buy Festool, when it’s the cheapest price. Those tools never hang around long. But, good point. I doubt any quality tool hang around for long on the warehouse page, though.
Refurb all the way, have several Refurb products they have all been basically as new, Plus Blue Light card if anyone has one gives you an extra 4% off the already discounted price👍
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT Most of the common DIY stores and builder merchants, along with some power tool brands as well as Halfords do between 5% and 10% some even more with BLC. Obviously there are hundreds if not thousands of discounts for other brands/stores/retailers unrelated to DIY, Some make you jump through hoops to get it by making you purchase a reloadable store card or have a minimum spend limit, others you just say you have a BLC and they discount, It's saved me a lot of money over the years 👍
I bought the titan battery strimmer and hedge clipper, supposedly refurb. Other than the box which had clearly been opened, the items were perfect ie brand new. I wonder if these are ex display and the box gets kicked around in the store until ready for sale as refurb.
To undo the locking nut thing, 2 of the holes fit an Allen key and the other 2 are just round. Good idea considering I can never find the special tool to undo them nuts usually
That is a good idea, not seen that before! I normally cable tie the spanner to the cord near the plug so it must be unplugged to undo the nut. I’m not particularly safety conscious and hardly use the spanner but I have a son who I want to be safe!
Cliffhanger episode. Unsubscribed 😠🤣 It makes me wonder if these second hand products are tested more than the actual products. I get NEW broken items all the time. I bought an Einhell circular saw a few years ago and it was rattling like crazy. I returned it because it felt like it was going to explode. That's an item that can injure people. Imagine how much they _don't_ test regular products.
