Script Fonts - Not all of them will work.
More down here ↓↓↓ Click SHOW MORE!
Script fonts can be used in V Carve Desktop, V Carve Pro, and Aspire, and they do add a bit of class to a project, but they’re not all appropriate for the job. In this video, I’ll show you a few reasons why some are bad choices to try to use in V Carve Pro.

Good tips ! I had faced this concers about fonts, I had some advice elsewhere in the internet that it would be better to write the text with your favorite font in your text editor, then take a screen shot of your text. After that you must vectorize only the portion containing the text and save the vector of it. It seems complicated bus, it works ! Thank you very much for your clear and full of knowleged tutorial !

Hi Mark, Thanks for the instructions on script Fonts. Although I haven't even got a machine yet, I'm trying to take it all in. Hoping to get the Acme T rods etc to maybe finally start assembly of the Gatton CNC. Then maybe, just maybe I can start applying some of yours and others tips. Thanks again Andrew W...aka AJW

Great info, thanks. Also, some of these fonts will in fact work. This would be based on size of font. A large sign say 2’x3’ with only a few words.

True! My primary focus in this video was in v-carving, but you're absolutely right - the size of the project makes a HUGE difference.

Hey Mark, thanks for the tips, b ut I have a comment. While it may not be appropriate for VCarving, I would say that these fonts, with a bit of cleanup to remove the areas where the vectors are separating, they could be used for engraving where the bit will follow the lines. I do engraving using a spring-loaded drag bit and VCarve Pro and the fonts could look very nice on a project so you may think twice before getting rid of the fonts in case you want to try your hand at engraving.

Thank you for the heads up! You're right - engraving and v-carving are two different animals. What might work well for one may not work for the other.

Mark I am trying to use some small fonts in my carvings. Is there a usable font in about 1 inch height or less? What is a way to get small lettering in the CNC and not going to laser tools? Any videos or pointing me in a direction would be helpful.

Carving smaller text is not all that different from carving larger text. All fonts are scalable to just about any size you wish. It's more about the bit you use to carve that font that anything else. The smaller your text is, the steeper the angle of the v-bit you'll need to use. What looks good using a 90° v-bit, may need a 60° or 30° v-bit when you reduce its size - possibly steeper. I've v-carved 3/4 inch tall text with a 60° v-bit that looked very nice. I've also wished I had a 30° v-bit a time or two, but I made it work.

@@MarkLindsayCNC Thanks for the reply. Do you recall a good font to try for 3/4" high and a 60 deg V-bit? I understand if you can't supply that.

I understand the problems with some script fonts, but I'm having a problem with Betty Noir font using a 90 degree 1.5 diameter tool. It carves it, but doesn't follow the contour like it displays. Not sure if this is just this font.
@MarkLindsayCNC

It may just be that font. Convert it to curves and clean up any stray nodes. That will help a lot.
@fgschill4766

Thanks Mark, I'll try that, but I think it's the font. If you notice the tips of the letters, especially the I or E are at an angle and I think that's a problem.
